So, the question got answered by shaggy (page 3, near the bottom feel free to upvote). Basically even if you are only playing a single player client-based version of the game is still uses the server code to connect and the only technical difference is the fact it calls LocalHost instead of B.Net IP. What this means is hackers can use this server code to learn ways of "tricking" the server and be 1 step closer to hacking the online service therefore it makes sense to not have this mode.
I think we're just having some fun mocking each other now if you guys wanna join in otherwise...
Do you really think the economy is the only reason why hacks would hurt the integrity of the game? How many motherfuckin' times does this have to be explained?
I'll mention one of thousands of hacks that D2 had that would certainly affect your gaming experience. Flash-hack. Only saw it a few times in D2 pub games. But what would happen is a player in the game with this hack could make YOUR screen flash brightly like a strobe light.

Economy......pffffft
And on the likely low chance single player causes such hacks to appear and even lower chance u then end up in a pub game with someone using it you simply leave? Wouldn't want to play with such a person anyway so this is nothing but a plus for u I mean seriously outside of people finding out a hack which causes you to actually lose something I really don't see much negative to other hacks. People wanna bot, speedhack, find a way to break the game, even cause graphical issues on ure client while in the same game as you? Worst case scenario you leave the game and join another none of this effects you nearly as much as the gain from having a single player mode.
The only damaging hack I can see is a hack discovered which gets them into ure PC via d3 or causes you to lose your character/items etc. and all of that would be server-side stuff so not really hacks that would be discovered via single player.

"LOW CHANCE"?
HA!
I'm not gonna have a back and forth with you, done it before and it's literally like talking to a brick wall. With ridiculous frightening speed, MOST of the pub games you go into, even games with "friends", you'd have people with invincible characters, barbarians that are 25 foot tall and thousands of other stupid hacks. Rendering you to either play alone or deal with it.
Right there, you shouldn't have to leave because some asshat is hacking the game. Just face it, everything is online these days. Don't like it? Unplug your internet and have fun.
Tbh, I just find it hard to believe that a single player mode would cause such a huge amount of game-breaking hacks like giant characters and super speed to be introduced into the online side. I mean theres already a semi-working hacked offline mode out there which could be used to generate such hacks yet still they don't exist.
Also, with or without hacks asshats can ruin a game and make you leave that's simply what it's like to play with rands so that wouldn't really change I mean why would u want to play with somebody with that sort of attitude even if they didn't have hacks? I don't ask for single player because i'm from the "stone age" but because it brings a huge amount more to the game from just some trolling cheats fun to loads of mods etc. If you can't accept single player brings something more to the game your just closed minded.
Tbh ure childish gif is about just as informative as your previous response, just a bunch of stuff you made up to try and create an argument. If you could display any level of proof that single player modes causes the sort of damage you claim it does instead of just saying "i'm right cus I am" that would be great as all i've seen so far is empty reasons.

