Yeah, I can kinda see what you were going for with the shoulder/shirt thing now that you mention it, but it's still not all there. Try to strike this pose yourself. Pulling your shoulder so close into your side and twisting out your fore-arm.. it's doable, but uncomfortable, and doesn't really represent a very powerful/intimidating stance I'd expect from a sorceress.
But psshh, don't worry about undertones. I really do like this, I just tend to be overly critical.
Tried it. Was indeed uncomfortable. Now I know what it's like to have scoliosis.
Overly critical can be good :P, I totally respect your feedback and criticism.
Pose/anatomy is a bit stiff and unnatural ( her right arm in particular). The lighting is pretty cool, but seems a bit odd in places, and lacks some cast shadows that would surely exist.
The background elements seem a bit thrown in. The ground behind her and the stairs(?) she's on appear to be in a different perspective. Can't blame you for not plotting out your perspective too much when there are only barely two scenery elements, but still.
I also don't think the nipple adds anything. It just seems like another thing thrown in to appeal to teen horniness or something without much of a real purpose. There's a time and a place for a bare tit, but this just looks like a really poorly designed blouse. To each his own, on that, though. It's just something I'm a little tired of seeing (I'm not tired of nipples, just tired of nipples being shoved into fantasy art for no good reason).
I like how you've rendered the lightning though, simple but effective.
Thanks for the constructive criticism!(even though I sense quite a harsh undertone :O) This was drawn in the early hours of a sleepless morning but we all know that's no excuse :P.
The lighting isn't really done for realistic effect, I just wanted much of the sorc. to be seen. (I had sitcoms in mind ;))
As for the right arm it was supposed to look as if her shoulder was pulled back which would raise the blouse exposing the nipple, but my fault if it didn't translate that way.. still learning :D.
Yea, Corel Painter is awesome! *misses high five*
Painter lags a bit of a few of the brushes for me.. but the pay-off is worth the wait!
Posterized it set on 2 layers, so it came out pretty bright.
Yea.. it's not bad I'm not jumping over the moon though.
