based on what i perceived from the diablo 3 cinematic trailer and what i know of the Diablo lore, some things came to my mind story wise...
They showed Tyreal destroying the worldstone in the trailer, which made me think that the storyline has something to do with Tyreal. As much is i hate it, Tyreal becoming corrupted after the worldstone's destruction cannot be ruled out, until further news about the storyline has been released. Maybe Tyreal is burdened by the destruction of the Worldstone as much as the Champions who defeated the Prime Evils are tormented by their ordeal.
I've read around and i don't think that the worldstone shards have any storyline significance. unless somebody suggests that the worldstone shards become corrupted soulstones, which i will probably dismiss unless Blizzard says so...
Also, they haven't revealed why Deckard Cain returned to Tristram, which i feel is really important to what's gonna happen in Diablo III.
Another thing is the 2 surviving Lesser Evils. There is no way Blizzard would make Diablo III without mentioning Belial and Azmodan. Here's a theory. Andarial and Duriel do not have soulstones of their own, and may be able to come back from Hell, and the possibility of the 3 realms merging after the worldstone's destruction is existent...
What bothers me the most is the back and forth debate on Baal's soulstone. I believe that it wasn't destroyed by the Champions who defeated the Prime Evils. And if it wasn't destroyed, it can be a prominent catalyst in the storyline of Diablo III.
If anyone can answer this for me pls do...who is the girl in the cinematic trailer?...this question can bug me in my sleep until i know the answer...all i have gathered is that, she may probably Cain's companion or a homeless living in Tristram's Cathedral ruins. She can also be a survivor of the demonic army and found refuge, assuming she and the narrator are one and the same. (the narrator have said she knows what lurks in the darkness) but until i know, i may never sleep well...
a last note: the cities shown in the trailer...my gut feeling says the cities are Harrogath and Lut Gholein...it may be true, it may be false, but something is telling me to believe it to be true...
That is a trap set by Baal. Well, my idea only. I don't think Tyrael's sense of responsibility would stop him destroying the worldstone. Baal guessed that and put something in the worldstone, when Tyrael destroyed the worldstone, he turn to something we don't know.
Remebered in the last sence of ACT 5 in D2? Tyrael opened a portal for the players and said:"It is not safe here."
What's the point of that quote again? OF COURSE ITS NOR FREAGIN SAFE THERE! WITH THE WHOLE BLASTED CHAMBER COMING DOWN ATOP THEIR HEADS!!!!!
well, thx for clearing up some qns of mine (now to wait on what her role in all this is, whilst rocking on the floor and sucking my thumb) , now maybe i can sleep easier...but then again anticipation for D3 hangs in the balance...sleep may be the last thing on my mind (sorry, my mindset at this moment is that of deckard cain)

well duh right...Tyreal has already told the Champions about his plan to destroy the worldstone, but then again, he isn't sure himself what the outcome of its destruction is...all he knows is that its better than it staying corrupted, creating a portal from hell to sanctuary...
I doubt that theory since the Primel Evils are full of themself. They would never think they'd lose. Just my 2-cents.
i agree...they are full of themselves...they wouldn't have a backup plan...all that's left are the 2 lesser evils (maybe 4 if you count andarial and duriel, if you believe they can come back...)
If you read through Cain's journal at the diablo3.com site you'll learn that Baal's soulstone is in fact destroyed. A question that I ask myself is what would happen if Tyrael wouldn't destroy the corrupted Worldstone, what would the effects be? Not even Deckard Cain has a clue about this and trust the judgement of Tyrael.
i will check the journal again...there may be some truth to that...
Personally, I could only imagine she is Cain's new scholar upon which he passes on the Horadric teachings. This is purely my guess though.
by right, that may be the most logical answer to Leah's role...unless blizzard said "she's Deckard Cain's grandaughter" (kidding on the latter)...since Cain IS the last Horadrim, and he still lives after 20 years...
sorry, this was an accidental double post of the same thing...
but keep ur theories coming...the more we have, the more we can formulate what might happen on Diablo III...

i read cain's journal...they only said that "Baal is destroyed"...not "Baal's soulstone has been destoryed"...or anything along the lines of baal's soulstone's destruction...
whether its destroyed or not is still unknown...hopefuilly, Blizzard will clear it up for us...the online war about this has been waged for so long...its time for either a ceasefire or resolution to it...
a last note: the cities shown in the trailer...my gut feeling says the cities are Harrogath and Lut Gholein...it may be true, it may be false, but something is telling me to believe it to be true...
Actually, the second city shown is definitely Caldeum. When you click on the Caldeum page, the same image shown in the trailer is shown in the background.
We don't know what the first city is, but judging by what I said in this thread, the city is actually Ureh.
Quote from Atrumentis »
There is a huge city next to a river and on the side of a mountain, as well as near other mountains. The city also seems somewhat ruined. And while we see it, she says "...shadow crawls across our world".
- Note that Ureh is a city on the side of a massive mountain (Mt Nymyr), there are also other mountains nearby, there is a river next to it, and the city is currently in ruins. Also, the city comes alive when the mountains shadow crawls across it.
- Conclusion: This city appears to be The Lost City of Ureh! We might be visiting the famous Ureh! That might also mean that we will get to see Zayl the Necromancer.
(Ureh is the featured city in The Kingdom of Shadow novel by Richard A. Knaak, and can be found on both the DII and DIII map).
You see, it was I who told Diablo and his Brothers about the Soulstones and how to corrupt them. It was I who helped the Prime Evils mastermind their own exile to your world.
The plan we set in motion so long ago cannot be stopped by any mortal agency. Hell, itself, is poised to spill forth into your world like a tidal wave of blood and nightmares.
You and all your kind . . . are doomed.
the three brothers in my opinion schemed with izual long ago and planned their own defeat in the future, in mortal physical form they could not achieve true power and it was only a matter of time before they died, the plan was to exile themselves to sanctuary and find the worldstone, tyrael and the horadrim used the soulstones to trap them which is what they wanted, with diablo's escape, the plan was set in motion and comes the dark wanderer, he frees the other 2 brothers etc etc. and each do their own thing, mephisto delays the heroes a little bit, diablo's mortal form is slain and all attention from baal is put aside while he gathers the army of destruction. the soulstones are destroyed but seeing as how theyre corrupted, no cinematic scene shows what the soulstones exactly did to the prime evils, all we can assume is that they can be of no trouble
baal's part of the plan was to corrupt the worldstone and he succeeded in doing just that, each prime evil planned their defeat step by step as to return to the black abyss and poor all of hell into sanctuary; with the worldstone gone and it acting as a barrier between the three realms, plans have been set in motion and it was only a matter of time, 20 years or so for them to recover the power they lost to azmodan and belial and destroy sanctuary
sorry i didnt go into like really deep detail, i just want to get the basics out

then again, its quite deep as it is...maybe it is part of the Prime Evils' plan to conquer sanctuary...there is a lot of truth in what u wrote...
on the downside...its so like the ending of diablo 1...although it can be dismissed easily...there is no doubt that your theory will linger at the back of our minds...
Only God and Blizzard knows everything in Diablo III...He won't give it because it is not time to tell us...and Blizzard won't give it because they're not ready to tell us...

according to izual
Tyrael was a fool to have trusted me!
