Andariel, the Maiden of Anguish (also known as Demon Queen, slain in D2, act I)
A fairly powerful enemy using mainly poison based attacks. She uses homing poison arrows, poison spray and the weak claws on her back in hand-to-hand battle. She is found deep in the catacombs of the monastery behind a large set of wooden doors, surrounded by her minions.
Duriel, the Lord of Pain (slain in D2, act II)
A very fast and very aggressive enemy. His pure physical strength can easily overwhelm an unprepared player. He attacks using his large claws, and may also freeze the player, making it even easier for him to quickly dispense of opposition. He is found in the true Tomb of Tal Rasha by placing the Horadric Staff, a weapon obtained by combining certain items in a Horadric cube, into an orifice.
Azmodan, the Lord of Sin (Has not yet appeared.)
Belial, the Lord of Lies (Has not yet appeared.)
**Thasador's Note** Is Blizzard going to keep these too labeled like this or are they going to have a role?
The "Prime evils"
Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred (eldest of three brothers, slain in D2, act III)
He uses several powerful lightning attacks and does have a weak melee attack. He also uses a chilling orb that does massive amounts of damage, along with a poison cloud that he releases. He can be found in his lair in the temple city of Travincal in Kurast by destroying the Compelling Orb that locked him in his lair. You must use a unique flail called Khalim's Will to destroy it.
Diablo, the Lord of Terror (Devil, in Spanish, slain in D2, act IV)
The Leader of the Three. He uses the fire element. He is a powerful boss, especially in later difficulties. His attacks include: Lightning Inferno, Fire Nova, Firestorm, Bone Prison, Cold Touch, and a charge-like melee attack. He appears after activating the five hell seals and defeating their protectors, the Lord De Seis (Unique Oblivion Knight), Infector of Souls (Unique Venom Lord) and Grand Vizier of Chaos (Unique Doom Caster.)
Baal, the Lord of Destruction (slain in D2 Expansion: Lord of Destruction, act V)
He is found in the Worldstone Keep. After destroying the five swarms of his minions, he'll walk into the portal to Worldstone Chamber, the battleground. He uses fire strikes and a cold attack, the latter of which causes a severe knock back, as well as freezing. He also summons a copy of himself, capable of using all of his attacks, only adding to the troubles of anyone attempting to slay the Lord of Destruction.
yes Lucion is her brother, what happened to him on the other hand would be a spoiler...
@Thasador? i didnt know she fell in love with big D lol...

In the new Diablo novel, The Sin War, it is revealed that Mephisto had two children: a son, Lucion, and a daughter, Lilith.
------------------------------------
Azmodan, Lord of Sin, and Belial, Lord of Lies: Azmodan joined with his brother Belial during the Sin War to overthrow the Prime Evils, who they believed were unwilling to continue the war with Heaven. Rallying Hell's legions behind them, Azmodan and Belial overthrew Diablo, Mephisto and Baal and banished them to the mortal realm, believing that if the angels were focused on battling the Prime Evils in the mortal realm, the Gates of Heaven would be wide open. Once the Prime Evils were gone, Azmodan and Belial argued over who had the greater authority, and thus their alliance fragmented and a civil war broke out in Hell. Azmodan's and Belial's fates are unknown. In the first Diablo novel, Legacy Of Blood, Belial is referred to as the Lord of Hell, though this may just be exaggeration on the part of the speaker, a demon named Xazax.
------------------------------------ Church of Satan
The Church of Satan incorporates Lilith in her kabbalistic Zohar role as the wife of Samael (Satan). Here, she is featured in the symbol of the church, the Baphomet sigil.
I couldn't find where it says Lilith was in love with Diablo...but as depicted above..."Lilith in her kabbalistic Zohar role as the wife of Samael (Satan)." Satan in our sanctuary is known as Diablo.
------------------------------------
Many facts in our sanctuary are from actual history. Tyreal is a true name as a fallen angel. Mephisto or Mephistopheles is a demon...the same with Baal. Look below
Lilith, a female demon important in Judaism, does not count in Christian demonology. However, the newer generation of demonologists (and some modern exorcists/deliverance counsellors) recognize Lilith as a general demon, the argument being that if other Judaic demons exist in Christian demonology, so should Lilith as well, introducing her as the wife of Samael, and as a princess and queen of Hell.
------------------------------------
Lucifer, Beelzebub and Satan, were originally one Devil who were transmogrified into three different characters by demonology and the Devil remained as such. Beelzebub was a separate entity in Judaism, later appearing as a fallen angel, and Satan is the leader of fallen angels: while Lucifer was originally an unnamed angel, the one who talked Satan into joining him in the rebellion. Whether all three (as well as other names such as Baal) are considered the same being or different depends on opinion.

lol ime confused, what are you trying to show me, all these religion mythologies and figuires are not neccerily Diablo, so regardless of lilith being a character in religion mythology. Ofcourse Diablo means Devil but "the Devil" ime not so sure about although he probably is, nothing states this for sure. I think Blizzard need to show some true Diablo power than the feeble weakened post-bannishment version out of the games, we need to see some truly monstrous Satanic Diablo laying Angels across a battlefield in bloodied piles..anyway..
Lilith going out with Diabli is unlikely to happen, i mean can Diablo even love?
Well, like I said before I couldnt find the site that told me that Lilith is Diablo's lover. And what I was pointing out with all the demonology is that Blizz makes most of their characters from real time events/beliefs.
In bold: I think that would make D3 the best game ever...depicting a scene of dead angles and blood over a desolated area in game.

Azmodan and Belial should make an appearance in Diablo III. With Diablo, Mephisto and Baal destroyed in the mortal realm along with the rest of the lesser evils, they should appear. Maybe come to the mortal realm and ressurect the three.

