I was already aware about Ivy Bridge and Keplar coming out real soon, so right now this was really just a mock up. I can almost guarentee you I won't have all the money by then so I will definitely be able to take them into consideration once they come out. And with the PSU my thinking was that once the VGA card (be it fermi or Keplar takes a price drop to far lower numbers I would like to put SLI on the table (hence the larger case and standard ATX motherbored). Sorry for not being clear about that. And since this build I want to actually keep more upgrade options on the table than my last build, I decided to go with the CPU cooler to dabble in low level CPU overclocking. I like to try something a little different each time as to learn more about the functionality. Really the overall goal here is to take just a pinch more dough than needed so that there is a lot more headroom in the long haul. And I'm not too worried about the sound. I always play with a headset. The wife can learn to deal with the jet engine going off every time I play a game! My last rig had an XFX 8800GTS in it and that thing gout LOUD. lol
After a couple days of pleading I think I may have finally convinced the wife to let me build my new desktop! My old one ended up getting trashed pretty bad by UPS and I've been wanting a reason to start all over anywho. I made a previous thread but it mostly consisted of what I wanted and not really what I needed. I haven't built a rig since 07' so I could definitely use all the help I can get!
This rig is going to be used heavily for gaming (D3, BF3, LoL, DOTA2, etc.) but I also plan on using it for general purpose/schoolwork. What I really want to know is how reasonable do you guys feel everything is? No bottlenecks? And does it looks like I'm getting my moneys worth out of it. Sadly I literally am starting from scratch, so I'm going to be picking some of these parts up paycheck by paycheck until I get to the core parts such as cpu, ram, mobo, vga card to reduce buyers remorse as much as possible.
My wife isn't too hardware savvy, and believes laptops are glorious. I plan to teach her otherwise. /bruhaha
As always, your guys help and constructive criticism is always appreciated!
I'm trying to find a way to bait my wife into D3. The best luck I have had getting her to play games more suited towards my interest was when she became addicted to Dragon Age: Origins. Although I think that was mostly because of that stupid Allistair character... I'm hoping the gameplay alone is enough to win her heart over. If it doesn't than oh well. She will be forced to play and work the RMAH if she is still unemployed by then!
I'll definitely keep my eye out. It's going to be a little while until I'm able to scrape together the 1k. Hopefully not too long though. Working on the Wal Mart Floor Crew doesn't help though.
I appreciate the help. I'll definitely take some of those parts into consideration. I've really been trying to check out the price vs performance of AMD and Intel right now. Last time I built a rig the conrow series had just came out, so it was definitely clear who to go with.
It's been quite a while since I've built my last rig (since 2007 actually) and I could really use some advice. I'm going to be starting from scratch besides the HDD since I have a spare 1TB from my last rig laying around somewhere. I'm aiming for something that will pretty much play D3 as maxed out as I can get it, and just a few others like SCII and maybe Skyrim, but with the potential to be future-proof for a bit. Besides the cost, my only worry is getting the wife to actually say "yes".

Tell my fiance, well in advance :), that I might be a bit busy 2-3 days after release and I hope she can understand that because the fucking wait is finally over.
Do what I did and let her have a girls night out. I told my wife I'd give her cash for O'Charlies with her mom and she can go to a movie or something. I planned on scheduling that day off work the second I hear a release date.
Go figure. Saw this one coming... The constant jerking us around is getting really old. Intentional or not. You can't keep messing with your fanbase like this or your going to receive nothing but resentment. It's getting very childish at this point.
Yea, I played a Zealadin in D2 and a Prot warrior in WoW. But for whatever reason the Witch Doctor really just seemed like a lot of fun to me. I guess I'm just up for something a tiny bit different.
Yea... Feels like I'm getting passed up constantly because my b.net has every Blizz game on it. So why worry about me needing to try it. In all seriousness though, I know that's not the reason, but it would be nice to actually be able to at least dabble in the game a little. That way I can get a feel of each class to make sure I know what I want to play.
