The new fan fiction board is pretty lawless at the moment, and even though I like it that way, I'd like to clear up a few things. I know there's a rule about no adult content, but it occurs to me that many, many people don't consider sexuality in art to be adult content. For example, the statue of David shows a man's reproductive parts, yet I wouldn't stop my children from seeing it. On a separate, yet related, note... being an adult myself, I'd probably include gratuitous scenes of violence and gore in my fan fictions. Would this fall under the term of adult content? If so, could there be exceptions for fan fiction and other art forms?
I guess I'm just wanting to know if there are any exceptions for the adult content rule that can be exercised in posts that are considered art, such as intimate scenes in fan fiction, *tasteful* art drawings with nudity, poetry that discusses things of a sexual nature... also scenes of intense violence, gore, and torture... that whole ballpark, really.
I know there is a thin line that would be hard to monitor, but this forum seems to be pretty big on letting people exercise their artistic creativity, and it occurs to me that there could be exceptions involved. Again, being an adult myself I'd like to write my fan fiction for other adults. I'm not going to write porno stories or anything, but I'd just like to know what kind of exceptions, if any, could exist, and if there could be more clarification of what is all considered adult content.
Perhaps questionable posts could be explicitly labeled as MATURE so that people who would be offended would know to stay away?
After we get this all discussed and decided I think the admins decisions should be added to the fan fiction rules post so that people know their boundaries. Thanks for your continued support of your community
My thoughts were that perhaps if a fan fiction or art drawing had sexual content that maybe the author could label it MATURE
Anything depicting nudity is a no, and anything graphically depicting sexual acts is a no. Basically things you can view on cable TV but converted into words is fine. No describing graphic scenes though. You should be able to know the difference.
Also the main reason just labeling it "mature" doesn't work is because minors could still wander in and view it unfortunately. We have no 100% sure way to limit who views what so as far as nudity goes that's not a option, a scene where two characters are gently caressing one another, is fine as long as it doesn't get too graphic, and as far as I know for gore, there is no limit on it, at least text wise.

Phwew, this was the big one in my book. I'm a fan of horror movies, and I can foresee some pretty rough scenes of violence, torture, and gore in the Diablo universe. The sexual stuff I can understand, especially with the art, but what about in fan fictions where you basically just say a character is naked? I mean, there are A LOT of naked/topless characters and enemies in the Diablo universe, would it be against the rules to describe a succubus as she is? The succubus is basically a naked woman whose prevailing strategy is to stun you with her sexuality. Is it okay to say that she is naked and attractive? Are we just supposed to keep away from sex scenes (waaaay understandable, I'm not trying to get monkey-love scenes into stories)?
I know I'm probing for an aweful lot of clarification, I just don't want to get in trouble later on .
What about this, what if I made an example of a scene that was as sexual as I think could possibly be NECESSARY in the Diablo universe and then you could tell me if it's too much? There wouldn't be any sex or descriptions that you might find in a steamy romance novel, just a Barbarian's encounter with a succubus (I think this is the most sexual example that could be NECESSARY to the storyline, because you can illustrate that two people have fallen in love without sex, and you can imply that two people had sex by just saying they went into a tent together and came out exhausted , but with a succubus you have to say that she was naked, attractive, and the Barbarian loses his cool because of his primal instincts). I could perhaps just PM the scene to you, and then if it's too sexual we can tone it down until it's acceptable and then add it to the rules thread as a template for "don't get more sexual than this"?
Sure PM me a example and I'll tell you if it's okay or not. Generally though gore is fine, nudity described in a fanfiction is fine, graphic sexual acts are not.

Okay, I think we'll be alright then. I'll work on that scene and we can take it from there.
Yeah, just think back to the Diablo novels, especially The Sin War. There are sex scenes in it, but the details are mostly skipped over. I can't really find the scenes I am thinking of, but I remember reading that she is described as womanly and very beautiful, and that he definitely likes what he sees.
Quote from Birthright »
“And I…” Lylia breathed. “I will stand with you at all times. The two of us always together, always…
one.”
She kissed him long and longingly…then led him to the soft ground…
And then the chapter ends, thats all that is described.
But of course, pm'ing a mod is a good idea if you're unsure.
And as a reference, this is what Number1SuperGuy sent Daemaro: Succubus short story, which is perfectly acceptable. I even kind of expected a little more in a way.
yah the nudity thing ruins in for me. if i'm trying to show my friend some of this kool fan art and he sees the half naked girl, then his thought is it's an excuse for nerds to go looking for free porn. I think it really should be taken out, lest we have more computer screens ruined by horny teen-agers.
So basically, if what you're typing, in text, violates what is already stated in the rules under nudity (or anything else, for that matter), then it shouldn't be there. As for the extreme, if it's a blurry line with what you're typing, 1) don't type it, think of something better or differently-worded, or 2) ask an administrator or moderator via PM. I think that should cover it. And, of course, if you see something questionable that someone else typed in the fan fiction sections, just report the post.
