As the title says, I would like to try a mod that has a larger stash or shared stash capability. It should allow me to gamble any and all item types with the exception of crafted items. I would also like to be easy to set up and easy to go back to the latest patch for Battle.net play. Some other stuff would be nice too. Thank you for your help!

It's got a shared stash, and your normal stash (both of which are now endless, seriously, ENDLESS).
It's got new skills, and many familiar skills so the learning curve isn't massive.
However, if you do fuck up while you're learning, it has a handy respec feature, which can be used as much as you want, whenever you want. It really promotes experimentation, I love it.
Got new monsters/areas/bosses.
New items, and all new uniques. There are actually two types of uniques now. ES uniques, and LoD uniques. LoD uniques require you to find 3 "coupons", when transmuted, they will give you the corresponding unique. Eastern Sun uniques drop like Lord of Destruction uniques used to. Also, the Eastern Sun uniques are ALL new. So essentially, they've doubled the amount of uniques from LoD.
There are also all new sets.
New runewords, AND new runes. This works much like the LoD uniques do. There are now ES runewords, and LoD runewords. To get the LoD runes, you need to get the corresponding rune from ES, and a decal that when transmuted together, will yield you the LoD rune you want. So, once more, runes are basically doubled. And there are countless new runewords using all the new ES runes.
New cube recipes, of my god, are there ever a lot of them. There are these new things called dragon stones, that essentially let you mold your items into what you want them to be. It's like crafting, except you get to apply specific mods to your items. There are level caps in place, as well as stat caps as well to prevent you from over-buffing an item. So it's not overpowered.
Seriously, get Eastern Sun.
Now.

A lot of us play it, anyway. At least you'll have some familiar faces to help you on your way if you decide to play ES. Go look through the Official ES thread, and see what wonders await you.

Then Zy-El is probably where you'd want to look. I've never tried it out, but it rocks.
Also, have you actually played ES before? There is a big difference from looking at it, and actually playing. When i saw Median XL, I thought I would love it.
But, after playing, decided it was shitty.

Insane in a good way, I'd hope.
I haven't tried Zy-El, so I dunno about it.
But seriously, try ES. It's a great mod to start with. The skills are actually very similar to those in LoD, there are very few that have been changed.

If you're planning on installing a mod without screwing with your original files, then you're shit outta luck. ALL mods screw with the original files.
But, there is a way to make mods screw with a different set of original files.
Basically, you'll want to make a copy of your Diablo II folder, in your program files. Copy it to your documents/desktop/whatever.
Then, once you've got that copy, install Eastern Sun into THAT folder. This makes it so you can still play LoD, and ES/any mod you want.

I try that then. Not tonight though, tomorrow is as good as any.

Median kind of screwed up my Diablo file, even though I made a completely separate directory for it. I can't play 1.13 because of it.
ES has everything you asked for in the OP. It has a LOT of things to aim for after you beat the game, and you can always reset your stats/skills if you get bored of what you are playing at the time.
If anyone needs help with installing mods you can PM me.
Maybe I should create a guide to installing mods and having more than 1 mod running at the same time. I think the most I ever had installed at the same time was 10
Eastern Sun is one of the easier mods to install since it has the installer. The key to the install is to make sure that when you are running the installer that it is going to a subfolder of the main Diablo folder. By default it goes to where diablo likes to install the game in the first place. If you have it installed somewhere else then you need to point it to the correct location. To play you need to use the Eastern Sun launcher to play since it makes a backup of your current D2 folder and then inserts the 1.10 version of the files it needs and then runs the mod. When you are done with ES it will move those files back and should cause no issues with Battle Net. If you have 1.12 and have the downloaded version of the game you can still run it but it becomes more tricky since the mod needs a cd to pass the secure rom check to play since it is using the 1.10 version of the game.exe to play. At the main forum for Eastern Sun at d2mods.com we have a sticky with instructions. You can also PM me there as well (same name as here).
For Median I create a sub folder in the main D2 folder and add all the Dll's and other files I need and use a script launcher that is available from the keep. I am new here so I do not know if it is alright to post a link to get the launcher.
For Zy-El it is more tricky since you would need 1.09d version of Lords of Destruction to play. I can get more in depth if people are interested or you can PM me for help.
There is a misconception about Zy-El that it is hard. It is at first but your character can get very strong. Maybe not as strong as 1.10 mods due to damage caps of 83k. It is one of the mods that I know that you can create a cracked club into a weapon of mass destruction. The thing with Zy-El it takes time to play with dedication you can get a character to level 10k. We have a tourney going on at the moment at the main forum that you use no equipment and only charms. It is tough at first but as soon as you can do Meph runs it will become easier. Some of us are playing Hard Core. The thing to keep in mind is that Zy-El is the mod that has everything including Carmen Electra in it. I can get more in depth in Zy-El if people want.

if you like hybrid mods
go for es
if you like full conversion mods
go for mxl
if you like 1.13

I forgot to make OP in my font and color, it is fixed.

^^ applies to all mods
