    The way I see it now is: the higher you get with one stat, obviously the more harsh the diminishing return gets. For that reason alone it is more effective to try to improve them in balance instead of favoring one over the other, so you don't bash your head against a brick wall (more DR=less effective reduction in return in proportion to stat invested) needlessly. Is that it, is it that simple? No hidden math? :P

    Edit: Seems I figured it out finally, simple enough. I used the EHP calculator that went up on the main site here, and if I input my stats it shows how much of an increase in EHP would one point of resistance/10 points of armor be. With the stats apart as they are it's clear that armor is a better investment for me right now with 0,13% EHP increase/10 points and resistance giving 0,09% EHP at the moment. For example if I enable Keen Eye and armor goes up to 8424, it shows an EHP increase both for armor and res at... 0,09%, tadam! Meaning that if they're close it doesn't matter much which you boost, but if they're apart investing into the lower one will give you more EHP increase. Problem solved.

    Everyone should check out this new tool btw., it's awesome :) You can easily see what stat and what skills give you most survivability, and there's an item compare tool too.

    Note that the info tab displays relative resistance against mobs of your level (60) while Inferno mobs go from 61 to 63.

    Also, high resistances allows you to survive stuff long enough to move out, not sit your ass on desecration/plague/molten and go for a coffee.

    Sure, of course I get hit for more from higher level mobs, but just for the purpose of math calculation it shouldn't be a problem if we just assume what the character tab shows. I'm just interested in to what extent is it worth it to bring the reductions close together and for ex. invest into damage instead if we have an excess of one reduction stat.

    I believe it should be like 1 resist for 10 armor. With that said, what is your armor when your keen eye is up? Which should be most of the time you enter battle and take hits.

    That's what I read as well and why I want my armor to be around 8k with 800 resistance but don't know if it's feasible to get it up this high. I normally use Foresight instead of Keen Eye, but if I pop it the armor gets up to... 8058 :o Is that the perfect situation? Should i sacrifice some Damage for this?

    maybe you can find better items without any str or int first. lol. just a thought. and an offtopic comment too. lol. what is your dmg reduction % for both resist and armor btw?

    Well, I could find them, but it doesn't mean I could afford them ;/ I don't really have that much to be honest, and only on items with other more useful stats. It's not like Str and Int give no benefit too.
    Right now my Damage Reduction from Armor is at 65,18%, from Resistance at 73,06%. Armor gets up to 72,87% with Keen Eye. However, with Armor increased from Keen Eye by roughly 2,5k I didn't notice any increase in Reduction from Resistances. Which kind of makes the whole theory of "bring the stats close together so they negate their diminishing returns" obsolete. What gives?

    Edit: Seems like I totally fail at math but whatever. How are the damage reductions applied, one on top of the other? For example if I get hit for 10k, and have a 60% reduction from armor and 80% reduction from resistance, is it 10000*0,4*0,2=800 damage got through? If that were so and we look at the "bring them close" theory: let's assume I have 70% reduction from both armor and resistance which would equal 10000*0,3*0,3=900 which is higher than the previous one with stats more widely apart. Obviously there are diminishing returns that I don't take into account here which mean I'd have to invest tons into resistance to reach 80% reduction making it more worth it to aim for 70/70% instead?

    Hi there,
    I read threads about diminishing returns of armor, resistances, and the effect they have on each other. The conclusion was that they should be kept close together so their diminishing returns negate each other.
    Here is a screen of my stats:

    As you can see I have 814 resistances and 5616 armor. Obviously I lack some dps, but with Foresight+Blazing Wrath it gets up to almost 15k, 24k with Faith in the Light, and we have Overawe on top of all that so it's not so bad.
    The question is: do I have too much resistance? Given that balancing it with armor is really important, how much armor can I realistically expect to have with a monk, how much higher can it get? Or should I just drop some resistance up to ~560 level and get more damage instead?

    A build focusing on fast attacks and some AoE. Some movement thrown in as well. Love the possibilities the runes give to customize your skills, I honestly don't get people who say there's no customization in the game.

    Finishing Japanese Studies in a year, on a scholarship in Tokyo right now and can't wait to get back home, lol :P After that aiming for gaming industry, quality assurance in general and translation/translation quality analyst in particular. I even applied to Blizz once but failed, rotfl ;) Gonna try again in a few years once I get more experience in the industry.

    Let's forget about the law, time zones, customer service, regulations, stipulations, fanboys and what not.

    Good service is about making the customer happy. Whatever it takes, unless it hurts the company a lot. Sometimes it's even worth it to hurt the business a little bit if the end result is gonna be a satisfied customer who feels he's been taken care of well in a difficult situation. That's how you earn and keep your loyal customers. At this point when a customer comes raging to customer service that he got screwed over, unless it was technically impossible (which i don't believe they proved it was), they have an obligation to make the customer happy whatever the means, screw the regulations. You're the employee, you pick up the phone, call the right guys and do everything you can.

    Unless you don't care.
