-- Get a Templar Follower for greater Life & Spirit Capabilities
-- Dual Wield weapons instead of 2-handed weapons for faster Attack Speed and benefit from more suffixes.
SkillBuild Additional Information 1 -- I have decided to go for ||Exalted Soul|| instead of ||Fleet Footed|| as i had read that it would be too much of a waste to use up a Passive Skill Slot for just +10% movement speed. However, i will test out this skillbuild without ||Exalted Soul|| to see if there is a need for high max spirit. 2 -- In addition, if equipments are able to provide some really nice spirit suffixes at high levels, i will change ||Way of the Hundred Fists: Spirited Salvo|| to ||Blazing Fists||. Granting me some extra decent attack speed and movement speed. 3 -- I will also change ||Cyclone Strike: Soothing Breeze|| to ||Implosion|| if i find that i do not need the extra +4000 Life to heal myself, as using the Skill itself will heal me for 8895 Life/Cyclone Strike. And as a result, i will also not be able to heal my allies. 4 -- I have chosen ||Cyclone Strike|| instead of ||Wave of Light|| as i wanted a skill that does AOE damage around my character. Not one that does AOE damage at the targetted enemy and then in a single line. Neither do i want to use it only when they are in a single line. 5 -- The reason why i have not chosen ||Breath of Heaven: Infused with Light|| is because i didn't want to find myself repeatedly casting a buff while i am extremely focusing on what is happening in the battle against many enemies and i didn't want to remember having to use the skill every 15 seconds. If its every 7 mins, i am fine with that. Point 2) also explains why - Spirit Suffixes at high levels from equipments. 6 -- I have not chosen ||Mystic Ally: Air Ally|| as i do not know how often that 2% will occur to grant me 100 Spirit. And i will need to know more on how frequent it attacks. Also, this is completely leaving it to chance to get Spirit. I try to employ ways that requires a condition but are definite, such as - attack to get spirit or ||Sweeping Wind: Inner Storm||, rather than to leave it to chance. If its chance, it must be decent enough: taking into consideration how often the chance [dice] gets rolled and how high is the chance.
Yea. i was thinking how fast can Monk hit with all the attack speed bonus.i did ask about this in the forums. some mentioned about cancelling animation halfway or something like that. Another mentioned about the charge timer being reseted.
So i guess until i get my hands to experiment with this, i will just have to wait then. zzz,,,
haha...yea. i would like to aim for endless tempest rush first though. the 2 rather expensive spirit spenders are some side fun AOE-stuff that i threw into the build. If i really want to use them, i will have to use Sweeping Wind to fill the monk's spirit faster.
But i hope "+X Spirit per hit" suffix exist in the game. would be greater if it does have "regenerate X Spirit/sec" too. This build really heavily depends on either of these 2 suffixes. right now i only know Amethyst gem does give "X Life per hit".
Any other ideas on how to get Spirit faster?
what i thought was getting a faster attack speed should help to achieve that. (^^)
I don't think there's a +Spirit/Hit suffix, but there's definitely "regenerate X spirit/second". The idea of maximizing spirit regeneration is interesting. If your goal is to use Tempest Rush all the time, I'd say you might want to use Northern Breeze to reduce the spirit cost. Judging by the endgame unique/set items that were on the official site before they were taken down, your dream of infinite Tempest Rush may one day be achievable.
......for real?! There's "regenerate X Spirit/sec"?
Woooah! haha! ALRIGHT!
Yeap. While planning out this skill build, i initially wanted to bring down the cost of Tempest Rush to 10. So that it will be a lot more possible to use Tempest Rush endlessly. But i am not sure how much i can get from suffixes. So i can only wait and see until i get my hands on the game. bringing down the cost will also reduce the amount of life i get by spending lesser spirit and most importantly, not having +25% movement speed. i wouldn't enjoy "rushing" if its....not fast enough. xD
Also, i am not sure if Monk's Passive Skill: The Guardian's Path, will affect """Spirit regen/sec""". It only says "All Spirit *Generation* is increased by 25%". Sooo...yea. does "generation" affect "regen"?
Yeah, Guardian's Path appears to be another good way to bump up the spirit generation if you're wielding a 2-hander. So if you were at 5 spirit/second, that extra 25% should get you to 6.25 spirit/sec.
I very much like the idea of an infinite tempest rush build, as it's a fun skill. But it's damage output is pretty abysmal actually, even at level 13 with pimped items in the beta (outlevelling everything considerably). It's more useful as light AOE damage and CC, and for the fact that it helps you pass through enemies. The tooltip doesn't say how often it hits for 50% weapon damage, but my guess is that it's based on weapon speed like every other skill.
Just doesn't seem like a primary combat skill to me, better as a utility skill to support AOE spirit generators.
Thanks (^^). i do hope we will be able to achieve that Inifinite Tempest Rush.
Yea..the damage is really low...only 50% of weapon damage. as to why i had assign it to the left mouse button, no other reason except just personal preference instead of having to press "1" or "2" for convenience. lol...
I have made a few changes to the Skill Build.
Will update and repost in this thread once i am done finalizing the why's within myself. lol...
I would make sure every piece of gear has +dex (i guess for any monk this would be valid) but mainly because dodge would be icing on the cake here. The knockback on tempest rush is pretty sweet and if you maneuver properly you can avoid so many hits, combines with a nice base dodge chance the survivability is decent (but its going to require a lot of micro to stay alive as compared with some more passive methods of survivability). Either way if you keep knocking everything back (especially after an implosiong you spin the monk in circles using tempest rush) and dodge hits you be doing this http://i.imgur.com/xLP6q.gif instead of trying to stay alive.

