ight now we support the same number as Diablo 2, which is 8. We can actually do more if we wanted -- it's not a technical problem, it's a gameplay issue. What we've found is that the game is actually better with a smaller number of players, even smaller than 8. When we play, we have the most fun with about 4 -- and that's because of the camera and the nature of the game. So we're gearing towards that and really trying to encourage that. But whether we enforce it or not [with a strict limit on the number of players] ... it's hard for us to say at this point.
Will you get the same number of monsters with 8 players as you would with 4 players?
We don't change the number of monsters that spawn. That way we can make sure that even if you're playing by yourself, you can still have a crazy giant pile of monsters to fight. So no, we play with difficulty in other ways.
Are you serious? This will destroy everything...team battles, pub pk, everything!
Seriously, I would be ok with 4, I doubt PKing will be possible like it is in D2... They will most likely have a setting for when you create your game if you want PvP or not.. and most likely.. arena type stuff with a higher player count.. So a soft 4 limit isn't that big of a deal.. TO ME

4 person to a server? Don't tell me this is battle.net 2.0!!!
Diablo 3 works like well, Diablo 1. Large realms, small games, 4 players max.
Diablo II worked the same but had double the players in games.
I don't mind 4 players, As with the exception of Trist/Trav/Meph/Baal runs, which is actually the majority of my gaming, I am not in a 8 player party, heck not even a 5 or 6 man team.
I find myself in much smaller 3-4 man teams.
Large groups are fine for wide open areas, but I hate large groups in closed spaced, Maggot Lair, Arcane Sanctuary, everyone blocking each others paths and getting people killed pointlessly, I do not want to see that in D3, while a large part ofthat is largely the fault of the terrain, (one more square and you would be able to run passed that jackass standing there), I also thing in some instances (not wow instances!) large groups actually hinder you more than help you.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
If the game content and areas are huge .. let there be 12 players per game but limit the size of the party to 4 maybe? Or if u make it bigger give it a huge exp penalty. This would give more feeling of the game world and people in there but at the same time wouldn't overcrowd some areas. This would also give a nice PVP situation when 2 groups are fighting for the exping area. Altho it would be nice that there wasn't just THE 1 endgame area but several so there could always be several high level teams in one game doing different areas.
I liked the Pre-LOD way.. 8 players in game most of the time playing in a tight 2-4 man groups since there was exp penalty when you were in too huge groups. People used the areas in the game more widely there was generally some top players 85+ in CS and 80+ people doing city of damned and river of flame, 70+ in flayer outer steppes. Now they are all from 50-90 in one area.
The new way was just overkill .. everyone knows 8 player in group in one area is just massive spam and enemy has no chance whatsoever, this also gave nice chance for low level leechers to join and just hang around at the backgrounds. Some might say its nice team play but most of the time you don't know anyone of the 7 other players which makes it kinda useless statement. In the old way you got to know some 3 players very good and those were the guys you did a lot of runs together.
I was hoping for larger based parties fighting on hordes of demons together. However, smaller groups can be more fun. Kinda weak though, consider ive got 5 friends that want to play D3
I agree that 4 players is too few. The very least I would like to see in games is 6. I was actually hoping they would increase the game size to 10 or so but it doesn't look like that will happen.
Before you create your game/server you should set how many you wish to allo into the game. Min being 1 and Max being 12 (12 seems like it would be fun to do thing such as easter egg levels where mobs are thick)
but this is my opinion
they should do the same thing as in D2. more people in the game = +monster strength +drops and +exp

Hmm, why argue when you can contribute. Im pretty dang smart for a 13 year old and proud of it. Anyone wanna talk to me about any ideas they have or one of my few threads, just send me a private meassage. -Chance
They should just let you create a special game other than for RP. Lets have an arena with 20+ players with all kinds of game settings to spice it up. We don't need a bunch of pkpkpkpk games with 4 man caped out just to lag up the server.
