I was always a fan of the Diablo lore/story and I think that there's a lot of potential to create a beautiful RPG a la Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale. Look at those games. They were extremely fun, deep, involving, and each character played a role in the party. It was a rich experience, especially Baldur's Gate 1+2.
Now take the dark and twisted world of Diablo and make it into an RPG instead of another crappy clickfest and we've got a superior game. I'm tired of all the pointless, brainless clicking garbage that we see these days. People seem to think that if the point of the game is to level up and kill things repeatedly then it's classified as an RPG. However, that's completely wrong.
I don't want to see lv 99 God characters and lv 1 newbs who couldn't even scratch a lv 99 with an army of a million. I'd like it to be toned down and more realistic in the combat sense.
Anyone else think that this should become a real RPG? I know it'll take the franchise into a completely new direction and the brainless click-fest fans will be upset, but whatever, let them play WoW.
hmm i like your point, but i love the clickfest. besides, it takes a long time to lvl up to 90 in the first place, no matter which way you do it. this franchise is what it is because of the clickfest, right back to the first. if you dont like it go play baldurs gate. notice that many of us here are engulfed with the diablo story.
and also it takes a lot of work and dedication to make a good character. i would know. take all this in mind, because i think that its totally fair.

Don't get me wrong bro, I understand the genius it takes to make a good character. But that's the problem, it's the process of making the character and PvP was always so boring.
I loved Diablo, and I really enjoyed D2+LoD. However, I have matured and now enjoy the story side to an RPG much more than the action side. Don't get me wrong though, I love action, but the story element is more important in an RPG.
I understand that it was brought up to be a clickfest, but look at warcraft. They made that RTS in an MMORPG.
And come on, you can't just say "Go play Baldur's Gate". The point is I've already played it and would enjoy a real RPG set in the Diablo universe, BG can't offer that, can it?
well. youre right. we want expansion on the story, and at this point we do demand it. we've waited too long. warcraft is not to remain a mmorpg. its gonna go back to rts ive heard. WoW was just a transition between the games.
i was wrong in being judgemental but still. the enigmas of diablo (pardon the pun) are what make the story. we like the mystery, the darkness and unclarity. we like to guess and see what we get later. we like to play key roles in the games making, such as the cow level.
we love a company that will deliver the best games when they release. i dont know of one blizzard release that was bad in the last 10 years. you dont see too much of that in their industry. most companies make a game and expect it to be a best seller because of its title. not blizzard. though they are due for a diablo release, we should be thankful that we do get quality, not quantity.
i agree with vman. the point of the game is not just leveling up, there is a good scenario written for the game. but the clickfest makes the diablo series so special i think. i do now play bg2, this rpg games are very good. but they are different kinds of pc games. i think they must continue with the same style as the other series...

Yes, although Blizzard is a mega-money corporation, they do deliver quality games with quality service. I will drink to that.
And I know what I'm asking for is too much, especially since it would basically go against most diablo fans' wishes (except mine), but I'd at least like it to be less of "go out of town, kill, level up, do runs for loot, etc, beat game, start over on new difficulty" and more of something along the lines of morrowind except more action and where it's not linear but very open.
I want something different, let's just keep it at that.
by all means, i think that go out of town and kill, lvl, run for loot, start over on new diff is tired. i think that the go out of town and kill is a good concept. now if they can make it different and add more to the game we have something. i dont think there is anything wrong with wanting more, i have stated before that i want way more. the story to be deeper, the characters to be more in numbers and options on sex, left handed or right handed (big issue with me) and other stuff. we want MORE. i feel mostly the way you do except that the click fest should fall somewhere in there.the click fest should continue though more things should be added on the side so that there is some for everyone.
both of u make good points but diablo isnt the kind of game ur talking about and it wasnt meant to be, d3 will most likely be the same or close to d1 and d2 and ur going to have to live with it
Warlord55 is correct D2 was the same fighting style as Diablo 1 so if you don't like it try a different game or you can play Diablo 3 and try to enjoy it.
The playing style of Diablo 2 is what made the game the way it is now. That is what is unique and fun about it. I do have to agree that we need to get rid of the difficulty levels and have a longer story line. That will take out the repeat tiredness of quests you do. But Diablo is such a big hit by the way you play it. If you try to change that, you will have a different game.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.

may i suggest tes oblivion? if u want an open game that is it. I took me over 40 hours of gameplay to even start the first main quest.
this is a little off topic but this is my top 5 games in order of how many hours ive put into them
1. Diablo2:lod
2. Diablo
3. Oblivion...................oblivion and warcraft
4. Warcraft 2...........might be the other way around
5. Halo 2
more then ive spent doin anything else in my life.....
and no im not really into oblivion i have just played the elder scrolls saga f games since the begignign ack with daffer fall and arena
and i have heard sooooo many ocmplaints about oblivion from people pointing out flaws with it about the levaling system and how everything in the world levals with u. Its a constant challenge isnt that what games should be....and there is a difficulty slider for when i feel like castin a fireball into a cave and watchin it take out 40 people
It takes me a while to get into the 1st person games. There's just something about just seeing a arm and sword flash in front of the screen. I did beat Kings Field though. One of my favorite RPG's is Chrono Cross. Chrono Trigger wasnt bad. Mabey someday they will finish the series.
