They're unique because they have unique names, art and backstories. They're 'artistically unique', instead of 'statistically unique'.

Following on that note i think the items look better in your inventory in D2 than they do in D3, i would say the items looked more realistic if i had to put my finger on what i liked more about the "in" inventory artwork of D2 items.
The problem comes when you have a Barbarian specific item that rolls.. int.
Then you want an old fashion D2 "unique" item.
this is still an issue i think i have picked 12+ legendary items(i've kept them all except 1) and am yet to find one that i have used on any of my characters. that to me seems criminal, there was literally no reward for me in seeing those items accept pre-identification.

If yes, I rest my case
When are people going to understand the basic logic behind why some things are the way they are in D3.

Errr. Crafted necklaces?
For most people it's pretty difficult to argue that legendaries are "useless" even if they're bad since most people can benefit from necklace crafts. Ever since I started crafting amulets I had a lot more respect for "disposable" legendaries, honestly.
It's not an ideal system, but, when I found three Ivory Towers within 90 minutes of play it made me chuckle instead of rage.
I will have to go back and read pages 2-5 cause I'm not sure where the discussion has gone
Despite the main story being a let down to my hopes of a story I could really love, the game is so much fun now and I am enjoying all the art assets, the atmosphere and nuances they set in the game. I am also very excited to see what is announced in Nov at Blizzcon!
Bring on itemization, PvP and the expansions, says I!

nope all my gear is self found. and its not even that good - 40k dps

have not dabbled with the crafted necklaces yet will look into it, have been focusing on the other crafts so far, dont think i have the recipe yet either. But i think the point still stands that finding 12+ legendaries which i am yet to equip on my main (if i got a barb upto 60 i could find a use for them) is a fairly underwhelming situation, my experience with legendaries has just not been a good one so far, finding them, using them etc has yielded very little enjoyment.

That is quite weird.
If you're using only self-found gear, the chances of a lvl 60 legendary having stats that are actually an improvement to your rares is (in %) very high. Only a few can actually be called useless - either because their stats haven't really been properly upgraded with the legendary patch (mostly weapons) or because they're niche items (like Frostburn Gauntlets).
What legendaries that you found had such bad base-stats? And what are your current items/MF?

well half of what i have found are weapons which are horribly bad , quarter are class specific items not for my class and the rest are bad rolls, the best of the bunch is probably an adariels visage with 213 strength although unfortunately it got +24% fire damage taken. the terrible highlight of the bunch are 2 nail biters with medium to low rolls a nail biter would have to roll pretty well to compete with even a solid rare. i guess you could just put it down to RNG....but even so...that many legendaries and still not to have had 1 which is an upgrade for my main...
http://us.battle.net...8/hero/20748303 heres my profile as you will see there are a couple of slots that should not be hard to upgrade esp shoulders, belt, bracers, boots, chest but alas they continue to evade me...i can switch a few items round to up my mf abit or my dps but its not worth the trade off in term's of survivability. lots of sidegrades as my friend calls it.

I looked at your profile, and given your current amulet, you should be happy for some "garbage" legendaries as you certainly have use for them. Most people who are crafting amulets get upset because they run out of fiery brimstones. Just sayin.
I understand it's not your favorite way to "use" them, but crafted amulets are BiS for most players and, therefore, bad legendaries lead to more shots at amazing amulets and, therefore, firey brimstones are not useless.
Also, bitching about something Blizzard is working on fixing is kinda pointless. It's like the douchetrolls who insisted on bitching about monster density after Blizzard said they're working on fixing it. It's on their plate, it will move to the PTR when they have something that's worthy of public testing. Until it hits the PTR, though, most of our feedback is useless - sitting around on interwebz forums saying "legendaries sux woe is me" really, truly, accomplishes nothing. It's just how the game will be until they get that fix to us.

