I'd say the list is pretty heavily biased, and the writer didn't really use consistent logic throughout his choices. Phoenix Wright, after the "WTF?" has worn off, is not at all a good game. Memorable for the WTF and quite amusing, but not top-50 by a long shot.

As far as the Halo debate goes, who says a game needs to be revolutionary, or even creative to be great? -not to say that Halo isn't revolutionary/creative. Arguing about creativity when it comes to games is pretty pointless anyway. There's almost always a book or movie that's done it in some way before a game has, and you can over-simplify any game to the point it looks like a copy-paste job on the part of the writers. Arguing about what's creative and what isn't is pointless. Judge the game by its own merits.

The story of the Halo universe is definately above average. Much better than, "You're a reporter (no, not an army scout) sent to investigate an island occupied by military forces. They capture you and use you for genetic experiments. You're pissed." or "Bad guy took used time machine to take over world. You use other time machine to fix it."
No one saw the flood coming till that fateful level. You didn't expect the end-game superweapon to destroy, not save you. Several plot twists While there were some cliches (AI serves itself, etc.) and such, it was overall very good and by far better than the linear stories of most other games.

Then gameplay. This is where Halo hit home. It perfected console FPS. Did it make any major, revolutionary changes? No. But it made so many small improvements it didn't need to. Instead of a bunch of half-baked features with a new, half-baked feature, Bungie did its best to perfect the pre-existing elements of a shooter. The game's multiplayer popularity should speak for itself on this one.

EVERY single time I see one of these "greatest games" lists, Halo gets mentioned in the discussion boards. Almost everyone has heard of Halo, even non-gamers. The franchise has always been extraordinarily popular throughout it's 8 year life, and has had several record-breaking sales figures. Among the millions of players on xbox live, Halo 2/3 haven't ever dropped out of the top 10 most played XBL games. Halo, the game that started it all, is most definately "great."

I desperately hope he was only refering to the demo when this was said. Skill/Stat planning was one of the largest and most fun parts of Diablo 2. Without it... It's just not Diablo.
