Gosukusan, you seem like a weird, and angry little man. And so am I, dammit! Your submissions were obviously skillfully made, and some of them were clever! Not very funny or epic, but still awesome. Too bad that the moderators were looking for funny and/or epic. And again too bad that both of those traits are "In the eyes of the beholder", so to say. We get it, you spent a lot of time on your submission while others spent 5 minutes, but that doesn't make yours better suited for the task.
Now, I am not at all a creative person; a 5 year old will draw better stuff than me and write better songs probably. And for that reason, I just stick random stuff into my submission(s). Are mine better than yours? Not in my opinion, but regarding the focus of this contest, I don't think they're much worse either. Yours are great and well made. But sadly, the contest wasn't/isn't about artistic merit. Yours have certainly been among the best from a visual stand point, but not really funny or awe inspiring.
The problem is simply this...(and i'll only speak for myself). No matter who you are, with the exception of possibly the author of the winning submission, you can random select any page on the other contest thread and find a better choice than the one that won. I seriously doubt that anyone can argue in any seriousness that of all the submissions, they can't pick one that is better.
And now for something completely different... Where are people getting this "The contest is a sham, they just give keys to their friends!" stuff from? Does anyone even have a reliable source of any kind? Because as far as I'm aware, the moderators practically own the beta keys and as such do not need a contest as an exscuse to give their keys away. And while we're at it, I didn't think the winners were the best, but hey, I'm not a moderator so that doesn't matter. If the moderators thought those were the best, then kudoz or whatever ya wanna say.
This kind of talk always crops up when an organization doesn't disclose their selection process very well...or when they make blatantly obvious misjudgements. The first contest was, while questionable, at least understandable in it's amusement. I personally believe that the second one was a horrible lapse in judgement, and leads me to believe that the winners are random drawn from a pool. Do i have any evidence to support that... not exactly, but again, (and i'll say it more i'm sure), i have a hard time thinking that of all the submissions, this was the "best".
And by the way, I'm a tiny little Dane, and even I got the Charlie Brown reference. And they didn't say that submissions needed both a picture and a caption, just either one. And yes, it is called "Caption Contest" but that just sounds so much better than "Caption and/or picture Contest" in a headline.
If people are this mad about the contest, don't participate, or if you think only stupid, unoriginal stuff wins, then submit stupid, unoriginal stuff and get your very own Beta Key! (Disclaimer: The Beta Key does not open any physical locks or sardine tins. Except the Beta Sardine Tin from Montreal.)
People expect a contest like this to be fair. While choices on artistic talent are controversial, some things can still have a bottom line. That is, i think, what the problem is. I know that's what my issue with the winner is.
Now to all the trolls, flamers, and Gosukusan worshippers out there, if you wanna bash at me, my grammar, my spelling or whatever, I say: Have at me then! And keep in mind, I said some very nice stuff about Gosukusan too <3
I don't particularly want to bash you...but i will challenge you to not find a picture more deserving than the winning submission in the entire post.
And thank you to the delightful moderators for running this lovely site and the contest!... Can my nose get any browner? I'd like to think so! Tune in next week, when I deliberately get a Pinocchio curse so that I may... Dig deeper! *Sunglasses on and cue the "Yeah!"*... I've never actually seen an episode of CSI...
I'm glad you're still in on the contest... I for one won't be participating in this again. From what i've seen, it either is a random submission (in which case, the person that posts the most amt of crap will have the best odds of winning, and since i don't have the time or desire to post retarded amounts of crap, i wouldn't have a shot anyway), or it's a biased competition, or the judges have such terrible taste that i can't get behind it anyway.
I don't know what kind of restrictions Blizzard puts on their extra beta keys for the purpose of giveaways, but i know that when a radio station has giveaways, they can't just keep what they want for themselves (as you alluded to in my second quote). If this site is under similar restrictions, then it's not beyond the realm of possibility that there could be some foul play afoot with this particular contest.
Title: Give me BETA or Give me DEATH
Enjoy !
Sorry for my English, I'm French.
