Am I misunderstanding something or is 3% the same as a measly +3 Int? Are they calculated at different times to make the 3% better or is it really that bad? It can't really be as bad as 3 int.
If you have 0 Int then +3 Int = +3% damage increase. If you have 1000 Int then it takes +30 Int to result in a +3% damage increase.
I agree with Sexton. Set bonuses for Tal Rasha are fail. And no, we don't have to play the game to realize what a 3% bonus to one type of damage will do.
I hope no wizards were hoping to go with an arcane build
Sorry, but i don't think i get it... Unless you see the game is the "final unlock"? Because then i get it...
However, I don't see the launch as "unlocking"...
I love it! Until now I was concerned that we might end up farming Act 4 of Hell mode as end game because Bliz earlier stated that the best gear could drop from that act (although at a lower drop rate).
If it is done right then it will take quite a while to gear up for the next act(s) which will provide an exciting challenge until the next content is released.
I don't agree with everything that Blizzard does, but they are the best in the business when it comes to progression via gearing up. A lot of people say they don't like a "gear grind", but take away that system and you aren't left with anything that motivates me to play long term.
I don't see the problem with limiting group size to 4. Any more than that and you just end up waiting for people to pee, let out the dog, smoke, get a beer, or get yelled at by their mom.
Where in anything that Blizzard released did they say that the wizard class would be a glass cannon?
I can't find it anywhere in the current site nor do I remember any press release about the Wizard being a glass cannon. Is this glass cannon concept of a wizard simply you're interpretation of how a wizard should be?
If you're projecting Diablo 2 classes into Diablo 3 then this whole argument is pointless. The Barbarian and Wizard are making a come back but that in no way implies they should play the same way they did in D2.
In every piece of fiction, the wizard/mage/sorcerer class has its own interpretation of how the class should work. Even in 4th edition D&D, the Wizard is not a Striker, it is a controller class, meaning it does not do the most damage. Just because you have pre-conceived notions of a class does not make it so.
I'll admit that no one questioned this because in many fiction works/worlds, the wizard is portrayed as a glass cannon. But there are equally as many works where the Wizard is a melee fighter with spells or some variation.
The problem is that PvP and PvE don't play well together. It is best to focus on one of these areas. Trying to do PvP and PvE will be fail until AI's are human-like.
Wizard has good CC and good AoE, but it has the worst primary attack skills (IMO) and the lowest boss dps (i.e., single target sustained). Blizzard has recently stated that creatures in inferno will have higher resistance to CC so that might cause issues with the Wizard.
WD also has good CC thanks so pets, Wall of Zombies, Grasp of the Dead, etc. and insane DPS thanks to Soul Harvest.
I never had survivability issues with my Monk at low levels and he became pretty much indestructible once I got him some decent gear. I love his insane mobility in combat thanks to Dashing Strike.
The problem I have with this is that you don't even know how much damage the wizard does RIGHT NOW. The beta does not reflect their internal builds, and they don't make any particular effort to have things at all balanced for the released beta builds. The only information you have is that at some point, for some reason, someone at Blizzard wanted to know what the Wizard would be like at the damage levels you're seeing. Basing a whole "sky is falling" reaction with no real foundation to stand on just seems like a waste of time.
Based on that logic we should never provide feedback. Even if there is something imbalanced after release Blizzard's internal version (i.e., Patch #1) could have already fixed the problem so we shouldn't say anything, right?
I agree with OP. History of the wizard has been nerf, nerf, nerf. For a while it was about -30% per patch. Gave me a sense that Blizzard lost sight of what the class was all about.
Wizard should be pew, pew, BOOM. Now they're ting, ting, pew.
Against easy trash they are fine, but the wizard is pathetic (compared to the other classes) against bosses and elites.
My first reaction was surprise by how dated the graphics look when I launched beta for the first time. I instantly hit the ESC key to check my graphics settings (expecting them to be set to the rock-bottom-lowest-possible setting). I've played browser-based games that look better. Certainly not what I was expecting from a company with Blizzards resources, experience, and talent.
In regards to gameplay I was expecting more jumping around, dodging, and that sort of thing. Not sure if what I had in mind would have been better. Just different.
I'm still very excited for the game and playing the beta has made me even more excited. But, the game is pretty far off the mark in some areas from what I was expecting from Blizzard, especially considering how long the game has been in development.

But, nonetheless, the set bonuses disappoint.

If MF/GF are included with combat stats then you will either have leechers or moochers.
