If you like to use skills with one particular element then I strongly suggest you to get some +elemental skills damage on your helmet, bracers and amulet. If for example the tooltip shows you lose 10% damage but you get 15% lightning skill damage then that's still roughly 5% more damage that you can deal even when it's not shown in your char screen. Check out your profile on diabloprogress.com or use the firefox/chrome plugin on this page to see the REAL damage you deal with +elemental skills damage. My monk has a very similar build to yours and has much lower dps on the char screen than yours but with elemental damage it's a great deal higher.
Thanks for that website! That's extremely handy :D Also, thanks for the tips. I guess I should start hunting for new gear pretty soon, or at least duplications of my current with some elemental damages on them. I'm going to try and focus on lightening, and see how things turn out.

However, that only covers the damage portion of what I've been asking about. I can now see why my damage is lacking - but I've seen people with similar/less toughness than me, and they are able to survive in Torment 6 without much difficulty - whereas I get 1hit in most scenarios. What am I doing wrong in the defensive area? How can I fix it?

You are probably better off moving this to the Monk forums.
As of right now, Monks are pretty lackluster as damage dealers or for solo T6 clearing. They lack the really powerful spells, item interactions and/or set bonuses that enable other classes to do this. If you want to play T6 with a Monk, your best bet right now is playing a pull/palm support monk, which is almost mandatory for any T6 party, but this Monk would be unable to solo anything.

If you want to stay solo, you can go with the currently popular Fire or Lightning LTK builds, they can get some reasonable results on Torment 4-5. However, I would recommend waiting for the 2.1 patch to do so, since Blizzard has announced changes to the underwhelming set bonuses for the Monk sets, which might increase the Monks viability as a solo or DPS character a lot.

Your gear has a lot of room for improvement as well. For a Lightning-ish build you are using right now, you will want a lot more %Lightning damage, like Eye of the Storm, Odyn Sun, Whon Kim Lau etc. Cooldown reduction is a major improvement on higher torments as well to get a high uptime on powerful buffs like Serenity, Inner Sanctuary and Epiphany.

I'm not familiar with this particular forum - so would I have to re-post this in the monk area or is there a way to literally move it?

I lean towards lightening builds because of the effects they have, stuns and crowd control wise. Also, I never knew that % elemental damage was actually worth anything at all. I've not really put much focus on it, however, so I don't suppose I could have known. Is there anything in my items stats that I would be better off NOT focusing on? such as crit chance/crit damage/attack speed/etc? Any stats in particular that I should disregard?

I'm having trouble coming up with ways to make my monk stronger, so she can handle the higher torments. Currently, I can only handle (max) torment 4, and that is with death relatively often. Maybe 4 ~ 5 deaths per rift. I've found that my place is Torment 3, where I will only die once, twice tops, in a rift or while adventuring.

I want her to go to torment 6, though, because the extremely high drop rate of rares. I have compared my gear to many other peoples' who do play in torment 6, and my stat focus is quite similar to that of many of the people I see... but I am still too weak to survive for more than 10 seconds, not to mention I do quite literally next to no damage to anything.

I want to know what I'm doing wrong - what I can change to make my monk better, so that I CAN fight in torment 6 with relative ease. I don't want to sit in the middle of desecration or lightening or anything silly, I just want to be able to kill things and survive in a reasonable timeframe. So, if anyone knows enough to help me, please read on. I will list my entire monk build, along with all of her gear and gem focus. I'm not asking for specific directions on what to reroll, I'm just asking what I should start looking for in addition to what I'm focusing on, or what I should stop focusing on, what gear I need to be looking for, what build I should consider using, etc.

THIS WILL BE ALL PICTURES. I think it'll be easier that way.

I've looked up a great number of builds for monks, and I've tried a whole lot of them, but I've found that the skill build I have keeps me alive the longest, and gives me relatively good damage. But, even though that is the case for me, I am obviously doing something wrong - because I can't see any ways to get my monk stronger aside from finding gear with natural rolls as good as my enchanted rolls...

I'm just at a loss for what to do, and I really don't want my monk to be stagnant. Any tips, advice, or help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

PS: I'm not even sure if this is the right area to post this..? I hope I'm not breaking any rules.