What do you want me to do, whip out a big 'ol crayon and spell it out for you?
I'll post this for you and ask you, how do you think a player created this mod?
It was done because offline = all game files are stored on your PC. Hackers can take this relative data and transfer it to the online client (though Oblivion has no online mode). Diablo 3 would spiral into a maelstrom of fuckery....the integrity lost forever. And you don't care. A thousand people could come in here and explain this to you and yet you would continue your misguided diatribe.
Not everything is BoA. "Just" legendaries/sets and crafting materials. The latter you would be able to dupe like hell (as on the console version), along with gold, and craft a million items. And who knows, maybe there would even be a hack to make BoA legendaries tradable. For example, by going offline and changing timestamp of drop/list of eligible people to trade the item with.
Your other argument is that the game is essentially a single player game; which is not true. Yes, it is a huge drawback if we can't freely trade legendaries with our friends. But to go so far to say that that renders multiplayer useless is plain ignorant and you shouldn't be surprised by some of the reactions.
The only valid argument for removing the always online requirement is that people in remote regions can't play HC. It's a serious one, and the one that I can understand, as well as I understand the anger of people who would like to play HC but can't because of this. But to use the economy as a reason is just a joke and dismisses the fact that despite the BoA restriction there are some new incentives for group play in RoS (skills revamp etc).
Did you really just link a single player mod as proof of how people having single player can effect the ONLINE game? How do you expect them to transfer it to the online client? Hack into Blizzard servers and store it there, do you have even the slightest idea what your saying? Mods and cheats are very different to hacks, a mod or cheat changes your local files which is fine for single player because everything is local, a hack finds a way to alter settings which are stored on online servers via some sort of break, you can't just apply a mod to an online server...
I mean just think about what your saying for even a second, if what you say is true then every online game that's existed would have the issues your claiming, instead of none. In FPS like CoD + BF they have single player modes yet people arn't walking around as invincible giants 1 shotting everyone while moving at light speed. WoW has private servers which is effectively the same as single player from a hackers perspective yet that's not hacked to death, I mean give me one single example of a game with single player and a separate online mode which has active anti-cheat protection and yet has the issues your claiming.
Please, actually look into this because your making yourself look like a fool.
The difference between online and local is very simple ok you can open your drive and change your files, but you can't open Blizzards drive and change theres.
/e
I feel like people are misunderstanding something, I am not saying have your single player and online characters the same, i'm not saying save everything locally. I'm saying have it like Diablo 2, where you have your locally saved single player characters and then your B.Net protected online characters so you wouldn't just be able to set your character to "offline" and then change stuff about.
And seriously am I not speaking to gamers here? the ONLY valid argument for single player is for remote regions? Do you not know what mods are? Have u not seen games thrive for years after the developers gave up because the community didn't I mean you need look no further than Diablo 2 for that, the community has created custom patches for the game which is updated to this day and mods with completely new maps, full 1080p resolutions, abilities, classes everything. How on earth is that not a valid argument for it?
Just because you believe it wouldn't effect hacking in the game doesn't mean that's the case. Having the game in a single player mode would mean that all files would have to be accessible in a way that would make hacking considerably more rampant. There's a reason it takes a few seconds for the game to setup a game for you, because it accesses files that aren't on your local system and are only provided by a remote server. This prevents hacking considerably, and giving offline access would completely negate that.

The problem with this is it could lead to potential hacking of multiplayer. It's not just as easy as "give players offline access" and could cause serious issues with the game.
Your argument of modding, while somewhat valid, doesn't necessarily hold water because it's not up to us as to whether or not a game should be modded or not, but the developers. There's nothing wrong with wanting a game that they control that isn't overrun by mods to keep it alive when the developers are as passionate about providing a game people will enjoy. This isn't a random small company who could go out of business next year and therein stop all support for this game, so there's no need for user involvment for patches/fixes, and there likely won't ever be.
It also shouldn't take away from a game just because the developers choose to not allow it to be modded. Yes, it can add to the game, but I don't buy that a game, especially this one, can be worse because the developers didn't allow it. I play my fair share of games that have communities that keep them alive via mods, but when you have developers who aren't going anywhere and will be supporting the game likely until well after the next version is out there's no need for the community to be given such access.
But I don't get the negative, i'm not saying use mods to keep it alive but simply as an additional feature. If you or anyone can give me an example of how having a single player mode could lead to the potential hacking of multiplier because I don't see how it does. All of the files are already out there, hackers have access to local files and have read them all they simply don't have the ability to put them together and make the game work as it should. The game already got exploited to hell, we had invincible wizards and invincible barbs, we had a HUGE amount of dupes, we have bots able to farm MP10, a single player mode isn't going to cause the game to get exploited any more than it already has been.
Why would it be overrun by mods? Just like Diablo 2 the separate closed B.Net of the game would remain the clean version that Blizzard intended whilst the offline mode is the modders area and both can live together there's no need to pick one or the other. There is only ONE reason for always online, and that is money it's DRM to prevent people from illegally obtaining the game if you can give me one other reason with some actual proof behind it i'm all ears but all I see now is claims simply arn't true.

