i was looking at some of the rune effects, noticed that some dont unlock untl your a way higher level.
some seem like an obvious advantage, while others seems like a strategic decision, more mana, or more damage ? etc
so my question to you is do you always just go with the next best rune?
and if not why such extreme requirements? some dont unlock until level 59, and yet while some seem like an obvious advantage, some look still useful if you used the level 22 requirement rune, ie for more defense, but less damage etc.
since there is still strategy, why such extreme linear progression of what runes you can have?
looking at the skill calculator it looks linear, one unlocks at level 22, another unlocks at level 38 another at 46 etc etc
therefor linear progression of what comes next, do you always just get what unlocked last? is the question.
my argument was, if you dont, then there is obviously some strategy, and if there is obviously some srategy, then why the high requirements ie some dont unlock until level 58 etc
The idea is that they want you to keep getting new skills throughout the game. What is the fun in starting at level 1, with every single skill available. Levels would do almost nothing for you but a few stat boosts. Now every time i level my new character I can get a new skill, passive, or rune. It provides a more entertaining and rewarding leveling experience. I use the first unlocked rune on my monk for a few skills, and the final unlock for others, it is all opinionated and depends on your play style etc.
I guess my real question is, why do i have to wait for level 40 something? to get the rune that makes my ray of frost turn into a cyclone that circles around me and becomes a close range spell? XD
i sort of get your point but level 58? give me a @#$@$#en break, if it depends on peoples play style atleast have the last one unlock a little earlier, if its not just this one that unlocks at level 58 is definitely better than the one that unlocked at level 30 why make this guy who has the play style that dictates he get the one at level 58 suffer?
hmm ? if it all depends why should the guy who wants that rune suffer more than the one who likes the rune that unlocked at level 20?
hmmm? why should this player get punished for his particular play style?
You are not being punished for your play style. You are simply given skills to try out during the leveling process to slowly develop a play style. If you were to move the "Last rune" to earlier levels that would completely defeat the purpose of a rewarding leveling process... Then you would have every rune / skill combination at level 30, getting over 10 skills per level that you could try out. That to me is just overkill. I remember being sad that I never got my Seven-sided strike Fulmination rune until level 60...guess what? I hated it at 60, felt stupid, sure someone might like it, but even though i really wanted it the rune just didn't fit my play style.
What i guess i am trying to say is, being eased into all the skills is a good thing, try out all the skills, don't have a closed mind. Try out skills as you level to help you get a feel for your class.
The game does not end at 60 and a lot of people would say that after 60 is when the real game begins, so leading up to that what you get really doesn't matter (except to show you different options for play style)
Runes are not based on level, sure they unlock at certain levels, but that's it, they unlock to be used anytime you want, so pick the rune that best fits your play style.
Think of each rune as an upgrade to that skill, and not to the other runes.

Or did I misunderstand you? Your post is kinda confusing.
