I recently thought to do this while farming Siegebreaker on Inferno. The first time I did it I swapped all my gear out for MF gear, giving me a total of 299% MF (including 5 stack NV). I got 5 rares.
Each time since then, I have tried it with a total of 302% MF and have only gotten 2-3 rares each kill (as is normal with a 5 stack NV).
Has anyone else been doing this? How many rares do you normally get? Was the 5 rare drop just a bunch of luck?

Playing a Wizard. Looking for Demon Hunters to play with.
Even though Blizzard will not acknowledge it till the RMAH stuff has made them enough money, drop rates on rares in atleast Act 3 have gone down significantly. I went through 10 packs yesterday and received two or three rares. This is with only 175% MF ,but the same gear in Act 1 will net me 15 rares doing a butcher run.
Interesting. Although I'm referring more to the # of guaranteed rares that you see when killing a boss with 5 stacks of NV. Does significant MF on top of the 5 stack increase the # of guaranteed rares?
As mentioned, my first time swapping gear yielded 5 rares. This lead me to believe that the # of guaranteed rares with 5 stack NV + high MF was increased. However since then I have not had such luck...was it just luck?

No, it only guarantee's more magical items found. If you find more rare's, more power to you. I know butcher runs with 175 will get you three rare's every time. It is disappointing because act 3 is much more difficult and you get less. You do have a higher chance of getting an item that is actually worth something though.

So, its not you.. its Blizzard.
You know, if we were to jump back 10 million years in time, the odds of you being born exactly the way you are, doing the exact thing that you do, playing this exact game, are astronomically small.
I do this run every day, now been switching it up to Azmo and Cydea.
When I have full mf it's 326%. I switch right before Siege's death.
I've gotten 5 rares on a few occasions. Usually 3-4 tho.
I don't know what you guys are talking about nerfing the drops, I've been getting a bunch of rares!
From act 3, got 5 stacks before heading to Cydea. Killed 3 more elites.
Went through to Azmo.
Had a total of 14 rares. Most were garbage but two or three sold for a mil!
It seems to me they buffed them, AND they really ARE buffing them next patch.
I can't freakin' wait.

lolno.
Blizzard has not messed with drop rates. RNG is RNG. It sucks sometimes.
On topic, I have no clue if it works..I would do it but I am lazy. I know of ways to make it eaiser (like AutoHotKey) but I am too paranoid to use them
According to the 1.0.3 preview I think they said two are guaranteed right now at five stacks which they will be lowering to one but then increases rare spawns guaranteed by one to compensate.
It’s no secret that our goal for the end-game item hunt is players hunting monsters packs, building to five stacks of Nephalem Valor, and then killing a boss. While we’re seeing a lot of that occurring, what we’re missing is people feeling like it’s worthwhile to continue onward after killing a boss.
To help hit that goal we’re lowering the number of guaranteed Rare items on bosses when you have your full five stacks of Nephalem Valor from two guaranteed Rares to one guaranteed Rare (you still have a very good chance at multiple rares, it's just no longer guaranteed). In exchange, all champion and rare packs will now drop a bonus guaranteed Rare item when you have your full five stacks of Nephalem Valor. The change benefits players with more overall drops, and a reason to push to continue progressing.
Let's clear this up because there's WILD amounts of misinformation going on here.
Magic Find does -NOT- affect the amount of rares/loot you get from bosses (Siege, Azmo, Cydea, Diablo etc), amount of NV Stacks does. This has been tested and tried, so I don't know how so many people still think that MF affects the drops from them.
Speaking of misinformation....
Right now 5 NV stacks garuntee you two rares. Any rares you get beyond that is the luck of those magic drops upgrading to rare, which MF% absolutely does help with. Not to mention legendaries.
Well, the drop rate was ninja hotfix. I have 5 stacks NV and 200% MF, fight Izual but drop only blues. not totally guarentee 2 rares. i was fighting with full team. All also same, just blues.
Anyway, MF does show the diff on fighting those Elites n champions. so if you able to bring down those mobs into near dead and swap, you will be sure to get at least a rare.

Swapping MF gear at the end before kill definitely helps, you get better rolled items, fact. Tried and tested. RNG like has been stated is what it is, RNG, and what is your garbage could potentially be treasure to someone else. Doing azmo runs i will always get blues with 6 - 700 dps doing MF swap, as opposed to garbage around 2 - 300 if i don't. Rares are almost always higher rolled, and we get more rares when swapping MF, though that could just be subjective, so I feel like we get more rares when we MF swap.
The best way to MF swap if in a four man party is simply to have 3 people swap out to their MF gear, one person stays non MF'd, typically your tank or bait. make the kill, profit. Since MF is shared the tank gets a decent MF percentage and you dont wind up having wasted the time it took to kill them because you all got one shotted in your MF outfits <--- yeah this happens alot if everyone MF's at the same time, a good crew can do it, voice chat helps alot
Enemy has a 2% chance to drop magical (or better) item.
You have 100% MF.
Enemy now has a 4% chance to drop magical (or better) item. (This is a 100% improvement over the normal)
When enemy drops items, RNG roll is made. If it falls in the large section labeled "Magic" you get a blue item. The yellow section labeled "Rare" is much smaller. And smaller still is of course "Legendary/Set".
Nephalem Valor, currently anyways, ensures that a Boss enemy will always drop 2 rare items, with a 5-stack. Come 1.0.3 (possibly this Tuesday), that will be reduced to only 1, but all champion packs will also always drop 1 rare per kill at 5 stacks. These guaranteed drops are not really impacted by MF, except maybe in checking if they can be Legendary or not (and lets face it, almost always won't be).

I have yet to hear Blizzard state that MF affects the stats of items on top of the the items dropping. Stating that you get better quality items with higher MF can be just as equally tied to RNG as not, consider that even a single weapon has a DPS range that gets determined upon it dropping, they are not 100% fixed values. And that doesn't even factor in any traits from being magical. What you stated is not fact until there is official documentation that proves it in the game's code. It is merely what you believe to have seen.
EricGORe: In Diablo 2, from my understanding, magic find took the base item of a predetermined loot table, and gave you a higher chance of rolling a higher quality version of that item. In Diablo 3, this no longer seems to be the case and with loot tables being so vast now, magic find seems almost too arbitrary, it just doesn’t feel like it’s worth it. Could you explain exactly how magic find affects item drops in Diablo 3, as a lot of people seem to be unsure how the mechanic has changed from Diablo 2?
Jay Wilson: The mechanic is exactly the same as Diablo 2, and as you describe it hear. And the loot tables are not more vast than D2 because we don't allow items to drop below level 50 in Inferno.
Well, sometimes is that i dont believe Blizz alot. I get a lv47 Mojo in Inferno Act 3 and my friend get a burger king alike weapon in Inferno Pony level.

I've usually gotten 2 or 3 rares when I have about 250% mf with 5 stacks valor.
