Whoa, Nekro.... you sure you have the right person quoted? I'm in agreement with you.

But... if the Barbarians of lore were based off of the old Vikings... and the old Vikings had female warriors...
Essentially, what it boils down to is the fact that the barbarians of Harrogath are trained warriors. They are fearsome, menacing, and a destructive force to be feared. Blizzard, I feel, did an excellent job in making the Female Barbarian look the part. It makes sense when you look at it from the point of view of Sanctuary, and not the point of view of Earth.

Feb 17, 2010OathofChaos posted a message on The Female Manbeast [Barb]And as I responded on that same thread:Posted in: News
Fantasy-lore is loosely based off of reality yes? There were female Vikings (what the original barbarians // berserkers were based off of). Do not forget the Forgotten Realms series that also speaks of female barbarians... females must also learn how to fight like the men, and were expected to hunt if they were not child-laden. -
Dec 11, 2009OathofChaos posted a message on The Wait is Over -- PTR Patch 1.13Posted in: NewsQuote from "Lydeck" »Oh come on. People are pissed about what's on the patch, they're pissed about how much Blizzard built it up about it being so good. It's really pathetic it took them 8 months + to create this.
And yet... it really was only about two and a half months of work because of the Warcraft III security breach.... oh wait... lets throw out that because it doesn't fit your point. -
Dec 11, 2009OathofChaos posted a message on The Wait is Over -- PTR Patch 1.131) Blizzard already made its money off of Diablo II and LoD many years ago. This is not a scheme to get more people playing it again. They already make more than enough money from WoW. Case in point: Blizzcon.Posted in: News
2) To satisfy the player-base that has consistently questioned the release of the 1.13 patch, despite the numerous posts by the Community Manager on the reason for the delays, Blizzard opened the beta for 1.13 with what they've accomplished thus far.
3) This amalgamation of random fixes was completed by a small development team that has tirelessly worked on content spanning two legacy games. This development team could be used elsewhere, but Blizzard has its fans in mind, and thusly has worked to repolish the Diablo II game for its fanbase.
4) In this author's honest opinion, instead of complaining on how much Blizzard sucks, one should be thankful that Blizzard has not forgotten its Legacy titles like so many other companies have before it, and anticipate the upcoming changes that will inevitably occur. These initial changes are just the stepping stones for what will come. -
Dec 11, 2009OathofChaos posted a message on The Wait is Over -- PTR Patch 1.13Posted in: NewsQuote from "Pryda" »Actually I see the big picture now. It was all business. Patch 1.13 wasn't made because they wanted to do something nice for the fans. Blizzard realized that ppl were getting more interested in D2 again, while waiting for D3 and they realized that A LOT of people just needed a little push to go out and buy the game again. So they decided to announce a patch that would essentially be a ladder reset to get the people hooked for a while. Good work, Blizzard, you did it again! /bow
lolwut?
Are you bloody serious? Go out and buy the game again? Blizzard made its money off of Diablo II a long time ago. They make their money off of WoW now, and oh boy do they. They don't care if you spend $20-$40 USD on the game.... they want to appease the fans.
*flameshield*
So they did what you whiners made them... release the beta early. Now, you ungrateful wretches are complaining that the patch isn't good enough? Their small dev team has been tirelessly working on Warcraft III's security issues... issues that supersede Diablo's content and balancing issues. You screamed, you whined, you complained, and Blizzard caved and gave you a beta for what they have thus far.... and what do you do?
You scream, whine, and complain. You outta be ashamed of yourselves.

