for those who havnt seen it before, here it goes...again
Tyrael was peirced by a worldstone shard and baals wanderig soul entered tyraels body via the shard using it as a sort of makeshift soulstone thus creating an evil with all the powers of heaven.
Baal with all his new power decides to ressurect his two soulstone-smashed brothers back to life as zombies under his control thus the zombie-like Diablo on the alleged diablo 3 box cover
Baal is attacked by hadriel and several other angels when he visits diablo's resting place in hopes to zombifie him but Baal escaped and still managed to manipulate his brothers corpse
Baal and Diablo proceed to attack travincal while the new council some strong mages and a few angels await. Baal with his new powers and zombie brother smashed the holy defence and ressurect Mephisto.
Meanwhile in Hell: Belial and Azmodan grow impatient and take control of hell in Baal's absence and start infusing the demons with the defiled shards of the worldstone giving them a boost in growth, power, and demonic aura
belial betrays azmodan and dispatches him with one blow. belial consumes azmodans soul with help from a corrupt Horadrim. He becomes a true force to be reconed with.
Baal returns to see his former demons under belials reign outside the seventh gate of hell... The stage is set...
Shard? the worldstone was only shattered into shards after Baal was befeated.
Baal was using the corrupted power of the world stone as well as his own dark maigics to stop Tyrael from entering the worldstone chamber this is weakened upon Baals defeat, allowing tyrael entry

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
ok, here is my idea i've been thinkin of it for a while. After reading the books i became to realize there are many other evil things about the earth, like Bartuc, ancient cities, possesive demons, and patient ancient creatures. I believe that the whole corruption of Tyrael and cain could be true, considered you only happened to rescue him from tristam, Why was he still alive and in a cage(suspicous) and just happens to be happy to follow you around. And Tyrael just happens to be following you around too but can't help cuz he life force is fading or some other balogna. Maybe him and cain were there just to get you to kill baal, who meant to use the worldstone to create hordes of monsters. But i think i read in one of the books that if evil gets strong it is rebounded just as strongly with something good, which means the stone would have been sealed or something.
I've also noticed that mephisto and diablo had soulstones, i know diablo did because in many places it describes how the wanderer fromt he first game inserted the "horn" into his skull, which lead to his turning into diablo. Maybe Diablo's soulstone was picked up by some sort of lesser evil and made it stronger, or some other person became in pocession of it, and the only way to stop it is to destroy the soulstone, which there will be some other random hammer to break it with.
Along with everything else i've noticed that Blizzard is using alot of gods from Semetic folklore(you can even find that out using the dictionary) which includes Lilith, baal, and belial along with some others, maybe that will have a play in everything.
diablo and mephistos soulstones WERE DESTROYED, when will people learn this. god i get tired of reading ideas about soulstones. the stones are destroyed and their dont need them anyway.

go watch the fourth movie again or is it the fifth, anyway its the same movie inwhich mephistos stone is destroyed. a large hand is clearly seen smashing a stone of azure (mephisto) and one of crimson (diablo) the only stone not shown being destroyed is one of the sun (baal), but since the other two were you can pretty savely assume that storyline wise Baals stone is destroyed as well

The main char kills baal
baals soul escapes
tyrael shows up and destoys world stone
a shard of the world stone gets stuck in tyraels body
baals wandering soul siezes the oportunity and enters tyraels body via world stone shard
thus controling him
killing a prime evil forces their essence into their soulstone. destroying the stone releases or traps their essence in the abyss.
and i would prefer if tyrael not be corrupt, this is a rather over used concept, kerrigan, arthas, sylvannas, griswold, the warrior, the sorcerer, the rogue

Diablo 3 needs to start out in time before 1 and 2 has ever taken place. It could turn into one of those in order restore the future the hero must go back in time games. If the hero went back in time thier would be a lot off cool concepts and fanboy concepts though!
well guys i'm not too sure if you have discussed this but meh i'll just type what i think
k i saw people mentioning that the angels are looking down at the earth or something.. so let's take some ideas from WC3.. you know the story mode has the illidan locked in some prison cell? well what if the angels blame something on tyreal and send him to jail.. and when someone helps the guy out he turns evil and tries to get as much power as possible making him the strongest devil on .. earth?.. once he does have the power he doesn't want to battle all the angels and wahtever alone and summons the old demons back to create their own legions and take over the earth
I'm not very fond of the Cain idea, but good concept. I just got done playing it again, and I talked to Deckard Cain about the 7 Tombs (in Lut Golein) and he said Tyrael did something and no one found out why, or something like that. I'm beginning to think that he will be the main villain. Maybe the worldstone wasn't corrupted when he said he had to destroy it because it was.
Interesting theory. And I believe what you were referring to about Cain was when he said, "Where the actions of Hell often seem straight forwardly bent on destruction, the motives of Heaven are unfathomable."
I've wondered that with the soulstone destroyed and thus the link from Sanctuary to Heaven/Hell gone, perhaps there'd be a game about another different world that was created. That those angels and demons still have influence over.
This of course seems very unlikely since I think Blizzard likes to develop a single universe for each game and then develop that and allow it to evolve.
Have many of you read the second Diablo book? I forgot the demon's name but it wasn't any of the prime or lesser evils. It was this other demon who was very patient and calculating and waited till the time was right before it began exerting its influence. And it didn't seem to exist in Hell at all but some other dimension. So it's possible a third Diablo could just have a completely new made up demon.
And I really don't see a game where you'd fight an evil Tyrael. Tyrael was just enigmatic, a sort of maverick angel who didn't necassarily agree with either side. Obviously he was against Hell, but disagreed with Heaven that they shouldn't interfere with Sanctuary because if Hell was going to interfere, they might as well have.
Do you recall, friends, the mention of the Sin War? Blizzard has recently released the first installment of a book series chronicling the events of that time. The ideas of choosing sides seems the likely choice from diablo 3's story line and also I feel the best. Diablo 3 should not go forward in time, but rather back to the Sin War, and let you fight as mortals for good or evil. New classes could be Haradrim for good or Diabloist (a conjurer of demons) for evil.

Something like this : The destruction of the Worldstone has stuffed up the human world...the Hero is sent back in time (or something) to stop Diablo and his Brothers from ever being created (well...SOMETHING had to create them, haden't they?) I dunno...just a thought.
I don't think a prequel would be necassarily a bad thing. I just think it would be appropriate to complete a trilogy, then perhaps in the future do a prequel. But I still know either way I'd more than settle for any new Diablo release.
