One of the things I loved from Diablo games was the sense of ownership I got from all of my rare loot, I mean that after looting, hunting for gems and collecting everything Ï needed I would be able to craft one awesome piece of equipment, and then having a great feeling of achievement.
I would like that in Diablo III this customization of Items to be deepened, to see a more expanded crafting system that allows me to customize every aspect of the item, like how it looks, what type of benefits it gets, with also the ability to brand the Items with it's creator name.
With that item trading could get a different kick out of it, I can imagine seeing an item that I made and being able to say "hey I made that", also if there were any kind of player corpse looting, the champion of a duel would get something more as a trophy, a piece of equipment with his adversary name on it.

Aug 14, 2008Gainne posted a message on Kingdom of Shadow - Lost City of UrehI loved the book too! and all its characters, now I'm trying to get a copy of Moon of the Spider as the events in that book happen after those of Kingdom of Shadow.Posted in: News
One thing tho..., I don't want to be too spoilerific, but all of us who already read the book know what happens to Ureh in the end, so in which way are we getting Ureh in Diablo III? Maybe this is a hit to time travel in D3, are we going back in time to see "The Light among Lights" in its former glory? Or just as a ruined city in the middle of a Jungle? Although in the pic it does not look ruined at all.
Meh I want answers! -

I actually went to read the book when it was suggested from the cinematic that this was Ureh, and gotta say I'm glad I read it, awesome book.
And now having Ureh in Diablo III we can be sure we will see some returning characters from Kingdom of Shadow, more so after reading this:
Quote from Jay Wilson »
"We also tried to focus a little more on bringing characters back, and not just from Diablo II but from Diablo I," he said. "We feel like a lot of the focus is on Diablo II but Diablo Istarted it all and has a lot of really good stuff on the gameplay side and on the character side. So people can expect to see characters from Diablo I, more characters from Diablo II, and characters from some of the books. We're definitely going to bring a few of them in."
I'm more than sure that we are going to see Zayl as an NPC with Humbart (Hopefully! :D) and it would be nice to have Kentril as well. -

We have just recieved the press schedule for WWI and there is one interesting thing to note. After the main presenation which runs between 11:45 and 1PM, Blizzard will be holding a press conference. This raises the question, why hold a press conference straight after unless something rather psecial was going to be announced. We already know about StarCraft 2 and Wrath of the Lich King, and we know there will be developer Q&A sessions with those devs throughout the day. Could we be on the verge of a Diablo 3 announcement?
Next week four of us will be at the event reporting directly back to you here at Diabloii.Net so if something rather special does emerge, you'll be getting the scoop right here
sound promising even if i do say so myself
My heart just gave a jump, please Blizzard...OHHHHHH please don´t break it again :(.
The 28th will be a really slow day to come -

I can see it as a bad thing in the way that you don´t actually own anything, you do have the rights to play the game but physically you don't have anything like booklets box art etc...Quote from "grotesquity" »How is it a bad thing?
But for those who want the commodity of getting the game in a couple of minutes from home without moving a finger it is a good thing, I guess it's a matter of choice -

I'm telling you people it's a conspiracy from Blizzard, they're just playing with our minds to make us go crazy before bludgeoning us with something even crazier. There's apparently no reason for them to announce D3, but still every evidence are pointing in that direction.
And the fact that they have 3 main hall rooms this year to "to accommodate" the fans, if one is for WoW WotLK, the other for SC2 the last one has got to be for Diablo III -
Jun 16, 2008Gainne posted a message on XFire Slips WWI Game Announcement?Posted in: NewsQuote from "ZMDI" »I'd say your wrong. I'd say that's a procedure for assuring that they're still legally using the Diablo trademark which must be filed 6 months from the notice of allowance. The fact that it's a *second* extension only means that there was another one before that, extending the trademark for more 6 months, and it's not necessarily related to Diablo 2 + expansion. Plus, that's a request from May 2007 so it doesn't prove much, other than blizzard not wanting anyone else using the name diablo.
Uhhm well you could be right I don´t understand most of this legal stuff, one thing tho´ the notice for the request is dated May 2007 but the date of the approval is dated 19 Apr, 2008...
Maybe I´m seeing too much into it because I really crossing my finger about all the recent news -

As I see it look really important
Extension request? and a second one, if the first one would be Diablo 2 with its expansion, then the second one would have to be Diablo IIISERIAL NUMBER: 78/770575

Correct me if I´m wrong but this seem like a really important lead!

