Demonstration video: MP10 elite kill, just under 3 minutes
this isn't meant to be a real guide or anything, just a quick rundown of what you should expect from ML10 and what you'll want to be capable of.
I'm just doing this cuz i hear 5 stack MP10 has 100% key drops, it's definitely not efficient.
anyways onto the tips.
You will need a lot of healing.
I recommend 2000-3000 LoH or the equivalent.
6% lifesteal won't cut it.
As well as 45k or higher life, so you don't get killed by spike damage.
I had to socket 3 vit gems to do this, but it was worth it.
Passives: Beacon, Seize, OWE
you'll need every ounce of defense you can get
Actives:
Serenity/Ascension
Blinding Flash/FTL
Sweeping Wind/Cyclone
FoT/Thunderclap
^^ those are just the generic monk skills.
The 5th and 6th skills aren't set in stone, but consider the following:
Dashing Strike/quicksilver or dodge rune
Cyclone Strike/radius
conviction/overawe
evasion/hard target or backlash
tip 1:
you NEED either cyclone strike or dashing strike.
kiting is extremely limited in ML10, because every millisecond you're kiting is a millisecond you're not generating loh, and are under risk of instant death.
dashing strike and cyclone strike are absolutely required for your survival.
tip 2: Pull elites, clear white mobs
you don't want distractions when fighting an elite pack.
And kiting an elite pack into another elite pack will easily cost you 5 or more deaths
clear white packs, pull elites into empty areas before engaging. You'll be fighting them for a long time anyways, consider this a long term investment.
tip 3: for the love of god, never stop punching
healing is everything, don't stop punching, don't stop.
Even if you're in the middle of a desecrator pool, keep punching.
If you must kite, do it right after a blinding flash or serenity.
tip 4: Windforce Scoundrel
scoundrel got a buff to his damage
scoundrel's 3% crit chance doesn't disappear when he dies, unlike 3% ias from enchantress
windforce stuns enemy elites, this is absolutely precious.
get ias on scoundrel's amulet and neck to maximize his proc rate.
and don't forget multishot on the scoundrel.
Tip 5: Stairs are your friend
this is an age old tip that everyone knows.
stairs fuck up arcane lasers, and that means less kiting.
less kiting means less dying.
Stairs, YES! <3
pretty much.
lifesteal is by no means bad either, but you will need to supplement.
most likely from jewelry.
the vit is definitey important.
I tried fighting reflect horde molten desecrator phasebeasts.
they do so much damage each swing its absurd.
I went from 39k life to dead just trying to dashing strike into them to get in position.
even at 45k there will be mobs you will need to skip
dashing strike is nice in that it lets you facilitate an escape.
and what about the affix lvl on the items dropped by MP10 elites?
I believe that a blue poster said MP1 raises the base monster levels to 63 and every MP above that boosts the damage and health. This leads me to believe that they'd all be i63 affixes. The big thing MP2-10 would give would be the increase to Gold, Magic Find, and XP..
@ thundersteele.
800 resist, 4200 armor ish
very low dodge, i have like 1600-1700 dex, so whatever that comes out to.
I had 428 life regen and 3040 loh.
I was healing about 12k life per second vs single targets, more in AoE.
definitely overkill, even on MP-10.
1500-2000 loh should be fine.
Most players these days get lifesteal on their weapons.
I feel like simply supplementing LoH onto your jewelry will be good enough to allow players to facetank.
IE 1x lifesteal WKL + 1x lifesteal echoing fury + ~500-1k more loh from your jewelry and you're set.
the problem I'm having is that LOH weps just dont do enough damage and LS weps dont heal enough... but then again Im in that painful process of converting from LOH to LS... and only at 60k dps unbuffed...with 3% LS. ouch.
I just got a sledgefist, can't transfer it to PTR yet but I can in a few days.
Hoping it will let me cut back on my loh.
Won't the low dps on sledgefist be too much of a hindrance? Yeah the monsters might be stunned, but it'll take ages to kill them. Life steal would also drastically decrease in value.
dps drops a bit yeah, but remember that sweeping wind works on active hand mechanics
it takes some effort, since the offhand for a monk switches with every punch.
but if you're willing to put in the effort, you can negate most of the dps loss from a shit offhander.
so the drop ends up being pretty negligible, especially with +AS on the sledgefist.
650 resist, 3% steal 350 LoH was not enough to out-heal one reflect damage boss.
For monks with 5-6x paper doll 100% dps uptime would desire 85-90k dps before enrage.
I agree the 45k health is "safe". I wonder how much damage is reflected. I'm holding off on jewelry for 1.05. Lacuni bracers and blackthorn pants may be viable.

