There is no situation whatsoever in which you need maphack, only those in which you want it because you're lazy. I did plenty of magic finding over the years, and never once used maphack because it felt dishonest and because, doing usually just mephisto, pindle, or baal runs, it didn't save that much time.
I will say when I first played Diablo 2 I played every ACT on every difficulty and enjoyed it however after you complete it the first time there is no way in hell you want to do it again. Maphack became a necessity for Mfing the goal was to quickly move through the lands.
An easy replacement would be to make area maps purchasable. For example you want to kill Hell Meph so you buy Durance lvl 3 map for 100,000 Gold. You have to buy it every game that you make. It could make Gold viable and you wouldn't need Maphack then.
The problem is Bnet 2.0 isnt even finished yet and when it does get done its will be fine tuned to SC2. They haven't even been working on D3 Bnet 2.0 all they really mentioned is that they have plans or ideas on what they might do with it but the focus is getting it ready to ship with SC2.
Or its a April Fools joke.
AS long as there is way to cut around the corners in a game people will do it.
I'd say the majority of D2 players out there use some 3rd party program.
Actually everyone who plays D2 cuts corners in the game to progress.
actually once you get to the point where you have the gear Maphack is not needed just join a Hell Baal bot runner.
Believe me it saves so much time.

Hunter would have range skills to go with Traps and some sort of Animal/Nature summon?
While the Ranger would be more of a Sniper incorporating Archery and Stealth.
I actually hope it is the Druid because they can really revamp that Class up to be more bad ass.
They are classic Pen and Papers and aside the first two classes so far taken from Pen and paper RPGs.
