I am just getting back into D3 after a year off and what was a pretty decent DH in 1.x is now crap. I'm made of glass. Can somebody make some recommendations on what I should focus on as far as gear? There's plenty of guides on what to use for spells but I'm having a hard time with gear. I have some really high crit/speed but it seems I may need to sacrifice some of that now for +vit. My tactics these days are limited to dropping 3 sentries and then running far away. Lame. Thanks for any pointers.
Try to find gear that bonus damage for certain skill classes (fire/poison/etc...) . Play around with your skills a little bit, I personally usually use two healing skills at a time, one for life on hit, and the other replenishes a lot of health which I find help during the potion delay. Other than that, I also use cal trops, and have the skill thing that sets it to where you do bonus damage to slowed enemies. Definitely helps buy you time from monsters, as well as helps you damage them faster. Hope that helps a bit.
You're 70 using 60 gems, why? Most of your gear is legendary 60 gear that is very inferior to 70 yellows dps wise-- massive dex beats your secondary stats. Get primaries, then go for secondaries again. Your pants should be kept and socketed with high level emeralds.
Your passive choices are unfortunately god awful against anything other than a single target fight, you even have a 2h crossbow and you're not using Archery for 50% extra crit hit damage.
You hatred spenders are awful, and your double discipline choices with 30 discipline just makes no sense as a choice to me.
The level 60 gems are due to the cost of removing them, cheaper to just find new gear and put in level 70 gems. I'm this very moment getting rid of a bunch of the +speed/+crit legacy items and replacing it with +vit/+dex. I was using archery up until earlier today, again trying to figure this disaster out :(.
Thanks for the guide. I have a cindercoat, let me see if I can tweak this thing for fire damage.
Put diamonds into gear for toughness boost instead of amethysts, it goes a longer way. You'll enjoy a +fire damage build as it still allows you plenty of skill options that benefit from it (not all, but plenty)
OMG!!! What a change... I don't even really understand how it is I get rid of much of the speed/crit and with a few spell/gear changes my toughness went from 200kish to 1.5m and my crits are doing 1m in damage. I went from lame to total buttkicking. Thanks!!! This game just took on a whole new level of fun again.
Core- I went 10% Movement Speed since mobility is invaluable and boots often come with it nowadays, then dex. Defensive- straight Resist All, it's too OP. The Third One- Critical Hit Damage, just look at the pitiful scalings on the others...plus CHD is your only priority after DEX and getting crit acceptably high. In Utility- 10% area damage (for my spec) and the rest into life on hit, since it helps me regen a little normally and a ton with vengeance and skills like multishot (when Blizz or RNG decide to make them fotm)
After using this for a few days, I still have a couple of weaknesses I'm trying to sort out. I'm doing Torment 1 runs with groups and my single target damage with entangling shot sucks compared to using multishot, but I run out of hatred way too fast with multishot and end up just running around trying to avoid getting killed by the mobs during elite battles.

Single target dps will always suck, we're pretty bad at it. Cluster Arrow solves this by giving us a huge single target/medium sized nuke. Our hatred spenders will suck forever until you get Kridershot. Try Grenades, they hit multiple times at close range. Fan of Knives with the hatred cost rune is also surprisingly decent, pick up Cull the Weak for a bonus 20% damage on it since it slows (tricky tricky)
Thanks Niddro, I will play around with some of those recommendations right now. I think I have most of the gear you described stashed away "just in case". Kridershot... OMG... had to google that.... it's the new Windforce!! Found Izzuccob today but doesn't beat Hellrack.
Windforce was the best bow you could own in D2 LOD. One of the first ones found sold on eBay for almost $1000. Then the duping exploits began and while it was still a highly coveted bow, the sale price dropped to a few bucks.
Niddro, I think I'm just about there with your advice. Up to 330k damage, 5.6m toughness, +54% crit, +100% crit dmg, I'll replace the gem in the bow tomorrow, need one more imperial emerald then I'll have enough for a flawless royal. I'm seeing crit hits of up to 4million. I could still use better AR I think, that now seems to be my weak point with elites. I was in 4 player torment against Maltheal tonight and was the last one standing... We failed, but I failed last :).
There's room for improvement on shoulders and pants and sockets in the cloak would be nice.
But damn, with the advice from the two of you, all I can say is WOOHOO! Thanks again.
Still tweaking, went back to play with cindercoat + magefist + custerian + hellrack = crits of 10million and at a distance, I can get 8-10 cluster arrows off in a row with Prides Fall.
Pride's fall is decent if you're moving at a snail's pace, if you're doing big pulls with a group (or solo like a man), you should be getting smacked around a bit and losing the bonus. Magefist is nice, I'm jelly.

Manticore I can understand. Or Kridershot.
