dude.. macs need drivers. they're just already installed. (i think? lol) hey guess what, we have programs included too. but we didn't have to pay for them. PC (assuming its personal computer, not microsoft controlled computer). Linux, and all its programs, drivers, features galore are free. movie cutting, free. movie cutting is also included in WINDOWS .... its not that amazing. and just because they call it "imovie" doesn't make it superiour.
there is even a shortcut for Windowed Mode.
what? if i remember correctly, all we have to do is press the middle button on the top right. In my entire PC experience, my pc has only crashed when i was fuckign around with it. the last 6-12 months it hasn't crashed ONCE. even during/after installing linux. Having the advantage of no spyware and viruses doesnt apply. linux doesn't have to worry about that either (for the most part)
No MijnWraak, that's an iMac. my MacPro is a tower. Nice sexy aluminum beast.
Yes, you can swap out the processors.
And yes, there's more than enough power. That argument is just silly.
And Aussensaiter, I don't know what Mac you have, but mine can do even the hardest of hardcore games. Doom 3, Quake 4, Half-Life 2, etc.
And actually, the no viruses/no spyware/no adware argument does hold water. There have actually been some viruses and worms and whatnot written, but not only have they failed to do anything, but the Unix foundation gives the Mac a rock-solid foundation.

macpro is pretty much a PC with linux. i really think all these mac commercials are imac, making the mac vs pc arguments useless. because now you can jsut say "no its macpro" its not even what apple uses to advertise mac...
Uh...what? How is MacPro a PC with Linux? It uses the same OS X and Unix-based architecture. Just like all of the Macs. It's not different software insdie, just different hardware.
And of course all of the Mac commercials have MacBooks and iMacs. Those are more consumer friendly. If you want Pro stuff, Apple has that too. Like the MacBook Pro and the MacPro.
Please do at least a LITTLE bit of research before you post some blatantly unfounded reply.
Yeah but you have tto install drivers, but MacOs is still smaller on disk than Windows. And the programs are also free on Mac. But on Windows I havent seen a free video cut software, and not in that dimensions, every app works hand in hand with each other. You can make Videos, and with one click they are uploaded to ebay. You don't have that much features on windows, and they don't work hand in hand. On Mac everything works fine. And also the boot time I stopped was 10 seconds. I wonder what Windows PC could do that, I guess only waiting for the Screen with the Logo takes longer.
P.s. I never questioned Linux, it's great. But nobody should be so ignorant and say Windows is better than everything else.
wait a minute, you dont think people should say windows is better, you say thats ignorant. but after explaining why mac is better!! btw, you can change windows for the logo to take less.

were saying pc. not windows. mac = imac IMO. but anyways, windows apps do work hand in hand. its called "files" Make a video, save it as a mpeg and upload to 'ebay' w/e floats your boat. it all works. "on mac everything works fine" how about, on my computer, everything works fine. I can counter any attack you make on my computer with a logical reassurance as to why my Linux PC is just as good as a mac with a shit O/S
If you want Pro stuff, Apple has that too.
we're talking macs from apple. not macPROS. apple can go ahead and copy the market after realizing not everyone wants a MAC. but thats not the question. frankly, i forget the question. but w/e

