    1) Thanks for this thread and the video, and especially for the awesome description to accompany your video. I'm glad you followed the advice and re-posted the video with such a detailed description, and the vivid discussion in here just goes to show how useful and necessary a detailed description is!

    2) To all those saying "you don't need to farm materials": Like OP said, not everyone picked up blue/yellow items all the way. I never leave a rift without a full inventory, and despite crafting A LOT (about 300-500 pieces for my zDPS monk alone) I'm still at 20k materials each (3000 rifts and always picking stuff up). However, there are many people who thought that picking up stuff is "a waste of time" or "unnecessary" or they just didn't feel like it, and those fellas now need to farm materials ;-) For those, this thread might be helpful. I don't need it, but it was still interesting to read up on the method. Thanks again.

    3) To OP: you say your gear is BiS and optimized. I always like to see perfectly optimized characters. Would you mind sharing your profile? :-) It's always great to learn from those who have reached a point of "perfectly geared BiS characters", and it shows us what we continue playing for.
Thanks again for letting me know about them! My profile is http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Enig-1935/hero/43653614

A lot of my gear is stashed (especially for the Barb which I farmed religiously on until I saw a Crusader faceroll in 2.0.6 ha...) So take a look at my crusader (Ajax)

My pants still lack the ALL Res, my lidless wall could be better (but a glass cannon lidless wall doesn't seem to be worth it in a greater rift sitting so I kind of stopped)

The best piece of gear I got was the unity which will sadly be replaced in 2.1 due to its new stat rolls (more amenable to leg gems) but hey its gonna give me something to shoot for again!

I also have some very nice holy gear including 2 very nice fate of the fells.

Quote fromerav2000 I run only T6 (bounties and rifts) and I have an entire stash tab of blues and yellows. For all this time I haven't done any runs focused solely on farming mats, it just stacks naturally over the course of playing

I never said that if you play a long time, pick up every blue/yellow along the way that you won't have a lot in your stash. This is not the point of the post. The post is intended to help those who want/need to farm crafting mats FAST because they need them and did not pick everything that fell out of a demon's butt prior to them crafting/rerolling (a.k.a Piro marella farming). Your posts about farming t6 rifts over a long period of time is not really relevant to the idea of Min/Maxing crafting mats because it will take a long time to achieve what you have in your stash. I realize your argument that people shouldn't be in this position if they do what you suggested...but again this post is about people who are in the position of needing crafting mats and don't care/need legendaries (e.g. bounties and rifts are useless if you don't need gear on a character you're essentially perfecting). So I don't really know where you're going with this.

Your posts are more relevant to the idea of how to AVOID farming crafting mats exclusively which is nice and all but this post is about people who want to farm them because they need them and want to do it quickly and efficiently. I'm sorry that you don't get that and think I'm completely misleading people. Again, this post is for people who want to target this farm because they need them and want them quickly but yes...as I said in the OP if you want to farm legendaries as well doing t6 rifts and picking up everything is your best bet as you said since it will indeed add up over a long period of time.

I don't want to even think of how long it would have taken me to farm the additional 107 Piro Marella's if IONLY farmed t6 rifts for the crafting mats but you can be sure it would have been a lot longer than the 2-3 days (3-4 hours a day) it took me when I used these methods.

farm the mats? are you kidding me??

anyone who knows something about how Diablo 3 game works will also be aware that these mats are necesarry pretty much all the time. Either you are crafting a new weapon or rerolling some stats - they will always be of use.

Why do all that boring farming if you can do something useful like bounties and rifts and just pick up all the blues and yellows along the way?

The trick is to do it all the time you play any D3 mode because if you are only picking up legendaries and dissing the rest then you will wake up one day with an urge to create a video explanation regarding blue/yellow mats farm, because whoopsie... I ran out of them in my stash :)
Uhm yeah..Well to reply I don't have anything to farm in the game as of now (all my gear is BiS/optimized). I did say in the OP that if you want to farm legendaries at the same time then doing rifts is your best bet (but not for blue farming since Kadala's blue to yellow ratio is garbage). As for running out of crafting mats..the reason I ran out of them isn't because I wasn't picking them up before, it was due to the inordinate amount of crafts for Piro Marella (252)....

Before I ran out I crafted 145 Piros so let's do the math:
1 Piro= (38 dust/ 30 crystals) x 145= 5510 dust/4350 crystals (That's already quite a bit of farm and was pretty much farmed by T6 rifts-I did indeed have more but most of that was destroyed when I was maxing stats on other pieces of gear previously)

Yeah, farming crafting mats is really boring but guess what? Keywarden farming is even more boring and that's something you're gonna have to do if you want a good hellfire amulet..like a lot. If you don't have inordinate amounts of time and want to do things efficiently this is simply a more efficient way I found (due to my unlucky situation). Just trying to help people out cause you know...there are definitely people who will run out of crafting mats if they get unlucky for rerolls ..hence the large number of searches (including my own) for veiled crystal/arcane dust farming and they might just want to focus on the item/craft itself especially if they have nothing else to shoot for immediately.

Back when I was farming for Piro Marella's (252 crafted (last craft was a great roll)) I was scouring the forums for good ways to farm veiled crystals/arcane dust cause as you can imagine I ran out during the crafting process (primarily since the piro marella shield can roll so many useless affixes....)

While arcane dust farming is pretty well documented (using the scoundrel quest and coupling it with the abandoned siege camp) veiled crystal farming was pretty much reduced to "Just do rifts and gamble from kadala." Unless you're farming legendaries at the same time I'm here to tell you those people really have no idea how to effectively farm veiled crystals. While doing the actual rifts is decently effective, from a min/max standpoint it really doesn't cut it due to the RNG, the extra clear speed time it takes when you pick up all yellows (and go back to town to salvage etc.) More often than not, you'll end up with close to 2 inventorys full of yellows (and that's picking up every yellow that drops in a rift PLUS Kadala gambling). So unless you can get your party members to fork over all their yellows and blues heres a small guide to maximizing your farm.

EDIT:Nemesis Bracers required for this run

    Step 1:

Use a speedy build (I run swiftmount sader-endurance rune with lord commander passive)

    Step 2:

Create the game on adventure mode, go to the gardens of hope 1st tier waypoint and make use of the guaranteed shrine that spawns there by using nemesis bracers to spawn elite packs for 1 yellow drop. Make your way to Rakanoth (killing any random elites along the way since RNG will actually help you here). Before entering the library of fate check for a shrine that typically spawns just before for another free elite pack. Kill Rakanoth and TP back to town.

    Step 3:

Go to Road to alcarnus, checking for a shrine directly south of the waypoint. Enter alcarnus, searching for any additional shrines along the way to Maghda (up to 3 can spawn including the one just south of the initial waypoint). Make sure you kill the guaranteed elite that spawns in alcarnus and any unique mobs that happen to spawn (as they also drop yellows). Kill Maghda and port back to town.

    Step 4:

Someone pointed out that zoltun kulle is also an easy addition (completely forgot-thanks to Jarmo SillanKorva). Add him in as well for up to 3 more yellows (more often than not)

    Reason it works so well?

-Bosses can drop up to 3 yellows making this rinse and repeat strategy extremely effective. (When I ran this efficiently, I could stack 2 inventorys full of yellows in around 4-5 minutes which is significantly faster than rift clearing and gambling if you consider it in the long run)

BY THE WAY. If you're farming for a piro marella..may the RNG gods be with you!
