I have to admit all of my characters patch 13 were all decked out in nothing but blacksmith gear no drops at all besides rings i was kinda pissed to say the least

This was my feeling as well. Just crafted the best gear from Blacksmith and was able to obliterate anything in my path. Before BS gear, the obliteration took a little longer.

haha, yes. Me too. And Leoric is actually... well at least fun because you can die.

Right? To get the "get leoric to kill 15 of his own skeletons" last patch i just went afk while he wailed on me. Now? Not so much.

posted a message on Rune effects in the future
In my opinion, they're just going to add a + Rune Level affix to weapons and armor. So basically you'll only get increased rune effects in Inferno or something where the + Rune Level items drop.

I believe they already have added something like this acctually. I know theres a +rune effect like affix but I dont know what it does exactly. Ive been avoiding datamined info as much as possible.

posted a message on [Official] Release Date Speculation Thread
when they do announce the date it will be 4-6 weeks to live, they will want it out fast, mots of the retailers are setup and waiing for blizz to say, some even have copies of D3 in their main offices

This is what Im hoping for. Im hoping the hype (or flaming, no such thing as bad press :P) from the pro-longed beta and delays is enough to shorten the usual 2 month window of (HEY EVERYONE! D3 RELEASE DATE IS X!) so the word gets to the people who dont pay attention to Diablo 3, faster. Im still hoping for a mid april release.

    EDIT: Accidently a few words

What people want isnt the ability to customize the character, it's the ability to make an unviable character, so they can feel better about themselves when they see someone having made that character. This is the whole MoP talent system argument all over again.

I agree with this. Most of the people who got into diablo when it first came out were apart of the now archiac age of gaming that was based off adding false longevitity to the game by adding tedious grinds or a lives system with no saves so you'd have to start all over (so you'd give the machine another coin) to continue. It basically came down to memorization, and since you had lives, you saw the higher levels less so you didn't have as much time to memorize them.

Also from this era came the idea of punishing the player for playing. Diablo 2 is/was guilty of this, before respecs, you had to reroll, throwing away hours and hours of time when you found out in hell going straight orb sorc was not a good idea. Some people enjoyed this, some didn't. I think right now we're in the transition of gaming paradigms, moving from punishing the player from playing, to a (sometimes shallow) but fun experience, where you are tested on your ability to play, not google. Diablo 3 will definitely have depth, but not as much as diablo 2, even though diablo 2s depth wasn't meaningful, just tedious or confusing.

I think because we're in the middle of a gaming paradigm shift, lots of players from the now archiac age are uncomfortable with the direction gaming is going, claiming new games are just "hand holding", "catering to casuals/retards". This might be true, but I think this is also a case of these people not being the target market anymore, and they're getting old. No game ever will be as fun as diablo 2 when I played it when I was 14. I dont care what you say, nothing compares. A lot of other players feel this too, games were awesome, new and exciting when they were young, but now they've seen the patterns and tricks that used to leave them wide eyed before. This is why people have been saying WoW has been going downhill since the first expansion. They have to give up the idea that the way they played games growing up isnt coming back and hand it off to the people making games for kids now, who will probably have a blast playing diablo 3, and then whine that diablo 4 punishes the player too much.

    My two cents anyway.

I completely understand what you are saying, but instead of illusion of choice, isn't it better to build systems that provide real choice that actually effects playstyle in meaningful ways, and cut out systems that can't deliver that?

In a way, I think it's sad that they cut stat assignment because it seems like a shortcut. They should have been able to balance it and make it meaningful instead. But given the choice between a broken stat system, and no stat system, I'd prefer no stats.

Warning: Massive off topic post incoming.

Stat choice is still there, its just been "transferred" to gear. Having blizzard auto assign your stat points is actually better because now the devs can control how much stats, more importantly, health you have at end game. Why is this good? Because now they can blance more precisely and make monsters more challenging because they know what at your stats will look like roughly at end game. This is opposed to diablo 2 where you could outlevel content, and devs had no idea how much health you would have so they made all the monsters just hit like trucks and to force you to pick up defensive stats or die.

Its also good that its been moved to gear because with all the random properties put on gear, it will encourage trading to get the right stats you want, or encourage gold sinks if you are relying on the BS for your gear. The trading and gold sinks combined make gold an actually valuable currency. With the combinations of gems and sockets, you have, like 500ish+ total stat points to work with to customize your characters stats in a way you want. Make no mistake, all stats will be valuable, your primary stat and health will be the most valuable for you, but resists and armor or dodge will also be important, which do you want to stack? Which will you rely on gear for?

tl;dr: Stat system is still here, but just different.

+300 HP/Hit... and now use Way of the Hundred Fists runed with Hands of Lightning... thats 10 Hits during the 2nd strike. So you get 10*300HP = 3000 HP for every 2nd stage WofHF... that sounds pretty decent for a skill that you can spam...

If we have 60k life, that might be one monsters hit worth of health

Sure, but I would make sure that my friends all agree that when shit hits the fan, its every man for himself. This way the potential of blaming each other for deaths goes down.

posted a message on Diablo 3 Beta - short review
Ive also been blown away by beta, it makes me very excited for release. Characters are fun and unique, the skill runes are fun, the destrucibles that blow up when you use AoE make you feel awesome, lots of detail and polish, love the random dungeons/quests. I havent come close to dying but I guess thats expected of the first 13 levels. The UI doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would, the only thing I dislike is its hard to swap two skills on your bar.

    This game will be awesome.
