Why would the necromancer be in diablo 3? The witch doctor is almost the exact same archetype and concept as a necromancer...
Think of it this way...Theres 5 classes total, barbarian and witch-doctor (necromancer replacement) are already in which leaves 3. What else are they going to pick? A class thats almost the same damn thing as another?
I can almost garuntee there will be a paladin and sorceror type in this game and everyone seems pretty intent on there being either a druid, assassin, or amazon type to fill the 5th spot.
Do the math
Better yet, lets get a poll going to revive the necro as the replacement to the witch-doctor. See how many people would prefer that and send an email directly to blizzard. They might listen they might not, but I doubt they will want to disapoint their fans if everyone would prefer a necro.
No one knows if there will only be 5 classes. Blizzard has stated that the number is not finalized nor is it guaranteed that the Witch Doctor will replace the Necromancer.
I posted this in another forum, but this was my brief idea:
I think that the Diablo universe should be Heaven (angels), Hell (demons) and 'Earth' (humans). No other races. In the wiki and rumours I have read, there was a concept to apply a 'light' and 'dark' version of weapons/armor with different attributes or effects. I think, especially if the premise of Diablo 3 is Hell invading Heaven, this could transfer over to character building. Not KotOR style that is ongoing choice based, but a flagged affiliation at char creation. If Heaven and Hell bring the war to Sanctuary, humans will inevitably choose sides.
You have three main character affiliations: Physical, Balanced or Magic. Within those three factions you have all the sub class choices, true to the Diablo history and progression. Then you have a light or dark affiliation. The light/dark affiliations can give way to different skill progressions (think white vs black magic, or buff vs curse). And anyone can be male/female.
Physical:
Barbarian (uses the giant battle weapons and armor).
Monk (staff or two sticks, light/no armor)
Swordsman (dual wield swords or other sharps)
Archer (bows, of course... dark could be more rogue style)
Balanced:
Paladin (uses a shield, auras, light heals, dark debuffs)
Bard (middle armor/weapons, some magics, think FF 'red' wizard)
Druid (or something similar, in touch with the 'earth')
Assassin/Ninja (some 'ninja' magics, hand-to-hand weapons)
Magic:
Wizard/Sorceress (light is heals, wind/lightning, water/ice... dark is debuff, fire, poisons, black)
Summoner (light side more druidic/psychic, dark side more necro style)
Alchemist (potions and scrolls, much better than d2 throwin pots)
Shapeshifter (changes into angel/demon forms)
Please no guns or elves or orcs. I also like the idea of getting to level X as generic fighter/mage whatever and then choosing your profession/class.
It's not perfect, don't tear it apart! Probably hard to balance so many choices anyway.
It won't happen anyways. Blizzard should keep Diablo true to its past.
Golemns are constructs, so that wouldn't work. Honestly though, I believe that Lycanthropy would work with this character class, and a redefiniton of Spirit/Dire Wolves similar to your Black Dog concept would be refreshing. That picture you used also gave me an idea for another potential skill: Armor of Thorns (Druid Cyclone Armor + Necro Iron Maiden).
Ohh, Armour of Thorns is a great idea. I'll add it to the list.
Actually yeah, I suppose Lyncanthropy could work with it. The transformation would likely be a lot scarier-looking lol, with attacks that involve poisoned claws. And what about transforming into a spirit? Or an etheral dragon in inspiration of Trag'oul? That'd be awesome.
But what did you mean by a redefinition of Spirit/Dire Wolves?

Since this particular game is a fantasy game i would preffer these kinds i reffered.
About classes decide it for youselves...
DjDragon STFU. This is not WoW.... This is Diablo.
Why do people talking about putting wow character in Diablo. This is completely different Lore. Diablo is about heaven vs hell, good against evil.
Sometimes I thank god that the devopelers do not listen to the community, because i'm reading some shit here like dragons, elves, dragon ball z and what not that are TOTALLY FUCKING RETARDED.

There have traditionally no support or healer type classes
Sooo many people want a monk+Warrior thing (warcraft and guildwars fans) but it pushes diablo to the traditional MMO and ITS NOT!!!! its dark and gritty with no guilds or events which We love
Diablo should only have the paladin as a "healer" class, which he wasnt exactly. 90% of the time you relied on potions and life steal to regain health. They already added dropped pots during battles. no nead for a healer. This IS NOT WoW.
I'm sort of the opposite. Paladin was my favorite character in D2, but I like the traditional zealot build and thought the hammerdin/FoH was a bit...cheesy. I say get rid of the "paladin" class alltogether and stick a knight of some sort in there that has alot of the Paladin skills and maybe auras but lose the hammers (which were never used until synergies came around). Hammerdins made the game WAY too easy...
I figure we're sure to see a sorceress/sorcerer class (although maybe going by another name), we've got the summer type covered by the Witch Doctor (although I'm not terribly fond of what I've seen thus far), we'll get a rogue/amazon/ranger for long range I assume. So if I had to guess I'd say it's gotta be some sort of balanced fighter for the 5th class (knight/paladin hopefully).
*edit* I for one didn't know that the 5 characters was not final, thought it was. Still...it seems like a logical number with enough headroom to add on an xpac later.
Calling it:
-Barbarian
-Witch Doctor
-Sorcerer
-Rogue/Amazon/Ranger
-Knight/Paladin
Although I almost wonder if they'll throw everyone way off and make the unannounced classes completely different than what we expect...

Looking for members of the old DarkKillers Paladin clan...
Man in Diablo 2 even the assassin couldn't go stealth...what will Diablo be if you can't go into battles with dozens of enemies?
i definitely don't think the Ninja will be a playable class, maybe a set of Armor
I also hope if a rogue or assassin class is in D3 that they can "hide" from the monsters somehow, or go full on stealth/ethereal.
And then skills could make it so there first attack on strike back from stealth would make like a big explosion or something.
So you could stealth and walk into a huge group of monsters then BOOM!
That would make for some fun gameplay!

Those races don't really exist in Diablo Lore.

I agree. WoW is lame anyways.
Dude... what do you think a Paladin was. Prayer and Sacrifice auras.... He was a religious warrior... Just like a Cleric or Monk.
Exactly! To all of the WoW fanboys on this forum - Epic Fail.