Hero of the Trojan War, son of Telamon, thus called the Telamonian Ajax, also called Ajax the Greater. In the Iliad he is represented as a gigantic man, slow of thought and speech, but quick in battle and always showing courage. He led the troops of Salamis against Troy and was one of the foremost Greek warriors, fighting both Hector and Odysseus to draws.
the 3 primes dont really need resurrection because their not truly dead, their just banished, with the worldstone destroyed however the world is open to both angel and demon eyes and is going to be flooded, possibly the prime evils will take revenge, but certainly Belial and Azmodon are going to be in a Diablo game eventually , likely the next one.
That is right! I forgot. The Worldstone is what kept Heaven and Hell spilling into our world.
But why didnt hell and heaven spill fourth once Tyreal smashed the World stone. Maybe it takes awhile for that to happen because I remember a few NPC's being mad at you for destroying the world stone...or mad at Tyreal.
Well, Baal was already poised to spill hell into the mortal realm when he corrupted the World Stone. So Tyreal smashing the World Stone allows Heaven to come in now too. Though it is part of Heaven's code that angels are not to interfere with the mortal realm. Hmmm. Angels that dont listen to Heavens command are banished forever and are known as Fallen Angels. Maybe the angels of Heaven will be too bond to moral judgement and forget Heaven's code to save the mortals from Hell spilling through.

I heard somewhere that andariel is Liliths daughter? True or False?
And, if Mephisto has Lilith as a daughter, and Diablo is in love with her, seeing as meph and D are brothers doesnt that lead to some kind of wicked demon incest or something?

And, if Mephisto has Lilith as a daughter, and Diablo is in love with her, seeing as meph and D are brothers doesnt that lead to some kind of wicked demon incest or something?
These questions always confused me...
Who did Lilith get it on with to give birth to Andariel? Inarius? She isn't half angel is she?
Who did Mephisto get it on with to give birth to Lilith and Lucion, and if Lilith went off with Inarius, had demon-angel sex and then somehow created Sanctuary and the Nephilim which later turned to Humans then is Mephisto pissed at Lilith for being a whore?
Do demons even need to have sex to give birth?
Maybe in the Diablo 3 manual book there will be a massive family tree demonology page.

it was never said the Prime evils were brothers in the conventional sense was it it? you know like say Cain and Abel, they seem more like brothers in arms, or rather brothers of evil. like a brotherhood, like the Knights Templar. they can each other brother, but arent truly brothers.
it would depend on the species of demon, as to whether or not they would have sex, some demons reproduce asexually, or by mutation, or whats the word, uh what ever it it is they reproduce by splitting into multiple demons, others are simply created out of the swirling chaos.
but to get back on topic, yes i would like to see Belial and Azmodan, and their vast armies of Hell.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Are any physical descriptions or descriptions of their specific powers given about Azmodan or Belial in the novels lore?

How would someone actually kill a prime evil? It just seems like a never ending cycle of banishment.
Now that theyre banished and the soulstones are destroyed the prime evils dont actually have a physical form in the mortal realm, without being able to possess someone through a soul stone they cant take physical form in the mortal realm, right? but they can appear how they want to when banished to hell.
So to kill a major evil you would have to banish them to hell, then travel into hell and defeat them in their purest form (no soulstones, no possession) ?

Angels that dont listen to Heavens command are banished forever and are known as Fallen Angels.
I know Izual is a fallen angel, and Inarius is probably a fallen angel, but is Tyrael a fallen angel or just an angel who seems to always try and push the boundaries of what hes allowed to do.
She congealed and came alive in a gutter somewhere after a back street abortion, Mephisto didnt want to pay child support.
If Andariel is a Great evil and Lilith isnt then maybe Andariel can own Lilith in a fight? Because it seems as more and more lore gets revealed that there is actually many many demons, but only 7 make it into "great evil" status, thus meaning they must be the strongest of them all.
Edit- I never really got how the physical manifestation works, i mean, how can baal be in tal rashas body and inside a soul stone at the same time? Baal goes after marius to get the soul stone back for what reason? his soul should of stayed behind inside of Tal rashas body when Marius pulled it out thus making that perticular soul stone useless anyway? Maybe im just confusing myself because im really really tired
Edit2- And how the hell did Andariel and Duriel take a physical form upon the mortal realm without actually possessing a host through the soul stone?

Baal's demonic spirit was trapped inside the yellow soulstone. Tal Rasha, a great mage, volunteered to ensnare his soulstone in his chest and forever keep the evil taint within him. Tyreal bound him to an enchanted stone and sealed him away in one of the 7 tombs.
Once Marius released the soulstone from Tal Rasha, Marius fled with it. Baal did stay within Tal Rasha and engaged Tyreal. You never see Tyreal win over Tal Rasha/Baal. Actually he was struggling as Tal Rasha seemed to have the upper hand. Then that was the end of the that clip.

If you remember on how Diablo first claimed his possession in the Diablo Lore? I think it was King Leoric's son was drawn into the catacombs by the Bishop Lazarus. Lazarus was already tainted by Diablo's presence (before he became physical) When Lazarus completed his mission to lead King Leoric's son down into the catacombs...Diablo the Lord of Terror sent out his plague to fill the boy with terror and distraught. After the boy was fully tainted aka possessed then Diablo took his form.

Diablo spreading terror to the point where he becomes powerful with all the fear then he can posses someone.
Mephisto spreading hatred to all the humans to the point where he becomes powerful with all the hatred then he can posses someone
Baal spreading pure destructive feelings in humans til he becomes powerful with all the chaos then he can posses someone?
Sounds a little bit too Freddy Cruger to me.
