FYI: I posted this here instead of the Barbarian forums because I wanted to see what everyone thought, not just those people who plan on playing Barbarians. I will be re-posting this on the Barbarian forum as well.
So after looking through the class skills (specifically passives), I came across something interesting and unique about the Barbarian that none of the other classes can even come close to. As most of us know, our characters will eventually have 3 passive skills. What I came across, and what I fear is going to make the Barbarian's damage much higher than any other class, is a combination of these 3 passive skills:
Weak Spot - Increases critical strike damage by 100%
Ruthless - Increases critical strike chance by 5% and increases critical strike damage by 50%.
Frenzied Attacks - When wielding two weapons, the character has 20% increased critical strike chance and 30% increased critical strike damage.
If we add this all up we see that the barbarian (while wielding 2 weapons) has a base 25% critical strike chance, and an extra 180% damage on critical strikes without any bonus from stats and/or items!.
I plan on playing a Wizard to begin with, but if I start a second character it will be a Barbarian with this setup for sure. What are your thoughts on this?

Playing a Wizard. Looking for Demon Hunters to play with.
I remember watching an interview with Jay Wilson where he said they didn't want wimpy Traits. Something along the lines of "+1% crit chance" just doesn't make for a very exciting choice. Based on that comment, I won't be surprised if it's possible to get a base 25% crit chance and a lot of extra crit damage.
Also remember that you won't have all your Trait slots unlocked until later in the game.
Yea, I understand that. But 25% chance to crit seems huge for passives alone. With high-end items added to this I'm sure that a Barbarian can achieve 50+% critical chance, which is pretty insane.
I must say that, as a future Wizard, I'm jealous ;x

in D2, it was possible to get at 80-90% crit on barb with pretty much standard gear. capped at 95%.
but AR made it so that 95% shown on screen isnt the actual effective crit rate. it takes a lot of math to figure out the DPS in D2, and im hoping that D3 will have some advanced calculators to crunch the full, effective DPS - counting CS, elemental, and whatever else they have.
currently we (or I) dont know enough about the mechanics of hit to establish whether or not 50% cs is OP or not. things to consider: opponent def, block, and skills; your cth, skills, hit checks.

From what I can tell, the base critical damage bonus appears to be around +50%. This is just from watching Beta streams; people who do ~10 damage noncrits are hitting for ~15 crits. It could easily be a bit higher or lower than +50%, but +50% is a nice round number.
Without having the Beta, I can't tell exactly how the Traits work. A "+100% critical damage bonus" could mean two things. It could be an additive +100% (making crit bonus +150%, or 2.5x normal damage) or it could be a multiplicative 100% (crit bonus 50% * 200% = +100%, or 2x normal damage). If you remember from old school WoW, the latter scenario was true - a +100% critical damage talent would allow you to crit for 2x damage instead of 1.5x.
If critical damage bonus traits are multiplicative like in WoW, there are still different ways they could multiply. For example, with two separate +100% and +50% bonuses you could get:
1) %CDB = 50% * 200% * 150% = 150% (Crit for 2.5x normal damage)
2) %CDB = 50% * (100%+100%+50%) = 125% (Crit for 2.25x normal damage)
While an additive +100% and +50% would get you:
3) %CDB = 50% + 100% + 50% = 200% (Crit for 3x normal damage)
Can anyone with the Beta verify how critical damage bonuses work in D3?

Was just thinking exactly the same thing, would be interested to know the answer.

Now on topic, it sounds like an interesting combo!
