I think a few of you missed the point entirely. I don't want the Assassin back exactly how it was. I'm saying that a bow user would be a good fit for the Assassin archetype. Rather than having something like a Ranger or Hunter, which I find boring, they could do a 'professional killer' class that uses bows, blades, poison and stealth techniques. The only adequate name for a class like that would be Assassin.
For all intents and purposes. To hell with dinky Forest Rangers who live in trees and command woodpeckers. Any Ranger or Hunter character would be much better off with an art style more in line with the Assassin, because if you think about it, a bow is the logical Assassin weapon. It's the closest thing you can get in Diablo to being a sniper.
In fact, that would be an OK name for the class.
Sniper- except brings to mind the rifle
Marksman- I like this name but there's a woman as well
Hunter- still too close to Bird Catcher
Sharpshooter- meh
I can't think of a good one...Assassin makes the most sense. You can keep some of the gadget-themed skills and the poison skills from D2, and then remake the character. It's a bow expert who can also use small blades effectively, and with good poison skills.
Kind of like a hunter but without the nature theme, so you could still throw traps in there, no summons, just all kinds of trick arrows, poison skills for arrows and other weapons, some character-themed support skills like the W. Doctor's spirit tree,etc.
