While I do see that guns could very well be made in some part of Sanctuary, the problem still lies in rifling.
Rifling was an incredible, and simple, achievement that has changed the way we fight battles. If they had developed the process for rifling already, we wouldn't have been using swords and magic to fight the last two games.
I don't see guns coming into this game as a strategic asset like most of you either, but what I do see them doing is possibly noticing this thread and thinking about doing an easter egg gun that shoots fire works into the air or even dialogue to taunt us.
I'm simply trying to rationalize the possability of them being in the game, i'm not suggesting they will infact be in the game.

The thing is, sanctuary is a world of magic, right? Archers can use magic to shoot arrows that, quite literally, hunt down enemies. Who is to say that you couldn't use some form of magic to help keep the bullet on the "straight and narrow"?

Rifling didn't quite pick up until 300-ish years later, from the time period of this game (early to middle 11th century) and between those 2 periods what we know now as a gun was simply an anti-armor weapon much in the same way that Rocket Infantry are anti tank, same concept.
(Of course cannons changed everything in regards to siege warfare and virtually rendered all other siege weapons innert. Even bows and crossbows were rendered useless when defending a castle since the cannons could be well out of range)
but I know what you mean and you are right, but if they did bring guns in they would kind of break down the fourth wall.
We have hammers in the game correct? Hammers are used the same as swords, correct? Hammers were an anti-armour weapon in the middle ages (Well, war hammers were...), as it would break the armour. Hammers are not used exclusively for armour in D2 though, are they?

Yeah, don't forget Axes to, it's all been a progression of a striving for an answer to armor.
From axes and hammers to shields, it is no different, especially with demons about, them and their longevity.

Well the type of guns I'm thinking of are a lot more basic. No real aiming like you would a rifle.
Take for example this picture, but imagine it on a smaller scale that you could carry.
Pretty much hold it low because it's going to have quite a bit of kick and aim the best you can.
Something like this:
Doesn't seem so effective but I could see them in the game somewhere. Big siege cannons would of course come first, though they'd still probably be very basic as well.

I question the practicality of fighting a horde of skeletons with a muzzle loader...
Actuallly blunt weapons work better on skeletons that's why clubs have a bonus to undead.
OH the post from daemaro sparked me an idea... If there is a huge battle scene where a castle is involved. They shud have those huge whipping things. They like have a huge rock. They cut the rope and it spins and throws the rock flying. Like in Lord of the rings.
.............CATAPULTS. finally it came to me. LOL

And loading a crossbow would be any easier?
It's a fantasy world, loading doesn't take forever with crossbows or guns like it does in real life.

Do you know what the attack speed would be on that thing?
Do you know the realistic attack speed of a bow? Or a crossbow? It isn't 0.2...
(Changed your color so I could see it. Bright green on tan...not so friendly... Still green though...)
But crossbows have a long reloading time also compared to other weapons, around 30 seconds and the amazon seems to shoot that just fine.
All you have to do is insert the bolt, cock, and fire. And with some skill one could do it quite fast. With a muzzle loader there are five time consuming steps. Primer charge, main propellant charge, wadding, projectile, wadding. You would have to ramrod 4 times and set the primer charge before you could fire. No amount of skill would allow you to fire quick enough to fight off an onslaught of quick demons. Plus the main advantage of a gun would be lost because of the top-down view (which is range).

Whoa whoa.
Crossbows weren't like they are nowadays.
These crossbows required you to put the bolt in and usually either had a foot hold in order to pull the string back or a crank.
And with hand cannons I'm pretty sure all you'd do is pour in the right amount of powder drop in the ball and light it.

Not to mention grabbing the string and resetting the trigger. Lots of energy is wasted, the steps for the gun were usually around your waist or on the gun itself.
My point is that a gun would do relatively no damage to some of the opponents in the game. Why shoot a bullet when you have an exploding bolt?
They could make it so it doesn't shoot balls, it could be a handcannon that fires those potions, or a version of the potions that goes further and more directly.
Shelledface if your not going to seriously take part of the discussion please stop posting in the thread.

Anything that can be created will. No matter how weak it is.
Proof of this is in in throwing potions.
The people of sanctuary had nearly no reason to create them, they do very little damage, but people still created them.
Anyway why couldn't the bullets have magic properties also?
its kinda expensive stuff u sure u can afford it?:offtopic: i thought the catapult was a good idea :(..