i never said fiery brimstones are useless i said that finding that many legendaries and not one of them being worth equipping is not a good thing, its nice that i can take a shot at a nice necklace or wateva from salvaged goods, but i don't think it sends the right message to have legendaries that are so frequently not worth equipping, because that is a totally unrewarding experience.
so you choose to sit on the interweb bitching about how other peoples bitching is pointless?
what i said was that it was still an issue you countered saying it was not because of crafts and i say the crafts are nice but not a solution. that's how i follow the argument i don't really see how bitching and whether blizz is working on it is relevant to that argument....unless your trying to say that im using the forums in an inappropriate way or whatever which would be quite a tangent to the previous discussion.
also im not foolish enough to believe that i'm trying to change the game here, which you seem to assume me and other douchetards are in that final paragraph. im sure some are misguided enough to think they might have some influence, some of the muppets that scream their frustrations out in incoherent ways are just that- frustrated and looking for a forum to express themselves to anyone that cares to listen and comment.
yeah i cant communicate the tone of my last post, so it probably appears reactionary but really i'm just countering because i like to argue. it's part of the reason why i enjoy forums.
I'm going to preface this by saying that I, too, want better legendaries and I, too, yearn for the itemization patch.
Let me put it this way, and maybe you can understand why you've gotten under my skin. Imagine you work at a company that makes gizmos. You only make black gizmos for some reason. You are the customer service dude and you field 95% of the phone calls and emails from your customers.
Over the past couple of months you've noticed that there is an increasing amount of feedback asking for white gizmos. An unusually large volume of your calls and emails boil down to "can I get that in white?" You take it to your boss, he takes it to a meeting with other corporate bigwigs, and they decide that it will be a good business decision to update the assembly line to handle ANY color. The problem is that those updates are going to take you three months to complete.
You, as the customer service guy, decide to send out an email to all your current clients informing them that, due to their feedback you are making changes on your assembly line and anticipate the ability to paint their gizmo orders any color they want, but that the changes will take approximately three months so as not to interfere with current production.
Most of your customers seem pretty happy at this news. But one day a guy calls you up and says "Hey, you know, I'd really like white gizmos too. I'm sick of black gizmos." And you say "We are working on that, sir. There's about eight weeks left on those assembly line updates and then we'll be able to paint your gizmos and color you desire." He response "Yeah, but black gizmos suck."
At some point you have to just calm the fuck down and realize that Blizzard acknowledged the problem and is working on it, stop worrying about how many legendaries you've crushed, and be thankful you get some amulet crafts out of it because for the time being it is what it is. There's no amount of "legendaries sux" posts that's going to make the itemization patch hit sooner.
I get that you want to blow off steam that you crushed a bunch of legendaries, but realize that most of us have crushed far more than twelve of them and that it's just how things work until we get that itemization patch. There's just no way around it so you're better off coping with it and not letting it get to you as opposed to continuing to hammer at a point that Blizzard conceded (and began working on fixing) months ago.
Just like the gizmo factory, some angry customer on the phone bitching that black gizmos suck isn't going to get the assembly line painting gizmos red and blue and white and yellow any faster. That customer is sure within his right to express that opinion, but in light of the email blast, it does make him kinda a raging douchebag who needs to simmer down a bit. Petulence never speeds things up.
if i were the angry customer which you're suggesting i am i would actually say that i'm happy that your working on it, but i think you should have got it right in the first place you had a perfectly good working model to build upon and you screwed it up. you did have an extremely effective and popular product which incorporated gizmo's of all colours and for some reason you ignored that in your upgrade and went back to selling black gizmo's only.
itemization is the core of Diablo it lives and dies by it, how after 10 years of development do you not have the most essential component at a quality which at least matches the predecessor?
but as i say, i don't post with any expectation that it will affect blizzard in anyway so me being the angry customer who calls up complaining after the announcement is not a good analogy, my posts are not addressed to blizzard.
i'm glad there working on itemization but the work they are doing is to bring it to an acceptable level IMO, to fix what is currently a pretty disgusting and foolish situation, redeemed somewhat by the new crafting recipes.

Ahhh right the "JUST DO WHAT D2 DID" argument.
You know you can just install D2 and enjoy the fuck out of that instead of bombarding us with your petulent whining about D3. You're 100% free to play any other game you wish until D3 is fixed. No one is forcing you to play a game you dislike - the only person who is making the choice to play D3 for you is.... YOU. The fact that you're still playing it, however, leads me to believe that D2 isn't actually better than D3 and that for all the hot air you're moving around the game ain't so bad.
Cause, if it had such an INEXCUSABLE CORE FLAW, you'd have moved on to something else.
And, for the record, D2's uniques suffered much the same issues that D3s do. Of those 23 helms maybe 3 or 4 of them were actually desireable. Isn't that exactly what you're bitching about being SO COMPLETELY INEXCUSABLE about D3 and then have the absolute audacity to hold up D2s itemization as a paragon of perfection from which the D3 team should have learned?
I'm sure someone could dig up posts where I blasted Blizzard for making such bad legendaries on launch. I don't disagree with the idea that they SHOULD have been better. But, they weren't. That's reality. Once Blizzard said that they didn't think the legendary revamp was good enough and that they were going to re-revamp it, I backed off. What more can I demand? A time machine so that I can go assault Jay Wilson to make D3 better than it was? Let's get real here.
EDIT
It's cool to be critical, it's even cooler to man up and post your own well-thought-out suggestions. What drives me up a wall is this "D2 did everything perfectly, just copy that shit" mentality. If that's what you truly believe then go play D2. I guarantee you'll be back to D3 within a month. And there's NOTHING wrong with that. I still install Final Fantasy 7 from time to time. That doesn't mean FF7 > D3. It just means I have a wildly nostalgic fondness for that game and that, sometimes, taking a break from a game (Diablo included) is a good thing.