Update (3pm): The XFire WWI page has been edited, removing the Game Announcement part.
- If you are wondering, I contacted my XFire liaison around noon. No response as of 3pm.
- Also one of my Blizzard liaisons. Blizzard has not made any press releases concerning a Game Announcement.
He just updated the front page -
Jun 13, 2008Gainne posted a message on XFire Slips WWI Game Announcement?I´m convinced that this was completely on purpose, the last couple of years even at the last conventions we never had the amount of "slip off" and rumors about an announcement as we do now, one and each of this slip off and rumors have the smell of sulfur about them.Posted in: News

Blizzard owns the frachise but the people that created it left Blizzard long ago with the banishing of Blizzard North.
Some of you sound more like Blizzard fans then Diablo fans, which is not the same.

They showed us what imho is an important aspect of the game if this is what they are showing at the announcement of a game that we have been expecting for 8 years!, then I can assure you that the rest of it wont be much different, it doesn't make sense for them to say:
Guy 1: So what part of Diablo are we going to show at WWI 08 to surpraise everyone?!
Guy 2: I know!, lets show the less Diablo like part of the game for the announcement and keep the real gothic, gritty darker part of the game, what you guys think?
Everyone: Agreed!

Well I can understand that, I actually have mixed feelings about it too, since when you hear them talk about it you can sort of feel their commitment, but then I start looking at the the screenshots and I can help being nervous about it, what if it's like we actualy feared?
I don't want to run that risk, and I'm sure that a little change in the lighting and pallette colors would do huge improvements about the way most of us feel at the art direction.

Here are some of the points discussed at the Diablo III Art Panel, you can watch or download the video at Gamespot, there is also a very interesting Interview with Rob Pardo.
Anyhow here are the pics:
This is the guy behind the art direction and the reason for Diablo III looking as it does now, basically he choose how everything would look and the reason for it.....
A Summary of all the point that were discussed at the Art Panel at WWI 08, I'll point out a few of them (the ones of interest to this thread) and amply it further.
One wonders how Diablo III art direction is going in the direction it's going with guidelines like this ones....
I think this says it all...
And here we can see that the actual use of color in Diablo III in intentional, I'll explain the reason that Bill Morrismroe is giving for it.
Ok so the general idea as they say is to use color as a way to lead you on your way thru the game, supposely we should notice darker more gothic areas as the need to convey that mood grows, he says that Diablo 1 & 2 had a static gothic look going for it all the time and it was harder to make it darker as you got deeper into the game.
He also claimed that the general idea is make Diablo darker in "Emotion" rather than just darker looking.
So.. there you have it, discuss
EDIT:
Oh also this was at the end of the Panel, doesn't mean anything but I'll just add it for the heck of it
0
Well gimme a couple of minutes and I'll post the screenies of them explaining why this was done that way and most of the Art director reasons for it.
0
I'm hoping for a change really, while I saw all the videos and interviews hosted at gamespot they made it clear how they actually done all this changes on purpose, in one of the presentation there is a slide that reads "Don't be afraid of color" :(.
0
I'm watching the interview with rob pardo that game spot has and he is actually saying that all the changes and all the stuff we been discussion are actually intentional, He mentioned games like God of War and how he wanted to add some elements of its gameplay to Diablo III, also he clearly said that both Diablo 1 & 2 had the gothic look going for it but they THOUGHT it lacked color so they decided add brighter more vivid color while (dunno how) keeping the gothic feel .
But he also said that the general idea of announcing the game now is to get the opinion of the Diablo fanbase, this said he mentioned having done this with SC2 and that it also brought changes on the direction that the game was taking, if any this means that we still have a chance of sulling a little more our beloved Diablo.
He also said another interesting thing on about how long they been working on it and how far they are in development (without talking percentages)
For those who haven't seen it and the other videos go here:

Diablo = Santuary, Santuary = not real, play the games, read the lore then come back.
Anyhow now I know what was in my mind when I saw this
And it was this
Anyone who has played WoW, know the similarities.
0
How can they be aiming at younger audience when the game is rated 16+
And I completely agree with this thread, the first thing that it came to my mind when I saw the gameplay trailer was that there were too many light color, and besides that most of creatures I have seen so far don't have the rusted defiled and decayed look to them, take the skeleton with the shield for example, the shield shines with a bright blue light as if enchanted, I prefer when it looked like some random corpse just stood up with its rusted and decayed equipment.
That said I have hopes that there will be some changes, as the guy presenting the demo said "Nothing at this stage is final" meaning that anything could be changed.
If the art direction stays as it is, I would be forced to give Diablo III an 4 out of 5 instead of a full 5/5.
