This is only true because diablo 2 is a dead game, noone plays it, noone cares about it.
Back when diablo had millions of users logged on, PKer's ruled supreme and were almost in every 2nd game. and once the users started quitting the game and finding new ones, the pkers left too. there was just not enough people left to kill.
i've tried playing diablo again since i quit, but with such a small community, its just boring. i imagine with diablo 3 and the users that will log on for it, pker's and griefers will have a much easier time doing what they do best, unless blizzard makes diablo 3 a lets hold hands and help decard find some kiddies to show his cane.
Point is they were never able to kill.. i've been hostiled many times and just to tease and I don't mean now but even before.
1 time i got killed but I consider it more of a duel than pk since this guy had been following my nec(60) long time with lance baba (77) so I finally got bored and tried to IM bonewall him to death but I lagged and the guy was already next to me.
In 1.09 this same guy with mace barb hostiled my s/s and we had long duel in flayer .. it seemed so pointless since neither of us were any close getting other one down so I just portaled town and said "sigh i'm getting sleepy already"
I can admit those were exciting times but still boring, best way to kill someone seemed to be tp trap or wp trap (extra strong extra fast hephasto river wp was kinda deadly). They should make the hostile thing so that you could activate it while not in town but it would have 10 seconds time before you could attack this way you would have some chance. Add this with the system that you can't immidiately quit from game.. should be like 10 seconds before your player leaves game when you exit somewhere not in town.
About leaving the game.. I hardly ever did. I just tricked the dumb pk'ers I portaled town and went to some very weird area to exp where they hardly could figure out. Also in the old days when there were still a lot of friends around, there was many times some PKK online and just asked him to the game and many times pker left then Nowadays ur on your own since all the friends have quit mostly .)
Oh yeah, your right. I suck because i got tppk'd (While fighting Baal pretty much solo) by some idiot who couldn't fight me like a real person. I love HC, i have played it my whole D2 career. There is just so much more achievement.
And i actually dont believe you, unless you play in your little private freind-list bubble.
dying is part of it, it does happen. but PVE induced deaths are really rare once you get geared, have a good group of friends, and a stable internet connection. nothing was worse than your net dropping out, and coming back online to not even see a ghost, just an empty character screen.

i considered myself pretty decent at the game, not the best obviously, but i did the best i could. and you can check that stuff there, for the 1 character i had at like 100k xp off 99 by the roll over into season 2. i had 2 characters at 96 that died....
one died to iron maiden(lol)
other died to tppk, and the guy that killed me i actually befriended later on and played with him for the next 6 months.
Even being a victim to tppk while being competitive on Hardcore ladder, this didn't make me resent tppk, or even dying. sure i was angry at the time. but shit someone got the better of me. it made me a better player, and overall im glad of it
Well it seems to me that he is saying that there wont be any toggling on hostlie, and killing people and takeing loot and the other things he addressed. I really do hope that they keep pvp, i really loved testing my build and my char vs other people and just showing them up. Also with the new combat flow or what not it seems really simple to put combos together.
EX- Barb you could charge in... with that one move then use that area stun and get to pounding with some WW or that slam move. ( sorry i dont no the full names)
Does the fighting ever stop!? With our without PKing, the game will still be great! If you guys are really worried about there not being the "Player Kill" option available, go play AGE OF CONAN! As for the others, just avoid the Player Killers!

dude, the only reason im playing AoC right now, is because diablo 2 is so out dated. and age of conan has nothing on PKing in diablo. killing someone and making them stay dead forever is just about the best feeling one can get from a game series like diablo. its much better than say doing 10,000 mephisto runs for an account full of mule characters
Meh, I guess I'm the only one here who liked being PKed. I liked the thrill of the hunt when you evaded him, and the feeling of triumph when you finally brought him down.
PK was great fun for me, i've never killed a single person though and i've played only on HC. It is about fear and adrenaline all the time, about right decisions and proper interaction with other players, about feeling of pleasure finishing your game session with realising that you managed to survive with your main characters today. And should i say, that the friendship was so much more to it in such environment, the bond are so much stronger.
PK makes it possible to live in the game! And the guys that are making the game right now, they simply do not know it.
Pk can be fun...I like going group vs group pk.
It's so intense, My guild in other mmo started a war with 3 other guilds you know 3 guilds on ours, It was tons of fun, than the next morning I thought I got kicked from the guild only to found out it got disbanded by the mods cause we made too much commotion hehe
Oh I've gone completely OT sorry, the memory took me by surprise :X
If you want pvp you probably better off playing Age of Conan or Guild Wars anyway where pvp is the main focus.
the main focus of hardcore, is dead is dead.... forever. dead from a dirty tp. dead from a pk. dead from lag. blizzard needs to keep their options open for ways to make people die. if we all had a choice about dying in hardcore. then noone would choose death, they would just level up and petition a GM every time they died to lag. or stupidity asking for a roll back on their account.

You never played D1 didnt you? Wait... did you even played D2?
Without pvp diablo wouldnt have half the popularity it has this days, Blizzard knows this, and thats why they are going with possibility of making it an e-game, just like wow.
All of those ball/meph/pindle runs... all of them where for the sole purpose of leveling up and get godly crap, for what? FOR DUELS!!!!! Saying something like ''pvp do not belong in diablo'' is one of the most... aahh forget it.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
the d2 way of doing things was fine, you had to go to town to go hostile and others were informed, how is that not good enough, not only that, but you can put a level limit, come on, it should carry on to d3.
Diablo and Diablo II are cooperative games, but the games give players the freedom to engage other players without their consent; it's been that way for more or less a decade. When you consider the history of Diablo and its mechanics, then you will realize that spontaneous PVP was the aim of the original Diablo team -- as opposed to the kind of PVP found in World of Warcraft; and it's that freedom that gives Diablo its edge and excitement. What will Diablo be without PKing? Another fucking carebear cooperative game; that's what. It's not enough that this new Diablo team had to screw with the art direction and the music, but now the hostility button. "Oh, hello there sir! Beautiful today, isn't it? Oh kind sir, would you be interested in a duel?" The market is saturated with this pussy ORPG/MMORPG nonsense, so where do some of you get the audacity to pressure Blizzard into changing a ten-year old franchise? it's narcissistic and greedy.
Anyway Bashiok commented so it's not just because of pressure from people. He and other blizzard members don't like PKing also.
Anyway this is beside the point. This thread was just to inform us all, so let's not make it into another PK/Non-PK thread or it will surely get closed.

Bashiok is a World of Warcraft carebear, so it doesn't surprise me that he doesn't like PKing. He probably can't stomach playing on a World of Warcraft PVP server, either.
There is pressure being distributed onto Blizzard by a community of gamers who want PKing done away with. What's particularly annoying about this group is that I don't think they're even in the majority, but the minority; that's what I've gathered from the Diablo III official forum and Diabloii.net forum, anyway.

Well that's your opinion. If the majority want PKing they will most likely get it when Blizzard realizes this and loses sales and fanbase.

Sentence of the year:
"WoW, It's like a disease"
I think PvP has it's place, just don't see the point in PKing. Maybe in hardcore but besides that I don't see the need or point.
