Hi, I am spoiled to life on kill because of the "bug" with hydra. It got me through act two and far enough into act three to do sucessful SB runs. I know eventually they'll fix it so I'm trying to figure out what other affixes would be good as far as life steal and life on hit. It's my understanding that in inferno life steal is nerfed by 80% and life on hit has different co-efficients for each spell/rune combination.
I am not a glass cannon, I do a traditional Venom hydra/blizzard build with magic weapon. I have ZERO IAS. Starts are 8.2k armor, 1100 AR with prismatic armor 38k health and 32k DPS with magix weapon/glasscannon. I have enough gold to get a basic 1k dps 1 hand, currently using a 799. My problem right now is that even will the armor and 1100 AR certain things rock my world in act 3 if I'm being a nub and not paying attention or too many damn flyers/prophets on the screen to dodge. Oh, I guess I should mention that I have zero run speed as well.
I traded/bought/found gear that has high armor/AR/int/vit, thinking that I could be more of a tank, stop using FA and still take 5 or more hits while blowing everything up. I'm bad and/or that's not something you can do in act 3...until 1.0.3 anyway.
Anyway back to the main question, other than getting a fast one hand with high dps, is there any sence in getting life steal or life on hit at this point? I was thinking maybe if I got a 3% life steal actually trying the magic weapon rune that give you 1.5% to see if that does anything for me. Yes I know I'm not supposed to get hit, but I do. Other than L2Play what can I do to help?
If you are thinking of survivability life on hit is always good here. Life steal rune on force weapon is negligible because the coefficient is greatly lowered for inferno difficulties, in addition, your gear is more towards tanky, hence your damage output and thus life returned from actual damage dealt will be inferior to sustain you as compared to gearing life on hit pieces. Additionally, there are more life on hit armour pieces as compared to life steal pieces.
The reason why certain things rock your world in act 3 is because some shits just rape people in act 3, like vortex fire-chain combo or vortex plagued or jailer+desecrator or jailer+mortar. Or basically those really messed up FAST Soul Rippers that literally ... rip your soul out.
The only effective way to my knowledge on how to deal with those pesky elite combos is just to stay out of range and nuke from far so that you are out of range from their spells, in this case gearing for damage might be wise as either way with tanky or glass-cannon built screwed up affixes will still rock your world over. Oh btw I used to build tanky but gave up after I saw the mob damage for act 3 and above.
I am now geared class cannon-ny so them elites die before they reach me ;))
Dear God I think I have only been able to kill one elite pack of soul rippers and I think that took me 7+ deaths. I normally just leave the area if I encounter a pack of those, find elites elsewhere. After reading the past few weeks I really wish I had gone glass cannon. I mean I can face tank act 1, and even most things in act 2. Dieing to normal mobs in act 3 irritates me, normally beacuse I'm doing something stupid but at the same time I get pissed because with 1100 AR why the hell do ranged attacks 2 shot me?
I find myself going back and forth from FA to prismatic because of ranged, almost makes me want to add slow time into my build some how. With FA I can take more a beating from them but with prismatic I can take 4-5 hits from melee. I really don't want to switch out my armor, I woudln't sell it until after I see if it's worth it to stay high armor/res when 1.0.3 hits. A weapon right now would be the biggest bang for my buck I think, I've had some blue 1k dps weapons drop and they're all like a 10k dps increase, but I always sell them because I want a life on hit type or hell if I knew I could ride the life on kill hydra bug out for another month or so I'd waste money on that. My luck though I would buy an awesome like on kill 1k dps'r and it would be hotfixed 5 minutes after.
