How is the mechanics of sentries ? I do have a high attack-speed DH (2.83 APS), and I have a feeling sentries would be affected by attack speed, but how do we maximize their damage ?
Sentry damage is affected by attack speed, average damage, dexterity and any %bonus on items like inna's belt, zuni boots, SOJs and tal ammys. It'll also be boosted by steady aim and marked for death, I prefer valley of death because it's a place and forget rune, and works great for mobs. Sentries also benefit from the 15% additional damage from Archery if using a bow, but because they don't crit, xbows and 2h xbows are kinda useless.
The Chain of Torment rune will proc lifesteal, knockback and any cold effects from an SOJ. But because you gotta stay close to the sentry (somewhere within 3/4 screen length), you'll need high eHP to take a few hits.
I find ballistics rather useless because the rockets are only 30% damage if i remember right. so 30% x 1.5 = 45% damage, not worth wasting a passive slot. My friend in that video uses steady aim, but he is a dps maximised build whereas I prefer a more balanced one for survivability. His sentries do about 150~180 per shot while mine do 100~150 per shot.
And since sentries can't crit, I don't have any crit chance or crit damage on my gear. Everything is designed to maximise base weapon damage and attack speed.