I don't know the internal workings of the game, but my guess would be it's similar to how WoW is setup in that the majority of files are stored locally, but you play the game while accessed to a server that limits the use of those files. Any changes made before connecting to the server are controlled by the program checking them before accessing the server and rectifying any issues. However, it's safe to assume that it's much more advanced than this because I don't believe there's anywhere you can actually access all the required files, specifically the server files. If this were the case we'd fully capable private servers of the game available, like with WoW. If I'm wrong though please correct me. But, I don't think it's just a case of "they can't figure it out".
WoW is also a great example of this getting out of hand, as there are various hacking incidents that happen in it routinely and effect gameplay at times. For example, I recall a potential hack of being able to clone specific items. FPS are also plagued with hacks as well. So just because there aren't notable instances recorded of a game like Diablo 3- keep in mind a lot of hacks aren't reported by companies - doesn't mean it doesn't, or couldn't, happen.
Lastly, nothing you've said has proven that the game needs an offline version. Blizzard has their reasons, and while money may very well be a part of it you can't simply chalk it up to just that when you don't know their actual reasons. You're speculating, not stating facts. The only viable argument against it has been the Hardcore issues for people in remote regions. Modding isn't necessarily a viable argument against it, because while it is beneficial it's not a negative thing for a game to lack modding, especially when a game has developers dedicated to it for it's longevity.
You know Diablo 2, good. And you know closed battle.net, also good. Then you should also know that closed beta supposed to prevent hacks, cheats, and dupes happening. You should also know that it didn't. What happened is, people duped items, hacked items, used cheats like maphack, even tranferred their open battle.net characters to closed battle.net after a ladder reset. I don't know how they did that, but they did that and ruined online experience for so many people.
Now come 2013, Diablo 3's console version has an offline mode. And do you know what happened? Hacked and duped items. Again, people managed to play with game's files and managed to alter online play. But it doesn't, we have seen it on 2000's, and we see it now.
Imagine that you are playing happily with two of your friends, and opened the game to public for the XP/MF bonus. Then someone with a 100% movement speed and 1billion dps guy joined your game, and started clearing every single area without you. Then called you all noob and leaved. Would this be fun? (In before telling us not to open it to public: Why should we punished if some people abuse the game? Isn't the people stealing our fun are to blame? ("The thief was not to blame at all?" as said in my country.))
Let's say you are staying clean, no dupes ect. Then a guy joins your game and you play together for some time. When you return to the town, he drops a weapon which will give a huge bonus to you (but clearly not hacked) and tells you he doesn't needs it so you can take it. Would you? How would you know if it is duped or not? If you take the item, can you say you are clean after that moment?
Now you ask for an offline mode for Diablo 3. Even though we have two examples of how this can ruin online play for whole community, do you still want it? Can't you see why people defending online-only requirement? Blizzard's only reason can be DRM, we can't know that; however, we can see that it also benefits us, the players.
Once again people have made comments without fulling looking into it, if you even do 1 google search on the console version stuff ull see that the your online character files are saved locally and this is why people were able to do it, it wasn't because they learnt how to hack single player and the recreated that online. This is something that Blizzard said even before the release and they said they knew this meant duping and stuff was easier but planned to bring a different type of game to the console and not the thing i'm proposing to do.
Also, you guys seem to be in this little bubble and not realize that Diablo 3 was and is rampant with hacks anyway from invincible characters to duped items this all happened regardless of the fact single player didn't exist and it all happened within the first month. The simple fact is theres just no proof out there that a single player mode increases the amount of hacks that exist in a game because the main challenging part of a hack is changing server-side stuff not client side and this is an issue that a single player mode wouldn't assist in. Ultimately there is only 1 reason for no Single Player and that's DRM, as many games are these days the fear that the game may of been pirated and thus the company lose money caused the players to lose out.
I guess no one recalls the horrible lag caused by all of the hacking that went on during D2. Playing on b.net was impossible for the longest time. Multiple minute lag spikes, lovely black walls of death, etc.
Believe it or not, there is a reason beyond DRM for making games online only and not revealing your code base to the public.
I'm aware that Diablo 2 had hacking, but where is your proof this was caused because it had single player? This is the point i'm trying to make, every online game with or without a single player mode is rampant with hacks that's just something that will happen from MMOs to FPS even Diablo 3 is rampant with hacks, so where is it that people have this unmovable belief that having a single player mode would make it any worse?

Umm, seriously? If you can't process how having 100% of the code base at your disposal makes it infinitely easier for people to hack then there is no point in having any sort of discussion with you about the topic. I'm not saying DRM isn't a reason why a company would make this decision, I'm saying to not consider any of the other motivations for an always online game is absolutely naive and tin-foil hatish.
