It used the same "tile set" as the Tristram Cathedral dungeon including a specially made entry room. It was a static and specifically crafted dungeon especially for the demo, so yes it includes the look for Tristram Cathedral, but it's not a true piece of the game as you would play through it.
Perhaps explains why the statues and stuff wasn't very much polished..
I was kind of worried not so much that the level would be simple and less complicated, but that the Act would be incredibly short, it seems like the demo level was just a straight shot to the bosses pretty much.
I think there will be a lot more to it in the actual gameplay.

Remember it was A) all constructed specifically to show off shit (so everyone would be like "wow cool") and there were no boss fights, just like mini bosses, like Shenk, Nihaltuk (could never spell him), Rakinishu etc.... and these fights looked way more epic/scripted than the usual boss fights, so that makes me happy in the pants...
We need more bosses with higher rates to drop decent and less bosses with SUPER high rates to drop things... Otherwise 1-3 dudes will just get MF farmed over and over like D2

Totally agree with the drops.. also normal monsters should have some nice chance to drop stuff.
One day doing flayer all day with around 140MF almost every game dropped me a unique + bunch of rares It was quite nice because I was just running all the monsters in that area and not just 1 specific monster. Ofc there was special uniques like stormtree etc but yeah something like that would be fun as Karjalan said.
It kind of sucks, die hard players get lots and lots of drops but I can make a edited character in solo with like 400 MF and do all the bosses on /players 8 Hell mode a few times and get mostly blues/yellows.
Very cool post...got to take all the info we can get at this point. I think as we see more videos and screenshots the whole idea of a living breathing world will come together more. Honestly I gotta say that I think I like that idea a lot. He makes a good point that things can be very bland randomly generated; I mean I look at d2 and see that it's more or less rocks, grass, walls, etc....and I think about it now and think gee not really a whole lot of substance there. I just think it will be cool to go to some places and have specific areas...i dunno my opinion.
Any other popular MMO...existing proof that static outdoors areas doesn't lead to boredom...
Static outdoor areas does NOT equal linear if done correctly.
Yeah I wish in real life places would also be different every time I go outside, it's so boring to walk the same road every day.
Ofc if u play D3 a lot, you won't see much outdoors and between every gameplay session you think it looks different, when you have just forgotten how it looked like .)
Well anyways if the areas are huge there will be a lot of new things to find out even after the 4th character. I also hope they put many optional routes to get from A to B. Like you could run trough some annoying forest or hop into 5 levels of randomized dungeon and come out with loots in another area.
In D2 I didn't like much about the randomized areas. Act1 for example, thank god there was the roads you could follow and not blindly search for exit. It is quite easy to run to outer cloister but after that when the jails and catacombs start, it can be quite painfull.. no wonder many ask for cata 2 wp.

Oh, you were trying to be witty and failed. You forgot every other successful MMO let's you choose what you want to do. The ones that always fail force you into a linear path you have to follow. These choices can be subtle, such as side quests in odd places for those that explore, or obvious such as choosing town/allegiances. You can decide to be hated with a certain group or renowned by another.
Even in D2 there was some amount of static world. But the differing maps helped vary the gameplay and, unless you were being rushed, supported exploration.
Q u o t e:
-I've read comments from different developers that the remaining character classes will be entirely new, others indicating there are other classes that have been re-envisioned and revamped. Which is it? Fans are commonly assuming at least the pure caster like the Sorc will return. The Lore guys have also made a point of emphasizing the look and attitude of "veterans" from D2.
Hey, are you kind of kid who reads the last page of a mystery first? Who pesters the magician to tell you his tricks? Who sneaks downstairs to peek at his Christmas presents? Nooooo... of course you're not. That's why I'm noooot goooonna teeeeell yoooou!
I'm really surprised no one else has picked up on this. First, it's a quote from The Last Starfighter (man, it's been forever since I've seen that movie--I think I just dated myself). Also, note that Bashok mentions a "magician" and someone who "sneaks." I'm about 95% sure that I'm just reading too much into the quote, but it's still fun to speculate.
This is essentially what Act 1, 2, and 4 were. You never saw anything that was exactly eye catching or something that made you stop and think "wow".
well we can definitely expect to stop a few times in Diablo 3 and think "WoW"
lol xD haha! just had to crack that WoW joke.
on topic: those were needed clarifications, thank you for bringing it to our attention.
what we really need though, is some new info from blizz... anything... even a new monster would be good.
No, I wasn't trying to be witty at all, merely pointing out how yet another one of your hyperbolic statements of doom has no grounding in reality what so ever...
Every other successful MMO lets you choose what you do? You mean lets you choose to do a quest in place A or B, both of which end up using the same tileset, but are at different locations within "The Scary Plains of Death"...
D3 will have random quests, whats to say there won't be sidequests in random places?
As for static outdoors between towns...yep, most successful MMO's have those...and they don't change...lemme check, yeah WoW is still successful, even though it has static outdoor areas...
Hyperbole, you keep using that word but I don't think you know what it means. I've seen you use it right one time.
It's called the illusion of choice, maybe you should take Psychology classes or Government classes.
I also admitted there has to be some amount of static environment or it becomes unrealistic. However, they still give the illusion of choice and a feeling that you are impacting the game world.
LoTRO, you're not impacting anything. You are forced to do the same thing as everyone else and nothing you ever do leaves any impact. You can see some examples of this in WoW (the Zalazane quest) and it's often joked about, but when you're entire game works like that then it becomes boring and stagnant.
Just because I bring up valid concerns doesn't mean you can label it a hyperbole. In your world any complaint is a hyperbole.
Maybe that's the point of what he was saying. There may not be as many in the real levels thereby giving those that want it their much darker environment.

The environments were amazing, it was just too bad you always did and saw the same thing over and over.

Just cause the environment is static doesn't mean that the shrines, monsters, uniques, chests etc will be....
It's a visual thing. Have a little faith before jumping ship

I really hope they release info on a new class at the one month mark.

Tilesets are part of the game though, specifically the cathedral. This saddens me.
Well, tileset != lights. Can be darker in term of light (I don't want to complain about colors here) since catacombs don't have windows hehe.
Who the hell is lighting them all?
