i think the new skill change and runes are BULL. they are DUMBING THE GAME DOWN just to release it?
If you really believe this I feel sorry for you.
The changes make sense and it makes leveling passed 30 more fun now.
Your second argument being "everyone gets the same things", well, GEAR is what we farm for. GEAR is the #1 driving force behind everything in the Diablo world.
Runes are just there to diversify builds and add customization. To that effect, this change works out much better and I've been waiting for this to happen.
yeah gear is #1, the only thing. have you ever PVPd in WOW? the factors that make you unique and strong are talents, gear, enchants, gems, and much more. the more things that make you unique the better. diablo3 has given everything to you, only thing now is gear? thats it? so i can go on the AH and buy legendary items and be super pro now cause i have the best stuff. having different leveled runes kind of made you want to MF in inferno for better runes than someone who isnt good enough for inferno and only gets lvl 4-5 runes in hell.

...Been playing Diablo Since Diablo 1 came out...and haven't stopped playing Diablo since...
I can appreciate people being a little disappointed with runes not being items and rather now being unlocked per level but that's not ALL of your uniqueness going out the window.obviously the weapons, armor, ect. Is the primary focus for your customizing and this doesn't mean we're not going to see other ways of customizing skills, powers, ect.this is going to be the launch of the game, what's a better way to find out from a developers stand point to find out how to make us happy is to get the game out and go from there.Through updates, patches, expansions, who knows what they may have in store for us.So calm down!!!
If you would have read my previous posts, I said old runes accomodated from uber casuals to super hardcore. New runes - for casuals who can clear Hell. They wont have to even step foot in Inferno, let alone farm it to get the max runes rank, its freely given on a plate.
Again I ask.. So what? the minor increase that a level 7 over level 6 rune would give can be made up in other gear. Just because you won't see a rune doesn't mean you won't see enough stuff drop to keep your interest or the interest of anyone who considers themselves "hardcore. It's just one less item type in a sea of items. It's not like anyone is going to get to inferno, see the shiny new loot and say "what, no runes? I'm done" and quit.
So what if they have the same runes as you. They also have the same skills. But you can still go get those awesome pieces of armor they may never get.
Which part of "D3 old runes vs D3 new runes" isnt clear? D2 has nothing to do with the topic, neither does D1, or Torchlight, or whatever.
Fine, taken, but I still say it's silly to say there's not as much diversity in drops based on a system we never got to see and therefore never existed to us.
I don't at all think these changes are "dumbing down" the game. As several have stated here and elsewhere, the sheer complexity of the former iteration was prohibitive to say the least. Before patch 13, there were literally tens of thousands of ways runes and skills could be swapped, not to mention a dearth of activity when leveling past 30. This new system addresses both of these issues quite nicely.
My one big concern is the same as many others, which is the proliferation of "cookie cutter" builds. Unfortunately there's no way in beta to really tell if the rune you unlock at a later level is always going to simply be better than the ones you had already. I really hope in nightmare/hell/inferno that we see dynamic increasing of rune effectiveness across the board by level, to allow all five runes for any given skill to be viable in various builds. If this is not the case, then we're going to end up with only a handful of builds at 60, and that would be a serious blow to this title's quality.