i could name a lot more windows 'features' that macs can't do.
I never said it wasn't more simple than it. And saving has its ups. just taking 2 extra seconds keeps a copy of the file. and then you can upload it to as many websites as you want. I didn't judge mac for what it isn't, if that is even possible...
I'm a Mac user. If you want a gaming platform then go buy a top of the line PC. Simple. Don't buy a top of the line pro Mac as the extra power and software is wasted and its not a dedicated gaming machine anyway. The PC will work out to be cheaper.
If you are after a multimedia editing and playing platform, with gaming as a secondary consideration then buy an iMac as it's best value for money. You'll struggle with frame rates playing Halo or HL but, hey, you have the best multimedia editing/playing software that money can buy and suitable hardware to boot.
We have a saying where I come from: "Horses for course".
My Mac Powerbook excells at what it does, so too the iMac. Playing home networked Diablo 2? They suck from a hardcore gamer perspective, but I persevere. Editing films with pro quality software and some pro-sumer software thrown in for free: They can't be beaten.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
true, true. but IMO, overall the pc beats the mac. Its great at gaming, but its also good (not the best) at editing software and all that jazz ( but with the software it does have for it, its a lot faster - rendering and stuff ) Upgradeable - sound cards, video cards, memory, all that good stuff.
the Mac NEVER = iMac. That is ONE Mac, not THE Mac. Every Macintosh Apple makes is a Mac. Dell Makes towers, laptops, and whatnot. As does HP. The only difference is the name. I'm saying if we're going to compare computers, might as well compare two like form factors: towers. Yes, it's CALLED the MacPro, and yes it's primarily for professionals, but to say the iMac is the only Mac worth looking at is the worst argument ever. It's merely a middle-of-the-road consumer computer. Not something for someone who is seriously considering hardcore gaming or video editing.
If we're going to start the whole "_____ is the best" argument, well then...Mac is the best. It's awesome for gaming, and it's the best for creating anything you want. Photos, videos, music, DVDs, anything. Sure, some people may not want the extra horsepower or memory (Up to 16GB) or storage (Up to 3 TB), but I'm a power user. And I know that my Mac can do anything, do it fast, do it well, and do it in a painless manner.
Oh, and try to compare the price of a MacPro and a similarly-equipped Dell, and see what the price comes to. You'll be surprised.

I have no reason to buy an overpriced computer, especially when half of the price is for the shiny apple logo. Not only can it do cool things like not run 98% of the games which I play, I can build a PC rig for half the price and kick the mac's ass in benchmarks.
Like I said above. Try comparing a MacPro with a similarly equipped Dell or HP. Your argument is broken. The end.

But wait, you can edit and make videos on a mac. This revolutionary feature is yet to be seen on a PC... or is it? How hard is it to actually download Adobe Premiere from newsgroups or a torrent? Graphics editing? That's what Photoshop and Illustrator were made for. Text documents: MS Office, OpenOffice, Acrobat, etc. So much for state of the art multimedia editing which can't be done on PCs.
Yes, you can edit and make videos on a PC. But does it come installed for free? No. Does it work seamlessly with all your other programs? No. Do you have to be a pirate to acquire it? According to you, yes. Again, broken argument.

I can't recall who said in this topic that you can buy any graphics card from NVIDIA and just put in in your mac, but before you sputter out anything else which even comes close to the stupidity of this statement, do some research.
And guess what you can't do with your mac? Install a noctua heatsink on your c2d and overclock it by 40%.
I said it. And no, you're wrong. I've done it. Many times. With several AGP and PCI-X slots, I have no problem installing any new graphics card in my Mac. Not some POS "Mac-only" graphics card: any one you could purchase from NewEgg or Best Buy.
And as far as overclocking and heatsinks go, if I so wanted, I could. But hey, guess what you can't do on your PC? Run a clean and easy-to-use OS.

I don't think this thread is going to get anywhere. Ever.
Personal preferences have already been chosen.
I am not saying anyone is the "loser" but trying to convince others that their product choice is a bad one, a product they know and love, as well as use day in and day out, is pointless.
I'm certainly not going to be swayed over to the PC side, and none of you are going to be swayed over to the Mac side.
Perhaps an agreement to disagree is in order?

i most of my arguing was due to an angry state i was in. i dont want to say whats been going on for me, other than last night i felt good again, and today i just feel like crap. i might write a thread about it, but not too sure.
i admit i attacked others preferences, and i shouldnt have. i was unfair. its just that when mac conversations have spawned before it gets nasty fast, and im used to it.
Well, everyone else is doing it so i guess ill join in.
My dislike of macs is from all the brand new mac computers my school got, brand new and yet the crappy gateway pc's are still.... by a damn small margin better, they just run smoother.
But ok Ill agree.

Prior to the recent past, Mac's were not upgradeable. Now that they contain Intel products, that's all changed.
Anyone who simply just stated "Mac sucks" is an idiot and should be sterilized.
