The main idea was that the deterrment coincided with other societal changes, so even though the former had nothing to do about it, that was what you noticed and applied the success to.
Now I can't find the actual report, I only remember seeing in on TV here in Sweden yesterday or so.
EDIT: Damn it, even searching through the programs web-page yields no results. If any swedes here know what I'm talking about and would like to help me out, here's the site: www.svt.se/rapport
EDIT2: Aha! I bet you all thought I was pulling this out of my ass. I saw it this monday, and it was research made by Alfred Blumstein. Unfortunately, I've only read about it in swedish, so it won't be of any help to you, but at least now you know the name.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

Cause even if it were done randomly, as long as people knew there was more moderating going on, and they weren't sure when and where it could happen, that might clean up some of the flaming and trolling going on. Or not.
A recent study by a famous criminologist showed that this tactic, long emplyed by New York City, is infact useless and has no effect. Very interesting in my opinion. If he is to be believed, fear of being severely punished does not deterr crime.

It's great that you can ignore those things, but what about the people who can't?
True, and I bet there are quite a lot of people out there who get discouraged to use this site because of the amount of spam.

Global moderators are nice but you still can't expect one to be able to do all the moderating. Like the idea of a day and night moderator or a moderator from USA or Canada, one from Australia, and one from Europe would have the same effect.
Moderating all of this seems to be a full-time job. I can get stuck here for hours if I go through all forums and read most posts. When this place expands, it's only going to get worse.

Yes, but mean moderators are different from fair moderators... it is easier to see when the forum rules are clear, but when the forum doesn't really have any rules (like this one doesn't), it becomes problematic for a moderator to decide how harsh exactly should he be.
That is surprising to me. While I do enjoy a more passive approach we have here not crammed with rules, almost all other, and definately all the serious, forums I know of have rules that are clearly stated and that moderators enforce.
I think that if D3 is ever announced that will have to be changed, and it may come naturally.

Moderators are not supposed to be mean, they are supposed to be fair. Mean moderators are jerks, they have a bad day or they don't like you and they go hop around giving people ban points.
Moderators are supposed to be fair yes, but what happens is that the "victims" of moderation see the mods as mean, because they were straightened out. It's a natural response.

and some other random things, doesnt matter though, like i said everyone uses it. (also the prejudice about gender, race, etc,...)
But thats just who we are and we know we know better but its imprinted into our brain (like; be afraid of spiders, or be afraid of something that smells weird, etc,...)
People are alwasy judged by their gender and age, but here's where the Internet once again is beneficial. Just shut your mouth and everything works out for the better

I was hoping to get some other perspectives on my capabilities as a moderator. Obviously, with the position comes the responsibility of maintaining an image as a role model. But I think I could fill those shoes if given the opportunity. What do you guys think?
And this isn't definitive. This is simply extra input upon which Umaro and Elfien may make a decision upon whether or not they need another mod.

I don't know you very well, but I think Siaynoq makes a valid point. Most often the people who want it abuse it, while those who don't or don't care tend to make better mods.
At this point that's about all I can say.
I've always been a fan of the idea that administrators contact potential moderators instead of vice-versa, and pretty much because of Lord Mantis opinion.

Well, I'll just say this; in all honestly, I actually think this forum could use a tad more moderation. Since I'm seeing people constantly violate basic forum etiquette. Especially when it comes to trolling. But I am also just as wary of too much moderation. However, you seem sincere, so why not?
No kidding. I see stuff in here that would never pass anywhere else. But I guess that's what happens when the moderators (somewhat) troll too...
