Hey, was just wondering what your guys's styles of guitar playing were. Favorist guitarist(s), who you mimic in your style of playing, riffs/licks you use occasionally in your solos and such.
I want a discussion thread for guitar players to have a place to talk about anything concerning guitars, mostly about playing though.
Also if you need help with what to do if for example you break something and need advice for fixing it.
_________
I'll start off by saying I have many guitars... I have a fender squier, hagstrom electric, a custom 335, ibanez 335, washburn acoustic electric, and a michael kelly electric. I've been thinking of selling the michael kelly and the ibanez lately though just cause i prefer playing my custom 335 of the hagstrom, and of course my fender was my first guitar and i have to keep at least one acoustic even though it never gets played.
My favorite guitarists if I were to limit myself to three musicians would be Hendrix, Vaughn, and John Frusciante.
My favorite band is def. the Chili Peppers and have been since I was like 13.
I definitely mimic Frusciante the most in my style of playing. I don't sweep pick (first off cause I can't) but my style doesn't reall call for it and I just don't like it... I sustain a lot of notes in my solos and go for a more melodic style of playing and I use A LOT of hammer/pull-offs like Frusciante. I've been beefing up my solo repertoire by learning new riffs and licks from watching and listening to Frusciante and some youtube vidoeos.
I play a couple different genres of music including funk, rock, metal, psychedelic, experimental, and anything of a mixture of those as well.
I've been wanting to learn some more new riffs and licks, like hammer/pull-off stuff, so if anyone has any good vids or references I'd appreciate anything you could explain or send me a link to or anything.

What about you guys? I hope this can become a thread where anyone who plays guitar on the forums can get a good discussion going!
Right now, I have an Ibanez GAX70 and a Schecter Damien 6 (both very good beginner guitars), a Roland Microcube (that I use mostly for my heavy guitar work) and a homemade amp that I use for cleans. I tend to find myself using the Roland a little bit more though.
I usually do stuff in the lower frets (0 thru 5) and I venture out of that when I do my clean guitar work. I rarely use complicated chords because I usually bar a lot of chords.
My style varies depending on what I'm primarily listening to. I teach myself to do a lot of things, experiment with a lot of chords, and just try to reinvent my own wheel every time I practice, so I think I'm pretty well rounded. The reason I don't like using complicated chords is because a lot of them don't sound good to me and I just can't find myself being very successful with some chord transitions while playing live.
My favorite guitarists would probably have to be Mikko Lindstrom (of HIM fame), Daniel Laskiewicz (The Acacia Strain), and Chad I. Ginsburg (CKY). I've been playing for a little over two years, but I don't think I'm ready to call myself intermediate.
Edit: Removing typos because they bug me

Anyways, Azriel, I like some augmented and strange chords it just depends. I mean, I use a lot of bar chords as well but it just depends. You should upload something on youtube sometime.
My style varies in waves but overall my typical styles are funk, metal, hard-rock, and psychedelic hahaha, actually pretty wide but generally I'll go in phases and just focus on one of those styles for a while then go into another phase...
I'd say after I played for about 3 years I was intermediate and now that I've been playing 6 years I'm advanced but not like SRV advanced bahahahah
Ha, I mean SRV def. interests me but I was just using him for a general comparison of technical skills, and I'm no where near that. I'd say I can mimick frusciante's style pretty redicuously close though in terms of his soloing style and technique.
So ur a metal-head then? I'm just recently getting into metal in a big way, but could never limit myself to just one genre of listening and/or playing i feel
The way I look at it, Metal and Rock together have innovated so much in modern guitar work, I could stick mainly to Rock and be able to go into so many different techniques and styles, it's just a conglomeration of so many talents.
"Oh, bro, teach me how to play Rock guitar."
"Okay, we're going to begin with AC/DC, who revolutionized the power chord. Then we're going to hit up Black Sabbath to look at what makes a successful riff. Then we're going to check out Guns N' Roses for this and this, then and then and then..."
You get the idea. I just like "Rock guitar' because of how versatile it is.

Oh I would totally agree with what you just said. It is very very versatile, and I think you'd agree 'rock' as a general term is the most versatile genre of music.
Having said that other genres of music are very versatile, maybe not as much as rock, but also have different feelings and meanings associated with them such as funk and psychedelic, although even these contain elements of rock, a lot of the time, even these genres are laced with rock elements and phrasing patterns.
I mean 'rock' in the general since could actually incorporate funk and psychedelic as, well, funk-rock and psychedelic-rock (maybe even progressive rock could be classified a little hand in hand with psychedelic-rock).
When I write or play music or even just listen to music I set different feelings with different genres, probably as most people...
Rock is just rockin and gets me in a good pumped up type of mood
Psychedelic, pretty easy, mellow chill music
And funk, just anytime music really
I can't stop rambling!!! All music is anytime music what am I saying??? But having said that, that's why I love the Chili Peppers and John Frusciante's solo albums, because they mix so many genres I love together.
Glad to find fellow guitarists as well as Diablo fans!
I own 5 guitars; An A13C Alvarez, my father passed this down to me, it's stunning. An EXP Deluxe, Taylor Grand Concert (Spent 2 months of pay checks on this one.. I think you can see it in one of my gallery photos), A cheap-o fender, and a Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 <3
Honestly I have no real favorite guitarist(s), I hear so many things I like I've never settled on even a small list of favorites. On that same note, I don't really follow any genre of music closely as to what I play alone.
I've been part of a band for 5 years called An Open Ended Sky, we play gigs at The Stone Pony and local bars, we were playing in the back ground at Shark Bait bar in an episode of Jersey Shore (God I hate that show..) as they were recording the boardwalk, I though that was pretty neat though lol.
I've been playing since I was 13, never had lessons.. Self teaching sucks, learning how to play comes with practice, learning how to read and write music, not so much lol.

Sorry I hadn't checked on this thread in forever, kinda forgot
Na that's us lol.. That's our old page, a small friend/fan base is running it. We're working on a new one right now, well our friend who's a site designer is. That's our HC stuff, not what we play at bars and boardwalk gigs. At those places we cover songs, with a few originals.

I would definitely consider myself a Hard Rock/Metal guitar player, nothing more, nothing less.

Anywho, glad to see some others!!
Shred the Gnar boys~
Do you have a Myspace? I googled the name but I got a Death Metal band (which I assume isn't you).
I've been playing since I was 14. Self-teaching does suck, but I'm not going to pay for a teacher.