Dec 11, 2009OathofChaos posted a message on The Wait is Over -- PTR Patch 1.13I think you're missing the point entirely. They released the patch because too many people were getting anxious to play DII, and started calling Blizzard out on it, even though they've been working on the WCIII hotfixes to make the game more stable and safe.Posted in: News
Not only that, they have a small dev team working on this... and they just released what they've gotten done so far with the insinuation that more will come.
So, before freaking out and bashing Blizzard... be thankful that you have some updates rather than none. -
Dec 11, 2009OathofChaos posted a message on The Wait is Over -- PTR Patch 1.13Posted in: NewsQuote from "maximusje" »Oh and it is funny that you must have v1.12 in order to see the Beta Realm (just something I noticed).
It's not that funny. In order to see // participate in the Beta, the client software must be updated to reflect the changes of the previous patches that the Beta utilizes. Otherwise incorrect information would be transferred, and your game would crash.
Just sayin'
Quote from "Don_guillotine" »However, didn't those wc3 patches just have some very urgent and specific bug fixes rather than be any sort of real patches?
^^^^ This.
They weren't game balancing patches, nor were they game enhancing. They were (mostly) bug fixes // hotfixes. -
Dec 11, 2009OathofChaos posted a message on The Wait is Over -- PTR Patch 1.13It just means that this is to keep people placated while they work on the meat of what this patch is about. It's something. People need something, and I'm happy with what we've gotten so far. I know there are a lot of bugs and fixes.Posted in: News
Seriously, people are taking this for granted. Blizzard is updating legacy content... that's like Westwood (EA) updating Command and Conquer Red Alert 2. We should be honored that Blizzard is thinking of us and wants to make an outdated game still fun after all of these years.
Don't bite the hand that feeds. -
Dec 11, 2009OathofChaos posted a message on The Wait is Over -- PTR Patch 1.13Posted in: NewsQuote from "vladdracul" »It's public testing the changes they made, they never said they were gonna add anything else. They are testing these changes to make sure they are good then that is it. This is the patch. Just checking to see if it all works. I doubt they will make any major changes to what is already done.
Actually, that is false. Baishok has already implied that these are just preliminary changes to test. This was to satisfy everyone who has complained in one form or fashion about the length of time between the initial post about 1.13 and now. -
Oct 7, 2009OathofChaos posted a message on Is It Too Early to Pre-Order?By pre-ordering the game, you supposedly have a guaranteed copy when the game comes out. At Gamestop (I used to be an employee there a few years ago), after a certain point in time, usually one month before the game comes out, the stores are allocated their pre-order count (both regular and CE) plus about 10, give or take. When the game comes in, usually it's held for you for up to 48 hours after the release of the game.Posted in: News
*shrug* I'd rather just buy it from Amazon.com and have it overnighted to my house. It seems easier that way, albeit a bit more expensive. At least this way I don't have to worry if some douchebag behind the counter sold my copy of the CE (which has happened), or if the store has any copies left after the midnight madness.
That being said, if they do have a midnight release party, I might get the CE and camp out from 5PM to guarantee I get my copy at midnight. It all depends on what's going on in a year and a half.
Note: I will be taking a week's worth of vacation to fully enjoy Diablo III when it comes out. -
Oct 7, 2009OathofChaos posted a message on Is It Too Early to Pre-Order?Posted in: NewsQuote from "mockery" »Personally, I wouldn't pre-order it from anywhere but Blizzard right now just to be safe. That said, I'll probably wait until the game has an official release date because (like OathofChaos) I'll want to buy whatever Collector's Edition they inevitably come out with, rather than just the normal game itself. Can't wait to see what kind of goodies they pack into it!
Amen to that! I <3 Goodies! -
Oct 7, 2009OathofChaos posted a message on Is It Too Early to Pre-Order?Honestly, I'd purchase it either way. I've waited far too long for this game. I will definitely give it at least one play through if it's bad (or several thousand if it isn't).Posted in: News
I also know that I'll be getting the collector's edition (probably through Amazon or pre-ordering it through the local game retailer) as long as it has the soundtrack and/or artwork. I'm a slave for good music in a soundtrack. (( I picked up the C&C Red Alert 3, Demigod, and WoW Wrath of the Lich King CE's for the soundtrack. )) -
Sep 22, 2009OathofChaos posted a message on Echoes of War - The Blizzard Music CompilationHey Seraph, do you think there would be any way for us to get a specialized picture for the Legendary Edition to use as the "Cover" for any MP3 players out there? For example, something to add as Album Art that's not just the photo of the discs and artwork (which is still amazing)Posted in: News
I picked up the Legendary Edition upon release and I luffs it. -
Aug 23, 2009OathofChaos posted a message on Has the Tetris Inventory and Magic Find Returned?Posted in: NewsQuote from "Seth" »As far as I can see, you will still need to arrange your items in a grid, items will take a variation of shapes from one to two slots, and you will have to fit them in to it. It's the same thing, just item sizes have been reduced.
But that is better than the original version though, yes? Having X by 3 and non-stacking items made the inventory system more of a pain than it was really worth. Here you have a better system. The largest item we've seen thus far is 2x2, and smaller items like gems stack. Between that and a larger inventory space, I think we're getting the best of both worlds. -
Aug 22, 2009OathofChaos posted a message on New Diablo 3 Character Class: The Monk! We've seen a nice combination of archetypes thus far.Posted in: News
Barbarian - Pure Melee with Tank elements(with some ranged to keep it slightly balanced)
Witch Doctor - Summoner // Debuffer
Wizard - Pure Caster
And finally,
Monk - Speed Class // Sacrificing defense for speed & power
The thing all of these classes have in common is that they are great at both point blank and ranged distances. Because of that, I have my doubts as to if we'll be seeing a pure range class. We've seen from the gameplay videos that each class thus far can hold their own in an all out brawl. To be honest, my vote is that the fifth class could be any man's (or woman's) guess.
If I had to guess? I'd guess something a bit more borderline neutrality. Something that doesn't stray too far from evil or good. Not the NEcromancer, but something dark in nature. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Seriously, if someone doesn't like something, play a game like this, don't buy Diablo 3. If you buy the game, Blizzard will have your money, and believe they did a good job because they accomplished their goal, for you to buy it. If you don't buy the game, you're saying, "I don't like this product, or the decisions that the staff made regarding the product, and therefore I will not further the business that I do not agree with." That's how you speak with your wallet.

