I wouldn't necessarily say they were barbarians, considering they were smart enough to get to the New World...
Historians say they were barbarians. Historians > you.
Speaking of trainers.
I really hate the attitude most trainers seem to have about injuries. On our robotics team, if someone gets hurt, it's an issue and means someone did something dumb or dangerous. On a sports team, injuries are "ok" or even "good". What kind of attitude is that.
that's because they don't consider (the trainers) the robotics team as anything that deals with competing. Now granted i understand that people can get hurt anytime anywhere, but it's that whole mentality that if you get hurt you have to be on a sports team
People get injured on robotics teams? And I do agree with Equinox, what a group of people does and are able to accomplish doesn't affect whether they are or aren't barbaric. Look at neanderthals and such, they found fire but you would never call them civil.

Because a lot of sports are dangerous, and you don't have to make a mistake to get hurt. However, I can't be sure that anything that you get hurt by while on a robotics team is always your mistake or someone else's.

Well we call our trainers mentors. And we do compete. In mental skill of putting a robot together, in driving skill as far as controlling the robot, in cheering and support, and in tactics on the field, and in forming teams with people we have just met. I think there is some competition going on there. If it doesn't involve people hitting each other it doesn't mean it's not competition.

Getting hurt is a bad thing, no matter where you are. Sure you should be ready for it, and robotics people are also ready for it because you can't avoid EVERYTHING that's going to happen, but the mentality is different. Sports hurt is good, robotics hurt is bad.
I really hate the "get a girlfriend" kind of advice, tho. You can't just "get" a girlfriend like she's some kind of object you buy in a grocery store. If a man cannot occupy himself without some random girl... he'll only get random girls.

LOL, sorry about that I really didn't mean it like that.

Different historians say different things. Some historians say that they were idiots, others say they were intellegent.
History isn't black and white.
Mentors > Trainers. We got some college guys as mentors, they know their stuff.
*Falls to his knees.* PLEASE!!!!
yes all in all we do agree what trainers are idiots!
It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