I was deeply interested in doing a SkillBuild that is purely focused on "Dodge". But i knew too little about its mechanics and how things work. For example, does "dodge" includes dodging ranged and magical attacks? I understand that we can "manually" dodge any ranged attacks just by moving out of the way. But would be better in terms of survivalbility in case there's too much ranged attacks everywhere spam by many monsters. XD. Hence, i need to know about how "dodge" works. If "Dodge" only applies to melee attacks, i guess it isn't so great? any ideas?
As for staying alive...i have decided to go with high Life & Spirit regeneration/generation capabilities. Not exactly the highest or the max or the best since i'm not using the best. But rather, i try to employ many different ways to get Life.
1] gain X Life/hit
2] gain X Life/Spirit spend
3] Mantra
4] Follower
5] Health Globes
The 1st 3 alone will be activated very frequently if there's a large group of monsters. Mantra is already happening each second. i can score lots of hits depending on the number of monsters and how many hits it takes to kill them. and its easy to spam my no-cooldown spirit spender skills to give my monk a great amount of Life. Hmm...any other ideas to get more Life? do you think "gain X Life/kill" is worth it? lol...
Also not forgetting, i am spending 15 Spirit each second by continuously using Tempest Rush? That grants me 1500++ Life each second. i have not brought down its Spirit cost. But rather, i increase my Spirit Regeneration capabilities. And i am not sure if raising one's attack speed will make Tempest Rush spend/channel even faster. You may refer to this thread as i have. Quite an interesting read: http://www.diablofans.com/topic/36241-mechanics-of-channeled-spells/page__hl__+attack +speed__fromsearch__1
Im not sure you can channel TR for so long. I wish we could
More then that, like someone already mentioned, you need to attack continuously to get the inner storm buff. So you can't get both.
I get why you want to try this but I'm quite sure this won't be viable in late game and you would have a very hard time killing stuff, as far as what I've seen from tempest rush in beta. The skill could use a tweak or two.
Yeah, unfortunately Tempest Rush builds were way cooler before Patch 13 when it did 170% WD (I think?). It seems like 50% is too weak to be useful IMO, so hopefully it gets a buff before release.
The tooltip doesn't say how often it hits for 50% weapon damage, but my guess is that it's based on weapon speed like every other skill.
Based on the description and the nature of the skill, I kind of assume it has nothing to do with weapon speed and will damage enemies any time you pass through them while channeling the spell. With this assumption in mind, I came up with this build that essentially aims for maximum possible movement speed so you can run through things more often: http://us.battle.net...UdZk!bYc!ZZabab
Assuming all buffs (Blazing Fists/WotFS) are active, we're looking at 80% increased movement speed while channeling TR (assuming movement buffs are additive). Air Ally and Chant of Resonance are there to provide extra Spirit for channeling TR (though Air Ally was a hell of a lot better before Patch 13 too) and Transcendence provides some nice healing while channeling. I don't know if the 5% on Wind Through the Reeds is really worth it; there might be a better rune and/or mantra choice there, but I've included it for the sake of the build's "theme."

Yea. Its hard to say if its impossible or very possible at the moment. I just hope we can increase Spirit regen/sec or have +X Spirit/hit from equipments. It may not be a lot in the early game but late game, it should give quite a decent amount, possibly enough to even use TR endlessly. Well...that is only if every piece of equipment has Spirit regen/sec or +X Spirit/hit. We can only wait and see and experiment with it. (^^)
As for spirit generation skills, the skillbuild's theme isn't so heavily reliant on those 2 actually. More so on the suffixes and equipments. I had chosen those skills as intended to quickly fill up the Spirit Globe to full in a few seconds. So that one may spam the no-cooldown spirit spender skills almost instantly, almost at all times. This will definitely require some really decent attack speed, resulting in the player to micro a lot. In other words, lots of button mashing here and there.
To get TR to be used endlessly, i will have to consider bringing its spirit cost down to 10. sigh...and as a result for doing so, i will lose out the +25% movement speed and the amount of Life i get for spending lesser Spirit.

That is some awesome movement speed skillbuild! Thanks!
regarding the damage that TR does, i am not that concerned about it. Because my intention for using it was never to kill monsters but only to use it for several other purposes like push them out of the way, try to gather them together, escaping, getting from one place to another faster like from the entrance of level 1 to the exit, etc. Therefore, i am fine with it as the way it is. If i really want to kill, i would be spamming Cyclone Strike and Way of the Hundred Fists. I mean...that's the most damaging skills that i have in my skill slots. lol!
But it would be fun to push a group of monsters into a corner and just continue using Tempest Rush on them, constantly knock-backing them into the wall to death. lol...if possible.
Air Ally...2%...i will reconsider getting that if they increase the chances. initially i felt that it's quite low? I am aware it has a 2% chance for each attack. But i guess we won't know how often it attacks until we get to try it out.
Thanks for the interesting and constructive comments!!! i appreciate it (^^)