I, for one, love the art direction, the skill types, the character archetypes, and (dare I say it) even the integration of Battle.net. If it's "Not enough like Diablo II", people should speak with their wallet, and play Diablo II (or its, in my honest opinion, cheap knockoffs) and not Diablo III.

That being said, that's why I like Sets. They cause the player to think. Item A is more powerful than Item B, but with this set bonus it's better... but I have to equip these crappy boots that don't help me much
That, and I also would like to maintain the diversity of types of items. Normal (White), Magic (Blue), Rare (Yellow), Set (Green), Unique (Gold). Maybe throw in a designation to the vendor fodder items (Grey) and go that way.
Speaking of colors....

I don't know how I feel about the Diablo color scheme. Didn't they say something about the colors reflecting that similar to WoW's? Epics being Purple (or at least Uniques being called Epics). I.... don't know how I really feel about it. I like the naming convention from WoW's item database (Worthless, Normal, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary), but I enjoy the color scheme from Diablo (being that there's a true differentiation in colors because Yellow and Gold are too damned close, and that there is a seperate color for Sets). I don't think this'll solve itself overnight in my head.

Here you go, there's a basic tutorial on how to use the GUI to affect Wine. Good luck.

I hate to say it, but the spammers are smart in a business sense. Go for quantity. For every 10,000 people they reach, at least one person will buy something, according to the law of averages.
Either way, the only way to catch botters is to run a script from their side, to watch for specific actions, verify said actions, then have a human look into it. That'd be the only way to nab botters.

Edit: After taking about 100 different photos since I last updated this thing, I have come to the conclusion that I cannot take a good pictures, because these are semi-gloss, and we don't have good lighting in my flat. Oh well. Tomorrow during the day I'll try again.

All of the changes are really good (and much needed). From what I'm seeing, nobody's getting nerfed, everybody's just having to re-learn their class.
I have high expectations for Cataclysm, and high hopes. Mayhaps the game will no longer be terribly easy.

2) First game I played was Solaris for the Atari 3600, and Guerrilla Warfare for the NES
3) Currently? WoW, Dead Rising 2, Modern Warfare 2, Bad Company 2, Halo: Reach, Civilization V, and Starcraft 2.
