    From the DSF Bug list
Scrolls of spells that you cannot read books of (i.e. Infravision) will be cast at the spell level of whatever book-read spell you have selected in your speedbook, when the scroll is cast from the belt. A level 15 Infravision can last a long time.

I believe that scrolls from spells you can read books from are cast at your current spell level.

Do you use save/load to discover the contents of Goat Shrines/Cauldrons in Single Player?
    - Once again, I don't have a problem with that.

Yeah, I'm fine with that. I hate those shrines that take away your mana permanently. They're so bad that I end up never hitting goat shrines and cauldrons. I bet the game designers didn't intend for that to happen.

The only thing I can think of is this section from Jarulf's Guide:

"In single player (but not in multi player) the game keeps track of what unique items have been dropped (or recreated at game start in a characters inventory) and if the same item is determined to be dropped again (or regenerated at game start), the next one with the same qlvl or the one with the next lower qlvl will instead be dropped. Thus in single player you can actually find those "unfindable" unique items but you must find at last one other unique item of the same base item first. The game will forget the list of found unique items when you restart a new game however. The list is saved when you save the game in single player but not restored upon load except for those items you have equipped."

However, I don't think this works for quests. And besides, the Veil of Steel has its own base item, it is does not share a base item(crown) with the Royal Circlet..

My guess is that you killed a monster near Lachdanan and it dropped the Royal Circlet.

Thanks Ell_man but I don't really understand how this works. If I start a new game, won't the first elixir have gone with the old game?

You can choose the option to start a new game with a character and you'll keep everything in your inventory but in the new game everything on the ground will be lost and all the dungeon levels will be reset and randomized. The entrances to the catacombs, caves, hell will also be reset until you clear down to them.

So if you decide you want to start a new game, say to play NM in single player using this trick, you can keep the elixir in your inventory when you start a new game. Hopefully, you'll get the quest again in your NM game and once you finish the quest, consume both elixirs for a total of +6 all stats.

Here's what Jarulf's Guide says about the quest: "After Adria tells you that you can keep it you should drink (use) it immediately. Don't save the game before drinking it. It will give you +3 to all attributes. If you don't use it right away you will not be able to use it at all. However, I have been told that if you get hold of a second spectral elixir, you can use both at once."

I'm pretty sure that if you decide to play a new game, and in that new game you get the black mushroom quest again, you'll be able to use both elixirs at once and you'll receive full benefits from both.
