From what I've remembered, it was cool back in those days. Anyways, has anyone here thought that probably this movie was an early inspiration for the early Diablo game writers/creators? Medieval setting, some gothic theme, time warp, dimensional warp, undead army, castles, some paladin like guys, forbidden lore, imprisoned evil entity, sword and sorcery, dark fantasy etc.

Mathematics is a penumbra, those who hold such an affection to this noble field would find themselves into the realm of the Heirarchy of Abstracts and Paradoxes.
the evil dead series is by far one of my most favorite movies. AoD is just plain great. Ive seen the movie over 100 times though i don't really see this as a basis for the orig diablo game. There are some similarities as you mentioned. But im sure there is a more spot on movie that has much more in commmon.
But dont get me wrong i think the orig doom games done by id software and their inclusion of the chain saw weapon late in the game was strictly pulled from Evil dead 2 and Aod
Yeah, Army of darkness is by far one of my most favorite movies as well.
But I aside from that you've mentioned, I don't see much in common.
But still, the similarities are pretty interesting, never know, Blizz could have used it for inspiration ^^.
Also, grats on post 5000 Silver :D.

Thanks.
Back on topic, AoD does not have magic, or really any dungeon crawling, AoD has a double barreled Remmington, which retails for about 109.95, made in grand rapids Michigan.
Shop Smart Shop S-Mart., which d1 does not.
Though in both AoD and d1 the main enemy seems to be Demons, they are brought about in a different light. The book of the dead in AoD brings back the dead (dead-ites)
but makes no ties to these actualy being demons from hell, There is no Religion in AoD but a deff heaven and hell in the Diablo universe.
You can argue thae AoD has alchemy (potion making) but it is to hard to compare this fact to the 2 because potions have been in many many games before the orig diablo
slightly off topic, Has anyone played the actual video games in the evil dead series?
there are a few pc and i believe 2 ps2 games. I have gone though them all and they actually take place as like sequals to the movies.
P.S I went too middle school with Bruce campells Son. we were friends. He graduated the same year i did.
Army of Darkness was major badass. I hope it was an inspiration, because it is literally the only movie like it. I hope they make a more serious Diabloic type of movie.
Possession is one of the main plot aspects of the Evil Dead series. No zombies, no undead really or anything like that. Just demonic entities possessing living people or mounted elk heads.
There actually isn't much possession really in Diablo. Sure, LoD brought possessed monsters, but that's really not significant. And Diablo 3 seems to have more of that sort of thing with the Cultists, but no, Evil Dead really doesn't remind me of Diablo in anyway. And so much of the demonic forces in Evil Dead really seems unnamed and even more chaotic than the demonic hierarchy found in the Diablo universe.
I remembered diablos soul stone as being something of a possessive entity, seeing as the prince had struck himself in the head with it, and then the hero for the battle of tristram... Honestly Diablo has always sort of reminded me of Ultima
Yeah, the Soulstones definitely possess people in a sense. That kind of magic in Diablo though seemed like a much more powerful thing to be able to do. In Evil Dead, people would just get possessed randomly left and right and they could easily become unpossessed too.
They could be interpreted that way. But it might be more accurate to say many were just twisted, deformed, mutated, or driven to madness by the energies of the Prime Evils. The Brambling Hulks are a good example of this, I think.

Yes, but, the monsters have always been called Diablo's forces (as in when a player joins the game) suggesting that they have an affiliation with the Prime Evils.
