Although I voted for 8, because of the reported individual loot system. This would eliminate the issue of the 'fastest-finger-first' grab for items with an endgame kill that was evident in D2. That was probably my biggest problem with 8 players in D2.
4 players would be lonely indeed, but I can see a group of 4 players becoming more friendly in one game than a group of 8 might.
