Is this what you've said to everyone who has gotten a job at Blizzard? It's true, low chance, but you can't say that to everyone who has the hopes for it.

I was hired by a large multi-million dollar developer and publisher with no schooling of any kind in computers. They hired me on work that I had created with my resum'e. They were impressed with my innovation and creativity. The major reason was because I had created something similar to what they wanted to create.
The information I had learned was from thousands of hours of studying and working with various 3d modeling and level building software. Through that I had learned the professional names for the objects I was creating.

Exactly, exactly, EXACTLY! That is what I'm talking about NoExplanation. It's kinda like me grading school is like a stepping stone to higher and better things. Your at the bottom of the food chain. People look at me and tell me I'm not going to get anywhere in my life. I was entered in a program a year ago, for my beliefs. To be able to use my freedom to be able to take my own decisions. The worse thing you can do to a man is "Not let him make his own decisions". It's like ripping his pride away.
I was entered in that program Febuary 5th 2007. They laughed at me, because they couldnt stand the fact that they knew I was right. Because all they had was facts, no room for doubts, or possibilitys. No room for anything else. Except the facts they have. Everyone thought I was in the wrong. I stood for what I told and they thought they could change me. I broke the chain, I broke the facts. I told them that I would not go back to school until next year, but no the facts had to infere leaving no room for possiblitys or doubts. My exact words "I will not continue school until August", them "Have a nice time in jail! While your waiting on boot camp!" got out of jail in 1 week. Never went to boot camp. Because guess what? By that time August was here and I was back in school. The program was called "Childs and Family Services".
The funny thing is when I started going back to school they said "Told you we would change you". I felt like I was going to kill the lady. But instead I just said "You didnt change me, I'm still the same guy I was 8 months ago, and I will never change, because I am who I am. I will succeed in my life. And the more you keep saying "yea right" and literally laugh in my face. And tell me I'm wrong. It's just how much more I'm gonna proove you wrong.
My friends, family, and even when I try to talk to girls. There like "Your dropping out!?" It's like all there respect for me goes down the drain and so I ask whats wrong with that? "Your not gonna get anywhere in life". These are the people who can kiss my ass!
You know what I'm gonna stop right there. Because I'm not even gonna get into that tonight. Besides I have class in the morning.

Well in the overall aspect of things, Developing Companies generally hire the talented. The only true benefit of attending prestiges colleges is the connections. A college that has a well paid Professor, has connections and can vouge for you into a company. But it still falls down on you the individual. If you draw crap or program like crap, you are not going to going to impress anyone. I wouldn't invest any money into training until you find out what you are good at or have a knack for.
I have always had a nitch for modeling so one day I started to read information on how to create my own models. I downloaded Mapping programs, tutorials, 3d milkshape and all of its tutorials and I just started to go to work. Learning through the tutorials to build what I had in my imagination. Eventually I got better and better at it. But I always had a certain level of talent being able to draw what I invisioned.
If you can find that in you, you shouldn't have a problem. Just start making projects that you can display to people and employers.

Thanks again. But I have a question since all graphics are done by programs these days (and really no talent really needed) I draw on pencil and paper pretty crappy. But I learned and it's pretty common sense that you sketch out (on pen and paper) of what your going to make on the program. I was wondering by joining a game design / programming company will that affect you in not getting hired. But I will be honest for some reason in Intermediate school grade 4-6. I had a real good.. sorry not real good but it was okay drawing I would draw pictures of my favoriate DBZ characters in class and I would come home everyday and show my mom and I never realized till I got older that she didnt believe me because at that age "How can you draw that good?". So I wasnt really encourage to keep going.
And you know the funny thing is my hand writing has always been chicken scatch but I did some really nice drawing as a kid and I just kinda lost that talent. I still have abunch of work I did back then. Maybe I will be able to scan that some day and show it off to you all.

If you think that talent does not apply to draw well, you are sadly mistaken. In fact the standard has gone up to need more talented people in these area's. If you like you can always Torrent the programs that developers use to create their masterpieces and you can try and replcate something. Let me know how you do.

I'd suggest not rushing into game development. I know a lot about studios and it's not the greatest job in the world. The work is hard and often boring. The hours are long. The pay's not the best - for example a computer programmer gets paid much more than a game programmer. I know a couple devs who just couldn't handle the work (from EA and Ensemble Studios) and left disgruntled. You will only survive if you have a great passion for games. If you do, you may enjoy yourself but otherwise I wouldn't suggest it.
Game designers are a dime a dozen. You have to be the best if you want success. After college or during college, I'd suggest starting as an art intern. You probably won't get paid but it will help you become an artist and from there you can work your way up to a studio like Blizzard. If you have an interest in programming, level design, etc, you could start off as a tester instead but that is a very tedious job. If there's no studios near your college, get a job working on one of the freeware games like 0 AD. They won't pay but will look good on your resume.
