Well, if he switched sides, then in my opinion he is corrupted. Nihlathak was a corrupted human--he exchanged his heritage, his knowledge, and his people for power and his own life. That doesn't mean he became physically demonic, but his intentions were the same.
As far as I understand it, Izual only caged his real self in a demonic shell, so his essence didn't transform, but sure enough, his desires and morality switched like a light switch. That is corruption, in my opinion.
Of course, one could argue that Tyrael has always been corrupted. He sides with humans, not with the Council.
The thing is, Heaven was never WITH us. They just allowed us to live. The only one actually with us was Tyrael. Most angels could care less what happens to the humans. Tyrael though I would say is least likely to become corrupted though. I don't believe any angel will become corrupted. Does that mean they won't decide to destroy us though? No. They came close to it before.
Izual. But I agree that at least Tyrael will not stoop to corruption. Far too simple and predictable. I think the story will show more of how intervention is costing him valuable sway in the Council, friendships up there, and strains everything he knows he should do as an angel.
Yes, my point exactly. They made it obvious it wasn't him when the story follower (you) found out Marius thought it was supposed to be him (Tyrael) because he wasn't showing who he really was, which Tyrael, characteristically, never had an issue with, unless some other beings. It was dished out to you.
They never even hinted at any form of subterfuge in the closing cinematic of Act V. There's no reason to think there was any. To think so is just to impress more information that isn't actually there on a storyline already bloated with unresolved plot points, poor character development, and a plethora of other complications.
In the case of Baal masquerading as Tyrael in the epilogue cinematic, that was literally dished out to you by the story. They wanted you to know that. They showed it all to you on purpose. There is no reason to assume that of Tyrael in the Chamber because no information was given to assume so.
I do not see any reason to assume information that is not there, like assuming that Tyrael was not actually in the Chamber. There's just no reason to think so. It would be like saying we never met Cain because there's magic out there that can deceive. I think it would be wise to simply assume exactly what the storyboard artists (story writers) told us- that Tyrael came in after the physical death of Baal, instructed you on his inability to predict the resultant corruption of the Worldstone, and his destroying of it thereof.
Ha, you're right! I don't know why I thought that for so long:
Quote from "WorldOfSanctuary »
[I]The greatest of these heroes was Izual, lieutenant to the Arch-Angel Tyrael and bearer of the Angelic Runeblade Azurewrath.[/I'] He once led a fierce attack upon the Hellforge as the creation of the dark demonblade Shadowfang was nearing completion. His quest was to destroy both wielder and weapon - a charge that he was destined never to complete. Izual was overcome by the legions of chaos and, tragically, was lost to the Darkness. His fate stands as testament to the fact that Angels and Demons alike shall fearlessly enter into any domain - so long as their hated enemies dwell within
Wow, that is really bizarre. I totally never saw that, and I think you might be on to something. However, I don't know about the guy on the left being an angel- his frame is very small and frail-looking, I don't see any armor, and I see no wings. I could be wrong, though
(I think what you say are wings are actually raised hands or something- wings in Diablo are tentacley.)
agreed! or maybe its imperius really...something is different when u look at the "new" wings..there is a change and i doubt its just a new artistic direction..it has something to do with the story..
Yeah, I kind of wanted to say he was really Imperius, too, but I don't know, it would make more sense to have Tyrael as the main feature on the site since fans are already familiar with him. It's probably just a detail overhaul like most people said- better technology allows the creators to make him look more amazing.
P.S.: Please, let's not try any of those picture-over-analyzations typical of pre-announcement Diablo fans. Like looking at a picture of ice for 6 straight hours and drawing a vague star shape, and therefore = "OMFGz0rzsz itis DIABLO!!!11!11!!!lolz1!!!lamo@!" It's just an image, don't over-analyze it, please. It's never helped in the past and has always proven wrong
Those wings are ornamental and have always been there (watch the cinematics for the end of Act II or the end of Act V.) As for his real wings, I have no idea why they aren't there.
As far as I understand it, Izual only caged his real self in a demonic shell, so his essence didn't transform, but sure enough, his desires and morality switched like a light switch. That is corruption, in my opinion.

Kudos to you, Blackwing!