Say you're sitting at 2k LoH from main hand + jewelry. The fist gives you 12%-14% IAS effectively, so in the best case you go from 2.0 to 2.14 attacks per second. That's a buff to LoH of just 7%.
The much better alternative imho is to get an off hand with 900 LoH, high vit (and high dex or str for mitigation), crit + socket. That's a 45% buff to LoH in this situation
So far I've dealt with "easy" elites on MP10. The toughest were probably reflect damage Fallen Overlords. For those I had to swap in my LoH weapon + amulet (down from 100k to 60k dps) and use MoE/Hard Target. Then they were suddenly easy, though spike damage was still dangerous. But the hard packs I didn't dare yet, i.e. the elite versions of the mobs in arreat crater.
Btw, they fixed molten on the PTR. I went back to live and ran into a few molten mobs and was suddenly taking so much damage o.O. Also I have to say that while MP 10 is tedious and inefficient, it's also more fun than fighting the low health mobs in the current live patch.
Oh, a few things about LS scaling:
LS scales better with AoE, but that's not ideal for elite fights. Also if you have to switch to MoE it looses a lot of healing, and you have to make sure that you survive the ramp up time of sweeping wind. A balanced setup with LS on the weapon, LoH on the amulet and some health regen on armor should be more universally useful.
it's nearly total stunlock though.
For example, if i fight seigebreaker with sledge fists, he rarely is able to perform any of his attacks.
be it his grab, his charge, etc.
on average he only gets to initiate one attack once every 10-15 seconds.
and usually he gets stunned again before he gets to swipe his claws more than once.
same rules apply to elites, granted it's a bit harder to stun a pack of elites than it is to stun a single enemy target,
why not just get an echoing fury instead of sledge fist?
fear sucks, and as thundersteele said already, dps doesn't matter with hammerwind builds.
i'd pretty much have the same killspeed with echoing fury as with sledge fist.
only difference is fear will slow your kill speed and echoing furies are so much more expensive.
i love the fear, when elites are in spots and u want them to move, always helpfull, and when alot of mobs attack u, there is always a nasty one getting feared lowering damage in bad situations.
Once a while a mob will get feared further then u like, but the situations were it helped u are alot more, but u probably don't even notice it.
eh, I always use dashing strike. and I feel like that's better in almost any situation where I would want fear anyways
also @ thundersteele.
the +AS is nice too, boosts sweeping wind dps afterall.
what is so good about dashing strike these days? did it get buffed in 1.04 or 1.05?
i haven't been able to play PTR, too busy, so what stats should we focus more on these days, loh or dps? lets say i have 60k dps unbuff and 1k loh
They made dashing strike scale with attack speed, it likely still has the small window of invincibility. It's your get out of a bad situation free card.
With those stats and quite a bit of EHP you would likely focus on increasing dps, with more sustain as it rises.

Offense is the best defense, my experience also tells me that I die when I stop punching.
guess we need amethyst instead of ruby now...

does it really work that way? I pretty much can keep healed up against anything.
the worst affix is definitely reflect damage.
Molten is just behind that in terms of DPS.
Other than that, it's stun affixes that pose large problems
IE frozen, vortex, knockback, fear.
Hoping it will let me cut back on my loh.

5 minute enrage timer, 300 seconds. 129 Million health / 300 seconds requires 430,000 actual dps.
