Edit: Let me clarify here, I DO NOT WANT BINDING - this is an idea that I propose if Blizzard decides binding is REQUIRED
There is a lot of talk about items needing to bind on pick-up or on equip to help stabalize te economy and make gold important.
I did not like the D2 system of trading, but as a wow player I am sick of a bind system, and I think it hurts game play in many ways. My idea is this:
BtA: Bind to Account
This would happen when you pick-up an incredibly uber item, or when you equip a higher level item. I would just have this effect the top tier items, maybe the top 5% of the uniques sets whatever they put in. This way, you could swap it between different characters of your own, you could mule it or do something else with it. This would allow reusing an item, and still keep the economy "stable" and using the currency that Blizzard implements.
No binding.
Never on any item for any reason. The Diablo economy is too heavy on item trading... Anything that binds on pick-up just becomes useless. Especially with the "What You See Is Your's" loot system.
I don't think binding is the solution. Instead, go the route that HG:L has currency wise. Creat more gold sinks.
To do this:
-Add expensive, but USEFUL items that can be bought from vendors.
-Allow items to be "imbued" more frequently, through the use of gold. The amount of gold used would be based on item level and quality (magic, rare, uniq)
-Add a consignment shop based on gold
-Lower the amount of gold able to be to aquired in a span of time (lower than D2)
-Add a respec option that requires gold to utilize. The amount needed would be based on level.
-Keep the mercenary system of needing gold to revive them
I know, "HGL was horrible" yada yada. The game actually has a plethora of amazing ideas, the game just suffered from being rushed, poorly coded, and underfunded.
You start with nothing, but you can get lucky and find great stuff that you can use and trade. bind on equip, pick or to accounts would ruin that. You find a soj any class can use it, you can use it a for a while so you're stronger and can more easily level/mf but once you get enough gear you're free to trade to someone else.
Playing diablo isn't about the economy, like I said the other thread this isn't "Capitalism and Economy the game from the creators of the massive online hit World of Warcraft".
It's Diablo 3 which is the sequel of diablo 2 which was based on people freely trading items and players creating the economy instead of one created by blizzard.
Bind on pick, equip and other similar stuff exists to curve selling items for money and force people to do existing content such as raiding insert raid boss. Not curve or help the economy of the game.
If anything this will hurt you because you'll be able to get great gear this way?
Blizzard will save you from yourself don't worry there won't be any bind on equip or pick up in diablo 3.
I have to agree somewhat about what the originol post is about. As a WoW player for a grand total of 6 months before i quit i realized how stupid Binding is. I never played on Battle.net but on WoW it was mainly a quest for gold. Because gold=items. But Diablo 3 isnt like that. Items need to be able to be traded for other items.
I mean especially with the fact that on the Gameplay Video they said their would be a lot more Char specific items, that would mean that being able to trade item for item would be even more valuable to the economy. Because that would mean that lets say I was a druid (pray that druids are in D3) I would be able to trade some barb a peice of crap barb item, for a good druid item. Instead of having my goods lost in the sinkpit of some random NPC.
Thats my opinion.
