I like how people act like a baby wanting candy , my book was delayed also, I can wait shit happens
Yeah pre-ordering something and expecting it to actually ship on the day it's supposed to be released sure is "acting like a baby wanting candy." Totally.

The way people are complaining, it is. Blaming blizzard... just... It really does blow my mind. IE has also been doing twitter on eaach update saying whats going on..
Its ok not to be thrilled, noone is going to be thrilled that we dont get to read the book, I was looking forward to today big time. But I also know that real life happens, and going to a forum and QQing about it.. solves nothing other than bring everyone down for no reason.

/agree
Some of us have jobs, and like to plan things for our days off. When our days off are screwed up because someone didn't adhere to their contract, well, that's something that people without jobs probably don't understand, since they have plenty of time and "Can wait".

So whenever "real life happens" (i.e. something goes wrong) everyone should sit down and shut up and just deal with it? Look, I know it's just a book, and it's not a big deal. But let's be honest. You'll defend Blizzard no matter what happens, for any reason whatsoever. I get it. I like their games too. But if no one ever complained, nothing would ever get fixed. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that.
So, yeah, I'm gonna complain when they announce a release date and then miss that date and don't even mention that anything is wrong until the day of release. And I'm going to partially blame Blizzard for picking such a flaky publisher.

Thats the issue right there "nothing would ever get fixed" What did anyones complaining just fix? Anything? Nope, nothing. Cause they already knew the issue and were working on it as fast as possible to get it to the distributors.
What I hate is when people complain for no reason (aka when it wont fix anything, aka when there is nothing to be fixed) things happen.
There are loads of threads were peopel complain, you won't ever see me post in those, because Though I may not agree with w/e there issue is, I can see why they would want to. So dont give me that.
My issue is when there is no reason (aka "there is nothing to fix") all it does is create a massive negative wave with no benefits in site.
And dont even get me started on the "for picking a flaky publisher" what? So no publishers have this issue? I worked at a borders book store for 3 years. Don't even give me that one.
edit: to make it clear, being mad about not haven your book, like everyone is, and complaining about it, or two different things.
Actually, they weren't really working on the issue until a lot, and I mean a lot, of complaints went out. Before the complaints really started piling up, they were actually going to not rush it before Christmas, and now they're going to work on trying to get it out. Without complaints, we probably wouldn't of gotten -any- information from them. Now we know that they're (Finally) working on it. Not to mention people -like- to vent. It's a human coping mechanism.
INSIDE EDITION is to blame, THEY are the ones haven issues getting this stuff out, WAS A LAST SECOND THING. they are getting them out THIS WEEK, by FRIDAY AT THE LATEST.
People take a dang chill pill and stop getting mad at everything you can.
Blizzard has nothing to do with this delay, and can do nothing about this delay, and knew nothing about this delay, it , was, the, publisher.
get mad at them , and stop QQing at blizzard.
Molster - Blizzard is just AS RESPONSIBLE as Inside Edition is for this mess.
Simplify it. You are Blizzard. You know that you have a HOT GAME coming out and when you announce something as big as the Book of Cain you want to make sure that production of that little gem is in high-haul-ass-gear - to meet the DEMAND that you can pretty much bank on because you have a HOT GAME coming out.
But Blizzard, as it would appear, has dropped the ball on that by apparently NOT working with Inside Edition to make sure they meet or EXCEED their customers expectations. Keep in mind that their (Blizzard's) common theme is "When its done." So when you follow the consumer equation of "Hey gotta get this really cool book coming out - I'll make sure and BUY IT!" And then they don't have the for-sight to print enough copies to meet the demand, they fall back on their common theme "When we print more, it will be done." They SCREWED UP. AGAIN.
Blizz is just as much to blame - because its their IP and the buck stops with them. I tell a client "The store where I buy your stuff from is out of this product right now - wait another month" That customer has EVERY RIGHT to punch me square in the nuts.
Thus **punches Blizz in the nuts** the cycle is complete

Maybe in the future, if Blizzard chooses IE to publish another book, they will damn well have the books ready on the day they announce as the release date. They've seen the outrage that ravenous Blizzard fans can produce. That's what complaining in a case like this can fix. Although I would be wary to ever pre-order something published by IE again.
But like I said, at the very least, Blizzard could communicate a little better with everyone who had their pre-orders delayed. I know they're not publishing it themselves and this delay wasn't caused directly by anything Blizzard did, but this is still their baby and they should be on top of public relations.

Molster - I can't speak for everyone - but I sincerely hope that BLIZZARD EMPLOYEES read these forums on a regular basis. I know that our community reads this "negative wave" you describe and may get down - but I hope to the high heavens that a BLIZZARD EMPLOYEE (Bashiok, cough, cough) reads these forums too. Then maybe, just MAYBE, he or she might be motivated enough by this "negative wave" to go to their superior's office and say "Hey, that Book of Cain thing is becoming an issue - might want to go public with an announcement of some sort"
That's why people speak their minds in this forum. And as the general public reads this, they might to start to get the idea that BLIZZARD HAS A HARD TIME KEEPING UP ON THEIR DEADLINES. So they might move on to something else. And when they do, that MIGHT motivate Blizzard to actually MEET A DEADLINE.

Well keep in mind two things here.
1) Blizzard has no idea who pre-ordered what ATM, IE does. (Im sure blizzard has an idea of course, but you get the idea of what I mean, all the main records of this information the publisher is going to have)
2) This is the main one... IE has been. To be 100% honest, I was shocked at how many updated IE has been putting out about whats going on with these books, and saying what was a rumor (a lot of people wont comment on such things) and then when something did go wrong, they came out right away and told us whats going on.
Thats not something you see a lot of time... I think when people get so mad, and really want something, they over look this stuff.
They have been letting us know whats going on. Amazon im sure had some basic information on this, but from the sound of the first tweet from IE, they obvioulsy where not 100% sure at that moment, thus I dont think amazon wanted to start doing more date switches, but now that we have confirmation from IE, im sure amazon will be getting an update on their site.
But anyway, point being, IE has been talking to us.

