i'm lvl 45 with 1200 damage and 13500 hp, ghom is pretty much insta killing my templar so i cant rely on him and he is slowly killing me off. I can't seem to do any dmg to him without dying extremly fast from his gas aura and the adds he spits out. need advice
using heal, exploding palm, seven sided strike, mantra of conviction, fist of thunder and tempest rush( mainly to get away from his gas area)
IMO, you shouldn't do any kind of boss/mini-boss battles without Sweeping Wind, since you absolutely need to get defensive skills, such as Mantras, Serenity and Breath of Heaven. The extra and constant dps is worthwhile, expecially with adds.
Since the Boon nerf, I feel that dodge is the way to go.
Mobility and survivability, with some dps to not extend the fight too much.
You can swap SSS for Dashing Strike if you are having trouble moving around. For Normal and NM, I would still use Blinding Fash with Echo (free blind a couple of secs later) for some heavy damage input without being bothered.
For passives, i feel the only one needed is Guardian's Path for the dodge. Transcendence is a heal booster and Seize the Initiative can be swapped for Resolve if you're not stacking heavy Dex like I am.

My build for (almost) every boss is this: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#agTiXh!YdX!aaaZba
