My names DiaperGravy, I used to play Diabloe and Diablo 2+LOD after Diablo, but eventually moved on to better pastures when the game got to the ripe age of about 4 years old. So I searched the internet randomly wondering if there was any possibilities for Diablo 3 to come out, eventually after searching around I found this site and then realised no one posted any ideas for a storyline:confused:
So heres my interpretation (please note I've taken it all in from various sources from the net and added my own to make something unique):
Beginning trailer:
A cold fortress with sophisticated architecture stands lone on a cliff face, the wall of the fortress facing the gorge is lined with guards, all with solemn faces, all still look outwards from the cliff armed ready for battle with bows tensed and two handed swords on their backs all in uniform almost identical.
As the camera pans around from the fortress on to the area below the cliff we see hell.
The fortress overlooks an army consisting of a huge variety of random monsters, skeletons, ghosts and unknown life forms all charging head first over the top of each other towards the fortress in all out attack.
Cut back to the guards, a large figure walks the walls issuing orders to the guards, rallying them to contain their fears against the minions of hell trying to explain how they need to hold the fortress at all costs to protect earth from the maurading monsters.
As the monsters draw nearer the general stands to attention facing towards the oncomming onslaught with determination. he tells them to keep holding, then as the armies approach the bottom of the cliff he screams "FIRE!"
The deafening roars of demons and beasts is silent as the camrea follows the arrows through the air, all that can be heard is whistling, then the sudden crash of the first wave of demons and wave after wve clawing their ways over them filled with bloodlust, they start clawing their way up the mountain face, soldiers shooting arrows down and mages casting fireballs that melt the cliff side and the monsters on it, as the monsters get to the top, wraith-like figures cast open a glowing red portal which opens up at the bottom of the cliff as well, monsters flow through the two portals, spewing up and out onto the side of the fortress, as guards draw their swords the general calls for a retreat to the second shell of the fortress.
Cut to a room, Deckard Cain leans on his staff facing a robed figure with a shorud covering his face, a brief flash outlines Tyreal the angel. "How could they have amounted such a force?" asks Cain almost to himself.
"The forces of hell are not to be taken lightly Cain, you of all people should know that" says the mystical voice of the angel, "Although the three brothers are gone, they left seats of power the lesser demons all wished to fill...And only the most powerful have made it to the positions."
"But surely the chaotic forces of hell couldn't organise themselves into such an attack without a stronger force, even the brothers never attempted this!". Said Cain .
"Old powers die out and new ones prosper Deckard." Replied Tyreal. "All we can do is hope to hold out against the onslaught, for if we do not then all of Earth is to suffer eternal pain and torment under these greater forces minions."
The camera pans out of the room to overlooking the fortress and plains where the battle still rages on, meteors rain from the blood red sky and the air is thick with screams of men and beasts as the scene fades to black.
I don't really have any suggestions for character types, but keeping the same ones for Diablo 2 and Lord Of Destruction would be a smart move so older players are easily associated with the abilities etc. Or maybe replacing a few characters (say about half) so older players have got something new to work with
Another feature that will have to be kept in the game to keep it fresh is making every level unique in design everytime you play it. Some people believe in the idea of Diablo being a MMORPG, to have this levels would have to keep the same design and therefore would become stale very quickly, a large part of the game was finding out where items were kept, finding out which part of the level had a specific dungeon etc. The problem with MMORPGs is that this feature is ruined and therefore no one experiences the whole game but find extremely quick routes to places only experiencing a thenth or so of the game each time played in the effort to gain experience etc.
First Act:
Your act starts out in the back of the fortress, the safe area. Various characters would include officers to talk to about storyline etc. Deckard Cain and Tyreal would provide information on your mission objectives. Missions included in this act could include closing gateways that are producing demons, defeating minor officers, helping armies of heaven push the line back, and eventually defeating a higher ranking officer before the final retreat (the equivilant of Diablo 2's Andariel).
A large gateway is unopened, the general seen on the battlements earlier explains this is a last resort to escape from here to earth in case the armies of hell breaks the line. Once through the portal though, it will only be a matter of time until minions of hell re-open it and spew through to earth
Equipment is basic as you are only a lowly soldier brought in to help defend. High ranking guards as shown in the cinematic casting spells, shooting bows and hefting large swords are actually angels sent in to guard against the oncomming army and once dead disperse into blinding white spirits and ascend to heaven (mostly to stop players feeling ripped off for not being able to salvage their armour, weapons etc.)
The game will be in the same format as Diablo 2 gameplay-wise, the point and click element I believe is what made it so unique.
As you walk from one end of the fortress to the other you see lines of guards defending huge doorways while you, among many other soldiers, run to the front line, at first encountering small demons sent as cannon fodder for angels magic, and later encountering more of the higher ranking in the army (these can be unique monsters).
Way points and town portals are used as they are in Diablo 2 to make travelling back to the main fortress easier.
This all may sound very short for one act, but this is just a basic outline, To do this fully would include an act the size of one of the acts of Diablo 2 IF NOT LARGER, taking into consideration fighting in the fortresses dungeons, 1st level, second level and rooftop battlements over looking the plains of hell.
The act closes with a cinematic showing the over running of the castle, creatures crawl up the walls into the windows, the forstress itself almost look slike it is constructed from demons.
Cut to the safe area, The gateway seen earlier is now a huge blue swirling portal, men are running and jumping through, the head general commands men to run through. The huge doors leading to the room, all that stands between the small army of men and the limitless armies of hell are being barraged, held back by men barricading it with anything they can find, tables, chairs, dead bodies of both men and demons. Deckard and Tyreal look to each other to one side of the portal. "So, it looks like they have finally broken through. It won't be long now until they are at the very gates of heaven themselves." Said Decakrd Cain solemnly staring at the pulsating doors.
"You loose hope too soon Cain. There is still time to fight back, there are greater powers commanding all of this. We will perseveer through and fight back. And we will win. We can not lose." Replied Tyreal.
The final three figures of an old man, a mysterious hooded figure and a well built figure in high ranking armour walked through the portal shortly followed by a blinding supernova of blue light as it closed. The doors burts open sending dead bodies and splinters of wood across the room. In the doorway and army of monsters swarmed into the room, finding nothing, and above them all in the doorway outlined are two beaming red eyes that narrow and glow brightly with anger as the cinematic fades to black