Actually, Amazon still has no idea what is going on, according to their reps. "Our system says that it won't be released until the 10th of next month and we haven't heard anything about any copies coming to us" was their statement when asked fifteen minutes ago.

Amazon, does, just because all their reps dont know (which come on.. on a company that big, with that many products (book of cain being rather small compared) I doubt all their "reps" are going to know whats going on.
According to IE, (about an hour ago) Amazon is just getting them on the trucks to their warehouses... its going to be a bit before amazon has it ready to go, and for them to give us new dates. Give them a few hours / a day.
Would you be this calm and complacent about other things, say, you get to the window at burger king and they tell you that you they don't know what's going on with your hamburger, but since you already paid, if you just wait a day or two, you'll be able to find out when you'll get it? Just saying. In this day and age, lack of communication is not a valid excuse. Sure, it's "just a book", but it wasn't "just a book" to the guy who wrote it, and honestly, some of the most historical documents were books. Not saying this is the declaration of independence, but still don't see a point to downplaying it as "just a book". Unfortunately, the lack of release means my book-date with a very cute, and very enjoyable chick has been canceled... since we were planning to meet up at the coffee shop and read it/discuss it. Now we have to move it to tomorrow, and find a new book. Disappointing to a very large degree, when you work 12 hour shifts and only get two days off a week... if you're lucky.

Amazon does not have the book, they tell you.
IE finds theres an issue, they tell us.
IE gives us another updating saying friday at the latest
IE give sus another update, saying its on its way to amazon.
And as soon as Amazon get its in hand, see what they got, Amazon will be telling us.
Your example does not work...if im at a BK...they have the content there... in house.. they are not relaying on other companies... so why would that even happen?

There's absolutely no communication beyond "Hey, we're delaying how long until you get it, even though you paid to have it on release. No idea why, but it's happening." I.e. Knew there was an issue for a while now, they didn't update until people started to complain, and still hasn't told amazon a thing, apparently. Do a quick search on "The legality of selling an item online that you do not physically own".
As far as my example not "Working", actually, Burger King does not butcher their cows. Most food companies order their base product. They purchase them from other companies, such as sysco, so in my example, which does work by the way, Sysco is I.e. and Burger King is Amazon. What you're basically saying is that Burger King shouldn't be faulted because they didn't make sure Sysco would have their hamburgers delivered on time for the store to open, and that Sysco isn't wrong for not shipping the items they were supposed to, and not telling Burger King anything about it, or helping them get the product. If not for the flood of twitter comments to I.E, we probably wouldn't of gotten half the updates we have. To put it bluntly, they saw that people were pissed, and offered a half-hearted attempt to appease them, by saying "oh, we messed up, but we're totally working on it... but we don't know when we'll be able to deliver what was supposed to be delivered. Alternatively, you can buy it from us at a higher cost and get it sooner."
Think about the situation a bit more here. It all comes down to a breach of contract caused by I.E. failing to ensure everything was prepared and ready to go. These books -should- have been shipped out four days before release, at the very least.

I think the point that they are trying to make is that all of this is happening, right now, TODAY - the day of its release.
If you are there, at that moment, your juicy Whopper is supposed to be delivered to your hot chubby hands and the poorly paid window attendant tells you:
- to wait because they don't have Whoppers
- BUT then someone from the back yells that they do have Whoppers
- then someone from the register says they don't have Whoppers, but they are on their way
- And a satisfied customer is walking out the front door with A JUICY WHOPPER in their hands.....
You might get a little pissy. They sell Whoppers at the drive thru window. They told you they will sell you one today. You get to the drive thru, TODAY, and there are no Whoppers. Sad day, wouldn't you agree?

That and they don't seem to realize that anyplace that serves cooked food does rely on another company. A food distributor. It's like a publishing company... FOR FOOD!

PLUS ONE SIR OR MADAM!!!
This is the part that I have been waiting for someone to mention. Its not like Amazon, Barnes and Noble, ANY OTHER retailer looked around their warehouse last night and went "Gee I wonder if we are going to get those Book of Cain things tomorrow - cause, gee, we have to DELIVER them tomorrow to happy customers."
They have known that there was a problem for DAYS. And TODAY when its supposed to come out, we get sketchy information at best from call center reps, Twitter and drawn out theories.

I really had to read your post a few times...I dont even know where to start.
First your BK example.. it does not work. They have the items at the store... if you go there...and they dont... they know it...then... they know before they open.. you dont "pre order your Bigmac a month in advanced... if you do..well...I apologize then and your example is totally logical in this case >_>
Second yes... people were asking them, the publisher, directly on twitter... and they replied yes... I don't get your point here?
People wanted to know what was going on, and they went to the correct source? yes that was my point from the start... complaining on a forum about blizzard was what I was getting mad about at people... People haven an issue with this and going to the publisher via twitter...seems like a smart idea to me.
I think the point that they are trying to make is that all of this is happening, right now, TODAY - the day of its release.
and if you read everything they have said today, this was an issue that came up out of nowhere for them, we don't know the details, if we want to start putting on our tin-foil hats and say they are lieing... thats you call. (and a full nother debate =P)

Yeah pre-ordering something and expecting it to actually ship on the day it's supposed to be released sure is "acting like a baby wanting candy." Totally.

+1 haha

EPIC FAIL.
