The reason I decided to dislike it was because they never really ended anything, it just kept going and going until it got old. It was my very first anime as a kid, unless you count Sailor Moon (which I only liked because of the long legged girls). I recently tried to watch both of those series over again and just couldn't....
DBZ series 1-3 are pretty good. The last episode of the third season was open-ended. But I was perfectly satisfied to to stop there and I never went on to watch DBGT.
Yeah, definitely don't bother with GT. It tries to feel all fresh and new, but fails. Plus they totally screwed up Trunks in it, he was waaay cooler in that movie they made that had him in it.
Some of this will be reposted but I want to mention some of these again. Remember that with anime, even in most serious ones, there is the Japanese style of humor/art type stuff that we consider childish. Especially in their anime aimed at mid teens to young adults.
Definate To Watch:
Vampire Hunter D : Bloodlust
Desert Punk (some of the manga type punctuations but definately not child aimed)
Elfen Lied
TriGun
GunGrave
Cowboy Bebop
Hellsing (Ultimate)
Berserk
Trinity Blood
Gantz
YuYu Hakusho
Saiyuki
Elemental Gelade (slightly childish)
I would say Fruits Basket but no.

I think Hellsing would've been even better if they had developed the chick cop's character more. Often times her presence was just distracting cause I couldn't tell if she was supposed to be important anymore or not.
I agree but I like what they are doing with Ultimate. I don't know if you have watched the newer versions that are being made. I say being made, I don't think they have finished them yet but I haven't checked lately.

I just saw the regular original episodes I think. Like, I haven't even seen the OVA. I don't fully understand what an OVA is except for it being the plural form of ovum.
It means Original Video Animation. These are typically anime that do not go to television and go straight to disk. The Hellsing OVA is being made because the original version did not follow the manga as closely as the creators of Ultimate thought it should.

I really dislike most dubs, unless the voice actors are superior. If it's been dubbed though they'll have origional voices with subs attached, so it's not really an issue.

All English dubs sound like they're the same actors every time. And I'm sure that's at least half true.

Actually it is. There are only a handful of companies that bring the anime over and dub it so they use the same voice actors. That's one of my favorite things is identifying what character i have heard the voice from again. But I like these people, much like I like to watch movies with the same actor.

I've been able to identify the same seiyuu in different Japanese language anime, and I think that's far more interesting than doing the same with english dubbs. Getting to the point where I can half understand what's going on before reading the subbs has also been a part of the fun.

Typically OVA's are only 1-5 episodes and can range from 25 minutes to 60 minutes long.
I've not been able to find any groups subbing Hellsing Ultimate, but then again I haven't really tried either.
