As noted by our own member rrock54 here, Bashiok has announced on the Battle.net forums that the new patch will be coming with a ladder reset, and he also said that it could all happen as early as the end of this April:
We're preparing for a Diablo II ladder reset to coincide with the release of the 1.13 patch that's currently in development. We don?t have a final release date for the patch yet, but we're providing early warning as a reset could occur as early as the end of April. We'll be providing updates with more certain dates once the patch is closer to release.
Please be aware that with a ladder reset all ladder characters are moved to non-ladder. This means that your characters will still be accessible but will no longer have access to ladder-only features and games. In order to play in the new ladder season after the reset you will need to make new ladder characters.
This thread will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
Thoughts? Proclamations of enthusiasm and great joy? I, for one, can't wait to see what all is being changed and added, and will be starting again with the new reset- fresh chances and new content. It's a win-win scenario. I'm hoping many of you will consider dusting off your old LoD disc to start up again with the reset and this news in mind.
I'm not too enthusiastic about starting d2 lod again..I played every character, every possible way. I just don't think they can add that much to make it more interesting. Unless this is a major content patch, this is really not necessary. If this is a worth-while patch I will look into it.
Thanks for the notice.

I'm really hoping the "content" part isn't hype. As in, I hope it isn't just a few runewords or something they add. I hope it's at least as much as they added in 1.11 with the Uber quest, but it really should be more than that. It was amazing seeing how much people wanted in the content patch with the previous announcement that they were taking requests from their fans- after all these years. It just goes to show how good and long-lasting their fans are.
I wonder if my idea become true XD as I said on that diablo 2 patch 1.13 idea thread "make bigger eventory or easier to xfer items between character to character ;P" lolzzz
Bashiok made a post awhile back hinting the new content was going to be pertinent to possibly be a new act or quest(s).

"Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration. That we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather."
Comtemplating whether this is enough to drag me away from WOW. I still play DIablo II on the off chance I get some time to do so.
But this week is horrible. Im on call for work this week. basically cuts my week day free time in half, and kills my weekend.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I might dust off my LoD CD for 1.13, depending on how much content it'll bring. A D3 tie-in quest is a winner for me.
Fingers crossed.
That actually sounds like the most logical thing they could do. No one has ANY idea of what happened after the World stone. (well I don't at least) Also what happened with tyreal.

they'll never see me coming.. life is a sequence of tragedies, inconsistent only by fleeting, elusive moments of pleasure,
serving only to ensure absolute vulnerability to the pain of their inevitable absence.
